3. “Disaster management”
• Means a continuous and integrated process of
planning, organising, coordinating and
implementing measures which are necessary
or expedient for—
• (i) prevention of danger or threat of any
disaster;
• (ii) mitigation or reduction of risk of any
disaster or its severity or consequences;

CBC vs Screw Coupling
CBC Screw Coupling
- Higher strength
- Haulage of longer trains
possible
- Limited Strength due to weight
restriction.
- Haulage of longer trains not
possible
Anti-climbing Feature - Overriding of coaches in
collisions and derailment.
- Anti-climbing Arrangement Not
Possible

CBC vs Screw Coupling
CBC Screw Coupling
- Shunting at Higher Speeds
Possible
- Shunting Time Reduced
-Quick detachment due to
automatic Coupling and
uncoupling
Shunting Staff at Risk
Lesser Maintenance due to less no.
of Components
Higher maintenance due to
more no. of Components and
Assemblies
Higher Energy absorption Less Energy absorption

Adaptation of H-Type CBC
• Existing IR coaches have
• Screw Coupling with side buffers
• Separate elements for draft and buff action
• LHB uses Electro-pneumatic couplers for high speed trains
• IR Adopted AAR `H’ Type Tight lock coupler
• Couple-ability with E Type Coupler fitted on IR Locomotives
• Anti-climbing Feature-in built(Vertical interlocking. Couplers)
• Strength Suitable for Operation of 26-coach Train
• Low Cost
• Same element to take the draw and buff load

Air Brake
Features of Air Brake System
For higher speed and achieving required braking distances axle
mounted disc brake with WSP :
• For 160 Kmph- WSP is recommended
Graduated –release brake system-allows graduated application
and graduated release
• Application time: 3-5 SEC
• Release time : 15-20 SEC
13. Description Reduction in B. P.
Pressure
Minimum Brake
Application
0.5 to 0.8Kg/cm2
Service Brake
Application
0.8 to 1.0Kg/cm2
Full Service Brake
Application
1.0 to 1.5Kg/cm2
Emergency Brake
Application
Brake pipe is fully
exhausted and its
pressure reduces to
almost zero.
16. Working Principle
• During brake application, there are
possibilities of skidding/sliding/locking
of individual axle which may cause
damage to wheel sets with increased
braking distance. The WSPs provided in
the system avoids wheel sliding. Speed
sensors, the part of the system detect
the speed of the wheel & sends signal to
the processor unit.
17. Working Principle
• The processor unit evaluates the
received signal from speed sensor of the
vehicle & generates signals enabling the
dump valve/antiskid valves to control
the brake cylinder pressure in case of
any locking/skidding. The control on the
brake cylinder pressure is instantaneous
to the wheel to rail adhesion, keeping
the wheels within their optimum range
of skidding.

EMERGENCY STOPPING DISTANCE
DIP FRAME – TO LOWER CENTER OF
GRAVITY(Stablity)
SHORTER WHEEL BASE – FOR BETTER CURVE

Some Aditional Features
22. Window Units
Three types of windows have been
used in LHB coaches:
•Fixed window - 12 Nos.
•Emergency open-able window- 4 Nos.
•Hopper type window for lavatory - 3
per coach
25. Passenger Emergency Alarm
• 5 passenger emergency alarms
per coach have been provided at
following locations:
–2 in passenger compartment
–3 in lavatories ( In earlier supplied coaches only)
–However in the present version of chair
cars, these alarms are provided only at
two locations and in sleeper coaches,
one in each cabin.
27. FRP ITEMS
• NO. OF FIRE RETARDENT FRP ITEMS
HAVE BEEN USED IN THE INTERIORS
FOR FURNISHING OF LHB COACHES
FRP, AC UNIT TROUGH
28. FRP SIDE WALL PANEL
FRP LAVATORY MODULE
(PVC FOAM SANDWICHED BETWEEN FRP)

30. EARLY FIRE AND SMOKE DETECTION SYSTEM
• Early Fire and Smoke
Detection System provided
• Coach unit will detect
presence of smoke at very
early stage by sampling air
• Will activate audio visual
alarm
• Heat activated sensors for
toilets
• Central Monitoring of all
the coaches
10-Jul-23 30
34. CRASH-WORTHINESS
• Buffer mounting area with a box structure,
which will ensure end to end contact between
the colliding coaches & improve chances of
energy absorption in the coach ends.
• Re-designed for energy absorbing coach ends,
which collapse in a planned manner under any
impact, keeping the passenger area intact.
• “FRP doors” to aid collapse at door-way level.
35. CRASH-WORTHINESS:
• In order to prevent injuries and
causalities due to second collisions of
passengers with objects and fittings
inside the passenger coaches, various
features & Modifications have been
incorporated inside coaches like:
• all fitting’s hooks and corners eliminated
and coated with Poly-Urethane Foam
37. MORE SAFE
• SAFETY OF PASSENGERS IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE,
SO A NUMBER OF PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES HAVE BEEN
ADOPTED IN LHB DESIGN COACHES , LIKE :-
FOUR EMERGENCY EXIT WINDOWS FOR FASTER PASSENGER
EVACUATION DURING EMERGEN-CIES.
WIDER VESTIBULE DESIGN FOR SMOOTH INTER COACH
MAVEMENT.
CONVENIENT TO OPERATE EMERGENCY ALARM PULL
OPERATION AND FIRE RETARDANT FURNISHING.
