CREATING YOURSELF - CREATING UKRAINE!
Personal and social development program
page 1
It is the word ‘friend’ that we use when turn to each other
at the Ukrainian Leadership Academy. We are all friends who
seek personal and social development, explore the world and
discover ourselves together every day.
We believe that Ukrainian Leadership Academy (ULA) is a
good start for change in Ukraine. The first students from across
the country have become free, real , friendly, wise, creative,
Ukrainian — these are values based on which we live and which
we want to convey to the world.
Our graduates have already entered reputable universities and
we are confident that they will make a significant contribution
firstly in the development of student self-governance, and
afterwards in the development of Ukraine. In September 2015,
quite immature, they took a chance and came to the Ukrainian
Leadership Academy. And today, 17-18-year-old, they think like
adults, globally, debate and can ask meaningful questions and,
what is the most important, they can pursue answers.
We want to tell you how and why this happens to us, and how
we plan to change Ukraine and the world.
Dear Friend,
page 2
What is the Ukrainian
Leadership Academy?
The Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a program of personal and
social development, the main element of which is the 10-month
formational course for secondary school graduates, which is
based on a combination of elements of physical, emotional and
intellectual development based on values.
The students study 6 days a week, one of which is dedicated
to volunteer activities according to the interests. Owing to the
principle of self-government everyone can actively participate
in the development of study programme, choose interesting
speakers, arrange meetings and travels, learn to choose its
own vector of the development in the community.

Academy’s Mission
Influencing the underlying social processes in the Ukrainian
society by forming a generation of young people who take
responsibility for our nation and have the necessary skills
for this.
“ULA is a territory
for those seeking change”
page 6
Why the Ukrainian
Leadership Academy?
The world has changed. Conflicts. Wars.
Uncertainty. Anxiety. Multi-identity,
globalism and erased borders. Excess
power. Weakness of the law. Too much
indifference. Too little sympathy. The
time of great challenges and great
opportunities.
Very seldom in the history of our nation
so many opportunities and responsibilities
were in the hands of one generation.
Only we can decide whether to abandon
the heritage given to us by the previous
generations, or enrich it.
Will we jump at these opportunities? Does
modern education give a chance for young
people to open their leadership potential,
meet global challenges, take advantage of
opportunities to develop themselves, their
country and the world?
The biggest potential and chance of
Ukraine is our youth: generation of free
people, generation that thinks, seeks,
creates and ready to take responsibility.
The Ukrainian Leadership Academy is
a unique platform that brings amazing
young people together. A platform that
teaches and reveals new meanings
for the talented heads and hot hearts.
As a matter of fact, leadership means
responsibility. Leadership means sincere
and active position. Leadership means self-
understanding and harmony with the world.

The Academy Oath
In the time of tumultuous change, in the
world of great opportunities
I,
the Student of Ukrainian Leadership
Academy, a worthy descendant of dignified
ancestors, faithful to the dreams of my
people, to the Universe and Ukraine, to my
friends and my family, with a sincere heart
and clear mind,
HEREBY RESOLVE:
BE FREE!
In the freedom of spirit create yourself and
better world around you.
BE REAL!
Uniform in thought, in word and in act. Be
sincere in intentions and generous in acts.
BE FRIEND!
With the Universe, with humanity and with
Ukraine, with everyone who is beside you,
who is here and today, so that everything
we started did not come to the end!
BE WISE!
Look deeper and see the better, love the life
and choose the good.
BE CREATIVE!
Move forward bravely with your heart wide
open, with a dream look reaching beyond
the horizon of the possible.
BE!!!
Don’t hesitate! Don’t be afraid! Don’t pre-
tend! Be truly and be together!
BECAUSE WE ARE UKRAINE!
People of fighters, land of good, land of
dignity and freedom, our work, our dream,
our fate!
page 10
How we develop
the leadership?
“Life is a totality
of challenges,
to live means to survive”
We achieve this through:
• Development of teamwork – having learned to interact,
we begin to trust, respect and believe.
• Personal example of the leadership, self-actualization and
love of the country.
• Prompting young people to initiative, risk and agility,
encouraging to volunteering and service.
• Teaching based on openness and unconditional love for the
neighbor.
• We discover the world together by studying the experience
of other countries.
• Intensive study of the Ukrainian identity.
• Active study of the geography, nature and traditions of
Ukraine.

For whom the Ukrainian
Leadership Academy is
established?
For the new generation of Ukrainians:
•	 for whom nothing is impossible;
• whose heroic representatives gave their lives during the
Revolution of Dignity in order to defend the right to the
future – their own and the future of next generations;
• who emotionally, sincerely and devotedly are prepared to
sacrifice for eternal values – freedom and dignity;
• who were born free, who will change not only Ukraine but
also the world.
This generation is capable of sympathy,
taking responsibility and creating.
page 16

In-depth study
Global thinking is developed through the study of Ukrainian and
world philosophy, history and literature, religion, political science,
national security, geopolitics. Practical training in communication
and psychology of relationships.
Help to community
During the study, students create social projects including
a project to promote volunteering. They study international
experience of civic initiatives, cooperate actively with civic
organizations from different sectors. The students learn
entrepreneurship, get acquainted with the activities of leading
Ukrainian entrepreneurs, implement joint projects.
Connection with Ukraine
In-depth study of the Ukrainian written language (language and
literature). Monthly research trips throughout Ukraine. There
were two educational expeditions abroad (the EU countries, Israel,
the UK) during the year. Meetings with the personalities that
influence changes in Ukraine and in the world, familiarization
with their projects influences self-identification and creation of a
culture of the citizen of Ukraine.
page 20
Forming a coherent personality
The combination of physical, emotional and intellectual development based on the values
to form the leadership skills.
Body
Physical development is an
integral part of our daily
life. Through personal
challenges, such as half
marathon at the end of the
academic year, we practice
teamwork and physical
endurance. Every morning
we start with sports.
Whether ballroom dancing
or track and field, or yoga,
or martial art – we equally
enjoy the process and
interaction.
Emotions
Own experience creates
the best memories and
solutions. Emotions are
what we experience in
all our activities: sports,
volunteering, academic
program, and especially in
travels. Thanks to travels
throughout Ukraine we get
to know our homeland,
and thanks to travels
throughout the world we
understand what and how
needs to be changed. One
day a week we devote
to volunteering, helping
community, in which we
live.
Intelligence
Knowledge and ability
to use it shape us as
leaders. About 50% of
the Academy’s program
is devoted to promoting
the development of
our intelligence. Wise,
informed and meaningful
decisions of new leaders
change Ukraine. For
10 months the Academy
is visited by more than
60 lecturers and opinion
leaders with lectures.

First Ukrainian
Leadership
Academy in Kyiv
First Ukrainian Leadership Academy admitted students on the
7th of September 2015 in Kyiv. It became clear that this is only
the beginning, and the idea of the Academies will cover the entire
Ukraine.
The first intake included 39 graduates of the 11th grade and
1st year students (17-18 years old) from 9 regions of Ukraine and
Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The participants were selected
from 220 application forms filed by interested young people.
The Academy was opened at the request of the Ukrainian society –
creating the generation of leaders of new type.

”The Academy is people. The most beautiful
people. For all of us this is just the beginning
of a new life. The year spent at the Academy
taught me to set goals and achieve them.
Not to be afraid to live and make mistakes.
Read more books and constantly engage in
self-development. Try something new every
month. Stay positive even when it is very
hard. Perceive every problem as a challenge.
Constantly move forward. Rejoice every
passing day. Thank the people who create and
share with you the happiest and sometimes
the saddest moments. I thank the Academy
because now I feel alive!”.
Yevheniya Komartsova, graduate, Kharkiv

“From birth, we learn the lessons of life. Academy is the
magical place where we learn to make decisions and learn
from their lessons. It is a place where the pomposity of
thought, flight of emotions, memories and treas-ure of
experience are concentrated and created in simple room,
by simple people”.
Rostyslav Kubik graduate, Lviv
“Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a unique place! I am a
student of the first recruitment, and over that 10 months of
the program I have found a lot of friends and like-minded
people, began to look differently at the world and learned not
to be afraid to achieve my dreams. ULA is the most exciting
year, full of the new discoveries”.
Nataliia Voitova, graduate, Kyiv
page 35
“A year at the Academy changed my life forever. Here I have
overcome dozens of challenges, to which I would never agree
in real life. Why in real? Because the Academy is a fairy tale,
where your dreams come true, where you can do whatever
you want, where you always find support, and where you will
find friends for life”.
Mahda Dymyd, graduate, Lviv
“When I went to the Academy, I had a premonition of great
adventure, which, as it turned out, didn’t leave me until
graduation from the Academy. It was a crazy race and escape
simultaneously: race for difficult achievements and escape
from indifference and irresponsibility. I am really happy that
such wonderful people, my new family, appeared in my life.
I know that when the Academy is finished, it will be in my
actions and in my mind for a rather long time”.

What They Say About Us
“Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a dream which turned into a
reality because the like-minded people, those who love this country,
think what will happen in 10-20 years, who will lead this state and
important businesses. Our plans are great, because we see that there
is a great need. I want Ukraine in 20 years to be in TOP-5 countries
around the world, and I think that we have everything to make it
Happen, we just need to create ourselves and create Ukraine”.
Lenna Koszarny,
Founder and CEO of Horizon Capital,
Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress
“IXX and XX century management becomes gradually a thing of the
past. The hierarchy is replaced with the other people management
system – the leadership. It is you, the ones who must lead us
into the future. I wish your leadership was based on true human
values, and only in that case it will be forever”.

We will build a real country, which will be based on the values. And we
will build it by the efforts, faith and optimism of these young men and
women. And I believe that the future President of Ukraine is standing
on this scene too”.

Ukrainian Leadership Academy [booklet]

  • 1. CREATING YOURSELF - CREATING UKRAINE! Personal and social development program
  • 2.
  • 3. page 1 It is the word ‘friend’ that we use when turn to each other at the Ukrainian Leadership Academy. We are all friends who seek personal and social development, explore the world and discover ourselves together every day. We believe that Ukrainian Leadership Academy (ULA) is a good start for change in Ukraine. The first students from across the country have become free, real , friendly, wise, creative, Ukrainian — these are values based on which we live and which we want to convey to the world. Our graduates have already entered reputable universities and we are confident that they will make a significant contribution firstly in the development of student self-governance, and afterwards in the development of Ukraine. In September 2015, quite immature, they took a chance and came to the Ukrainian Leadership Academy. And today, 17-18-year-old, they think like adults, globally, debate and can ask meaningful questions and, what is the most important, they can pursue answers. We want to tell you how and why this happens to us, and how we plan to change Ukraine and the world. Dear Friend,
  • 4. page 2 What is the Ukrainian Leadership Academy? The Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a program of personal and social development, the main element of which is the 10-month formational course for secondary school graduates, which is based on a combination of elements of physical, emotional and intellectual development based on values. The students study 6 days a week, one of which is dedicated to volunteer activities according to the interests. Owing to the principle of self-government everyone can actively participate in the development of study programme, choose interesting speakers, arrange meetings and travels, learn to choose its own vector of the development in the community.
  • 7. page 5 Academy’s Mission Influencing the underlying social processes in the Ukrainian society by forming a generation of young people who take responsibility for our nation and have the necessary skills for this. “ULA is a territory for those seeking change”
  • 8. page 6 Why the Ukrainian Leadership Academy? The world has changed. Conflicts. Wars. Uncertainty. Anxiety. Multi-identity, globalism and erased borders. Excess power. Weakness of the law. Too much indifference. Too little sympathy. The time of great challenges and great opportunities. Very seldom in the history of our nation so many opportunities and responsibilities were in the hands of one generation. Only we can decide whether to abandon the heritage given to us by the previous generations, or enrich it. Will we jump at these opportunities? Does modern education give a chance for young people to open their leadership potential, meet global challenges, take advantage of opportunities to develop themselves, their country and the world? The biggest potential and chance of Ukraine is our youth: generation of free people, generation that thinks, seeks, creates and ready to take responsibility. The Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a unique platform that brings amazing young people together. A platform that teaches and reveals new meanings for the talented heads and hot hearts. As a matter of fact, leadership means responsibility. Leadership means sincere and active position. Leadership means self- understanding and harmony with the world.
  • 11. page 9 The Academy Oath In the time of tumultuous change, in the world of great opportunities I, the Student of Ukrainian Leadership Academy, a worthy descendant of dignified ancestors, faithful to the dreams of my people, to the Universe and Ukraine, to my friends and my family, with a sincere heart and clear mind, HEREBY RESOLVE: BE FREE! In the freedom of spirit create yourself and better world around you. BE REAL! Uniform in thought, in word and in act. Be sincere in intentions and generous in acts. BE FRIEND! With the Universe, with humanity and with Ukraine, with everyone who is beside you, who is here and today, so that everything we started did not come to the end! BE WISE! Look deeper and see the better, love the life and choose the good. BE CREATIVE! Move forward bravely with your heart wide open, with a dream look reaching beyond the horizon of the possible. BE!!! Don’t hesitate! Don’t be afraid! Don’t pre- tend! Be truly and be together! BECAUSE WE ARE UKRAINE! People of fighters, land of good, land of dignity and freedom, our work, our dream, our fate!
  • 12. page 10 How we develop the leadership? “Life is a totality of challenges, to live means to survive” We achieve this through: • Development of teamwork – having learned to interact, we begin to trust, respect and believe. • Personal example of the leadership, self-actualization and love of the country. • Prompting young people to initiative, risk and agility, encouraging to volunteering and service. • Teaching based on openness and unconditional love for the neighbor. • We discover the world together by studying the experience of other countries. • Intensive study of the Ukrainian identity. • Active study of the geography, nature and traditions of Ukraine.
  • 17. page 15 For whom the Ukrainian Leadership Academy is established? For the new generation of Ukrainians: • for whom nothing is impossible; • whose heroic representatives gave their lives during the Revolution of Dignity in order to defend the right to the future – their own and the future of next generations; • who emotionally, sincerely and devotedly are prepared to sacrifice for eternal values – freedom and dignity; • who were born free, who will change not only Ukraine but also the world. This generation is capable of sympathy, taking responsibility and creating.
  • 18. page 16 The Academy is: Self-development Lessons in applied logic, mathematics, and financial management. Learning the foreign languages (basic language is English), elements of journalism and public speaking. Learning about music and music practice, artistic groups (singing, painting, architecture and photography). Sports training and physical labor. All of this forms a personality. Teamwork Team building and learning the basics of project management. Work under conditions of mutual support and fair criticism. Participation in the organization of everyday life gives a sense of individual and mutual responsibility.
  • 21. page 19 In-depth study Global thinking is developed through the study of Ukrainian and world philosophy, history and literature, religion, political science, national security, geopolitics. Practical training in communication and psychology of relationships. Help to community During the study, students create social projects including a project to promote volunteering. They study international experience of civic initiatives, cooperate actively with civic organizations from different sectors. The students learn entrepreneurship, get acquainted with the activities of leading Ukrainian entrepreneurs, implement joint projects. Connection with Ukraine In-depth study of the Ukrainian written language (language and literature). Monthly research trips throughout Ukraine. There were two educational expeditions abroad (the EU countries, Israel, the UK) during the year. Meetings with the personalities that influence changes in Ukraine and in the world, familiarization with their projects influences self-identification and creation of a culture of the citizen of Ukraine.
  • 22. page 20 Forming a coherent personality The combination of physical, emotional and intellectual development based on the values to form the leadership skills. Body Physical development is an integral part of our daily life. Through personal challenges, such as half marathon at the end of the academic year, we practice teamwork and physical endurance. Every morning we start with sports. Whether ballroom dancing or track and field, or yoga, or martial art – we equally enjoy the process and interaction. Emotions Own experience creates the best memories and solutions. Emotions are what we experience in all our activities: sports, volunteering, academic program, and especially in travels. Thanks to travels throughout Ukraine we get to know our homeland, and thanks to travels throughout the world we understand what and how needs to be changed. One day a week we devote to volunteering, helping community, in which we live. Intelligence Knowledge and ability to use it shape us as leaders. About 50% of the Academy’s program is devoted to promoting the development of our intelligence. Wise, informed and meaningful decisions of new leaders change Ukraine. For 10 months the Academy is visited by more than 60 lecturers and opinion leaders with lectures.

Not to be afraid to live and make mistakes. Read more books and constantly engage in self-development. Try something new every month. Stay positive even when it is very hard. Perceive every problem as a challenge. Constantly move forward. Rejoice every passing day. Thank the people who create and share with you the happiest and sometimes the saddest moments. Rostyslav Kubik graduate, Lviv “Ukrainian Leadership Academy is a unique place! I am a student of the first recruitment, and over that 10 months of the program I have found a lot of friends and like-minded people, began to look differently at the world and learned not to be afraid to achieve my dreams. Mahda Dymyd, graduate, Lviv “When I went to the Academy, I had a premonition of great adventure, which, as it turned out, didn’t leave me until graduation from the Academy. It was a crazy race and escape simultaneously: race for difficult achievements and escape from indifference and irresponsibility. I am really happy that such wonderful people, my new family, appeared in my life. I know that when the Academy is finished, it will be in my actions and in my mind for a rather long time”.
