 Features of Air Brake System
 For higher speed and achieving required braking distances axle
mounted disc brake with WSP :
• For 160 Kmph- WSP is recommended
 Graduated –release brake system-allows graduated application
and graduated release
• Application time: 3-5 SEC
• Release time : 15-20 SEC

16. Working Principle
• During brake application, there are
possibilities of skidding/sliding/locking
of individual axle which may cause
damage to wheel sets with increased
braking distance. The WSPs provided in
the system avoids wheel sliding. Speed
sensors, the part of the system detect
the speed of the wheel & sends signal to
the processor unit.

17. Working Principle
• The processor unit evaluates the
received signal from speed sensor of the
vehicle & generates signals enabling the
dump valve/antiskid valves to control
the brake cylinder pressure in case of
any locking/skidding. The control on the
brake cylinder pressure is instantaneous
to the wheel to rail adhesion, keeping
the wheels within their optimum range
of skidding.

Three types of windows have been
used in LHB coaches:
•Fixed window - 12 Nos.
•Emergency open-able window- 4 Nos.
•Hopper type window for lavatory - 3
per coach

• 5 passenger emergency alarms
per coach have been provided at
following locations:
–2 in passenger compartment
–3 in lavatories ( In earlier supplied coaches only)
–However in the present version of chair
cars, these alarms are provided only at
two locations and in sleeper coaches,
one in each cabin.

34. CRASH-WORTHINESS
• Buffer mounting area with a box structure,
which will ensure end to end contact between
the colliding coaches & improve chances of
energy absorption in the coach ends.
• Re-designed for energy absorbing coach ends,
which collapse in a planned manner under any
impact, keeping the passenger area intact.
• “FRP doors” to aid collapse at door-way level.

35. CRASH-WORTHINESS:
• In order to prevent injuries and
causalities due to second collisions of
passengers with objects and fittings
inside the passenger coaches, various
features & Modifications have been
incorporated inside coaches like:
• all fitting’s hooks and corners eliminated
and coated with Poly-Urethane Foam

• Modified “CBC draft gear” with crush element
as “honeycomb energy absorber”.
