Question
To what effect have the Christchurch earthquakes had on the
Redcliff’s community local facilities, with particular reference
to the local library and kindergarten and how can this be
qualified and quantified?
Answer
Redcliffs has suffered severe physical damage, directly
impacting on all aspects of the community.
Displacement, community uncertainty, destruction of
buildings and land and severe disruption to businesses,
services and residents has resulted.
The aim of our research was to:
•Establish a current population base (demographics)
•Gain a sense of community well-being
•Define business confidence
•Provide data sets to assist the recovery trajectory

Impacts of the Canterbury
Earthquakes
• Devastating loss of life, business,
land and community wellbeing
following the Canterbury
Earthquakes.
Loss
• Significant loss of life, wellbeing
and residential properties.
Uncertainty
• Many residents still waiting to hear
about property status from EQC.
Land Zoning
• Land zoning process
Green zone = Repairs can proceed.
Red zone = Uninhabitable
Orange zone = Yet to be determined

locations are proving fruitful.
