RE: Robert M Berg
President, Foster Design Build
To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to write a very strong letter of recommendations for Robert Berg, President
of Foster Design Build, who you are considering for your project.
Bob was the principle contractor and supervisor of our recent renovation of a 135-year-old
Victorian home in Historic Kenwood. The home at the time we acquired it was in
condemnable condition and included structurally unsafe floors, extraordinary water damage,
animal infestations, and completely nonfunctioning electrical and plumbing services. We
later learned that there had been no gas service or heat to the project in 10 years. The coach
house in the back of the lot was overrun with weeds and physically leaning against the
neighbor’s coach house and was structurally unsound.
This was an extraordinarily complex project, and one which required the detailed planning
and execution which would meet the highest standards not only to satisfy me and my wife as
we envisioned our dream home, but to satisfy the rigid landmark requirements and
regulations for the City of Chicago.
Bob was quite simply extraordinary in his approach to this project. He was extremely well
organized, obviously experienced with complex tasks and challenges, and one of the most
capable professionals with whom I have worked in the many different venues and industries
across my spectrum of medicine and science and certainly in home development and
building.
Bob is honest as the day is long, sincere in his desire to produce a product that is not only to
the highest standards and something with which his clients will be most satisfied, but also
something that he can be individually proud of as well. It is clear that he takes his work very
seriously; he holds his own reputation and integrity at the highest level, and he has earned
and deserves the respect of the different trades people who are contracted to contribute to the
project. We personally inspected previous work that he had completed before hiring him and
were extremely impressed, but watching him in action was even more gratifying for us and
our selection to work with him.
2. Rebuilding a historic home of this complexity had many unexpected challenges even for
someone as experienced as Bob, but he was never phased by the latest discovery, and only
made simple adjustments to our schedule and to the work plan which made it all look much
easier than I know it was.
Personally, Bob is clearly an individual with high moral character and it shows in all of his
interactions. I cannot imagine you identifying an individual with the amount of dedication
and detail-attention as Bob. It was very common for trades people and even our strict no
nonsense landmark inspectors to note that it was the cleanest job site they had ever seen. It
quite simply was extraordinary and we could not be happier with the quality of work.
I would be delighted to speak to you if it will help with your decision, but cannot emphasize
enough how satisfied you will be.
Sincerely,
David T. Rubin, MD
