Subject: Public; Labour
Disciplinary offences --- Dishonesty — Theft
Time theft — Union filed grievance claiming that employer imposed excessive discipline on grievor by
issuing two-day suspension for theft of time and restricted her from picking up additional shifts until
post suspension — Letter of discipline stated that employer had based decision on number of factors,
including that grievor was dishonest in investigation interview — Union took issue with how
investigation interview was conducted — Discipline was not excessive — It was irregular to interview
someone who was ill without taking steps to ascertain their fitness to participate, but neither union nor
grievor had objected to participating in interview — There was no dispute that grievor had engaged in
repeated acts of dishonesty by engaging in theft of time, which was serious misconduct — Grievance
dismissed
