Server 2008.This powerful architecture
enables PRIME BI to be used for analysis
and reporting on One and across multiple
systems.
This combination of bespoke One
components and SQL Server delivers an
out-of-the box solution for analysing
and reporting on One, whilst providing
a single destination for all management
information, regardless of the source.
PRIME BI is available to local authorities as
a complete business intelligence solution,
enabling you to access a greater depth of
knowledge using sophisticated reporting
techniques. It is now also available as
individual components for added flexibility
and convenience.
The three components of PRIME BI are:
Report Model
Cubes
Portal
These can be used separately or combined
in any way, according to individual need,
with the option to upgrade to a full PRIME
BI solution when required.

a Report Model Explorer that can be used
to see the underlying tables, fields, entities
and SQL scripts that make up the Report
Model. This ability to drill down from a
structured functional view of One to the
SQL query level, enables report writers
to quickly and easily access the inner
workings of the One database.
PRIME Report Model

6. PRIME Cubes
Quick and easy analysis of complex data
6
Cubes are essentially a database where the
information has already been extracted,
transformed and made available in a
format for analysis. Having data available
in this way means report writers can easily
access multiple levels of data and focus
on providing the information required
by management to allow them to make
informed decisions.
The use of pre-aggregated data supports
the analysis of data from a number of
sources that are not directly linked, for
example the number of children with
persistently poor attendance records
who also have an SEN Statement. It also
supports the analysis of a range of data
around attainment, and groups this by a
range of school and gender information.
It would typically have been complex and
time consuming, requiring the writing
of multiple reports to analyse this data.
Cubes can easily analyse and aggregate
this data, enabling you to decide which
items of data you wish to ‘slice and
dice’ for your particular needs, such as
attainment data linked with involvements.
PRIME Cubes allow you to perform more sophisticated analyses quickly
and efficiently. Databases like One store information for transactional
purposes, such as adding and updating records.Analysing data held in this
way can be difficult, especially when looking at areas such as Attendance
and Exclusions, where large amounts of information are stored on
individual students.Trying to analyse this data at a school and authority
level requires complex reports just to extract the data into a format that
can be used for reporting.
Key benefits
Quick and easy access to analytical
data reduces the time required to
produce complex reports
Reduces the impact of complex report
processing on the One database
Eliminates the need to write
multiple reports
Provides a consistent source of
data through the use of pre-defined
transformation rules
Data is structured by functions
providing a clear link between business
and data

8. PRIME Portal
Centralised management information
8
Reports are organised into portfolios,
enabling users or administrators to
deliver reports to the desktop in logical
groups. Portfolios can be shared with
other users, for example, a portfolio
containing School Information Pack data
can be shared with all schools, giving
them key up-to-date information on
the authority’s view of their schools.
In addition, the Portal includes a
parameter that automatically shows
the report relative to the user’s base,
allowing report writers to write one
report that can be used by many.
Reports can be presented in tabular or
graphical format, creating dashboards
that supply managers with the key
information in the clear format they need
to make informed business decisions.
The PRIME Portal also provides extensive
management features including user,
group and report management.
The PRIME Portal provides management and service teams with tailored
management information through a secure centralised method for
distributing and presenting management reports. As only a browser is
required, it is ideal for distributing reports from One and other systems
to users who would not usually have access to this information.
Key benefits
Saves time and improves efficiency,
eliminating the need for re-writing
reports
Users and administrators can create
portfolios to organise and share reports
Allows LAs to push reports to external
groups such as schools
Simple for end-users, consistent secure
interface across the LA
Displays reports from multiple
data sources
Displays both tabular and graphical
reports with export and printing
