2. Typography/Colours
Masthead is in capital letters, white and bold; quite neutral, suggesting
the magazine is for both boys and girls. “We predict a riot” has a distorted
effect, in capital letters and bold; very loud, in-your-face which links to the
heavy rock genre. There is also another little headline at the bottom right corner
of the cover; “brits on the rampage”. It is in yellow and capital letters with a
messy font; links to carelessness, rebellion, punk = Rock. The whole cover
generally has dull, dark colours so everything blends in and gives it a messy
feeling which relates to rock.
Layout/Images
Layout is very cluttered and messy, a lot is going on. There are neat
shortlists of rock bands on the left and right side of the cover with the Masthead
also neatly placed at the top centre of the cover. The image is what gives the
cover its cluttered feeling; members of a rock band pose together screaming and
shouting.
Mise-en-scene
In the central image, the members of the rock band each have props such
as; a baseball bat, a brick, megaphone, broken glass bottle, etc. all of which
represent loudness, aggressiveness and violence which can all link back to the
rock genre. The members are wearing punkish costumes and hoodies which
could represent the rebellious nature of rock.
