I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Tom Cravens. I was pleased to have been able to work with Tom
for approximately 10 years as a discharge planner/social worker at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Tom worked part time in
the hospital setting and also in the Hospice program. Tom is a very caring person who enjoyed interaction with patients
and families on a daily basis and was often involved in some very complicated situations. Problem solving was a key
element in what our job required when trying to come up with resources and options for patients. Tom seemed to have
a knack at finding resources that no one else was aware existed. He often went out of his way to check this out for
patients. We had a wide range of patients to work with that required efficient and timely resolution with the issues at
hand. Lots of multitasking was required and Tom worked hard to keep up with the very fast pace of the work load.
I think Tom has many skills to offer in a Social Work position. One of his strong points is his sensitivity with people going
through rough times. He is eager to be supportive in a nonjudgmental manner. I think he has a good sense of
professional boundaries and was always a strong advocate for the organization that he represents. When the
department made the change over to electronic record keeping Tom was helpful to set up the template and the move
forward to update other areas that needed change. Therefore I think he is a forward thinking person.
Tom has a variety of work experiences to his credit. He has close family ties and maintains strong personal ethics. I
think he is a man of high integrity.
