This document summarizes previous work on using social signals to enhance search rankings. It discusses papers that evaluated the impact of individual and grouped signals, signals freshness and resource age, and signals diversity and quality. The previous work conducted experiments on the INEX Social Book Search and IMDb datasets. The document also introduces research questions on how users use emotional social reactions to interact with resources and the impact of Facebook reactions on information retrieval.
