Raising a widow's son – (Luke 7:11-17)
“The dead mansat up and beganto talk, andJesus gave himback to his mother”( Luke 7:15).
Jesustraveledtothe townof Nainwithhisdisciplesandalarge crowdof followers.Astheyapproached
the towngate, the deadchildof a widow wasbeingcarriedout.AfterJesussaw the widow,he
miraculouslybroughtthe deadchildbacktolife andgave himback to hismother.
As explainedinthe Gospel of Luke:
“Soonafterward,Jesus went to a town called Nain,andhisdisciplesanda large crowd went along
with him.As he approachedthe towngate, a dead person was beingcarried out - the onlyson of his
mother, andshe was a widow.And a large crowd from the town was withher. Whenthe Lord saw
her, his heart went out to her andhe said,"Don'tcry."
“Then he went up and touchedthe bier they were carryinghim on,and the bearers stood still.He said,
"Youngman,I say to you,get up!" The dead man satup and beganto talk, and Jesusgave him back to
hismother”.
“They were all filledwithawe andpraisedGod."A great prophet has appearedamongus," they said.
"Godhascome to help hispeople." This news aboutJesus spread throughoutJudeaand the
surroundingcountry”.(Luke7:11-17).
Healing a witheredhand – Mark 3:5
“He looked aroundat them in anger and,deeply distressedat their stubbornhearts, saidto the man,
“Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and hishandwas completelyrestored”(Mark3:5).
While Jesuswasina Synagogue,he sawa man witha deformedhandandmiraculouslyhealedhim.The
eventwaswitnessedbyopponentsof Jesuswhoplottedtohave Jesuskilled.
As explainedinthe Gospel of Mark:
“Anothertime Jesus went into the synagogue,anda man witha shriveled handwas there. Some of
them were lookingfora reason to accuse Jesus, sothey watched himcloselyto see ifhe wouldheal
himon the Sabbath. Jesussaidto the manwith the shriveled hand,"Standupin front of everyone."
Then Jesus asked them, "Whichislawful onthe Sabbath:to do good or to do evil,to save life or to
kill?" But they remained silent.Helooked aroundat them in anger and,deeply distressedat their
2. stubbornhearts, saidto the man,"Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and hishandwas
completelyrestored. Then the Pharisees went out andbegan to plotwith the Herodians howthey
mightkill Jesus”- (Mark 3:1-6).
