2. Photographer: Carr Clifton
• Carr spent over 30 years exploring
endangered, wild landscapes that
most people will not know.
Originally from California, he started
photography in 1977 after seeking
inspiration from landscape
photographer, Phillip Hyde. He
studied Commercial Photography at
Colorado, eventually graduating
with a degree.
4. Choose an image…. Describe it
• This is one of my favourite
pictures, it was taken in the
National Park of California. It
is a huge field with two
symmetrical rivers running
through. It looks like it was
taken at sunset or sunrise as
one area of the picture has
sun on it and the other parts
doesn’t. We can also tell this
by the shadows of trees.
5. Composition
• This landscape shot was taken with him standing
at a big height looking over the main subject of
the image. He mainly wanted us to focus on the
rivers and fields rather than the mountains.
6. Techniques used
• He has used quite a high contrast to
exaggerate the green. He has used
rule of thirds, using the mountains for
the top row of the third. He uses the
leading line technique to make us
follow the river.
7. Strengths & Weaknesses
• I think the photo is great as it is taken in a very
picturesque location and the quality of the
picture is brilliant. The only thing I would change
is that the picture is too far out and I think it
could be zoomed in a bit.
