3. MARKET WRAP
Nifty and Sensex were closed red; lost 0.54%, 0.39% resp. this week.
Existing Home Sales 5.04M and US Unemployment Claims at 361K.
US & Euro markets were mixed; Asian markets too were also mixed last week.
Indian markets ended down on Friday due to profit booking, this week Sensex and Nifty
were red, slipping marginally around by 0.5% each. Major sectors which were down like
Realty, Oil & Gas. Top looser were HDIL (down 7.6%) Unitech (down 2.1%), Cairn India
(down 3.9%).Technically Nifty may expected to drop from this point or a short term
range bound movement this week; Nifty this week may range 6100-5630.
It's been an eventful week outside the market this week. The Reserve bank of India in
its mid-quarter review of monetary policy kept policy rates unchanged on Tuesday. The
cash reserve ratio of scheduled banks unchanged at 4.25 per cent of their net demand
and time liabilities; and keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility
unchanged at 8.0 per cent and the Bank Rate at 9.0 per cent. On the political front
Narendra Modi has won the Gujarat assembly elections for the third time in a row.
The S&P 500 has positive this week’s on Thursday after a Republican proposal for
averting the "fiscal cliff" failed to pass, dissipating hopes that a deal would be reached
soon in Washington. The major indices showed this week a consolidate trend, with the
Dow jones raised nearly by 1.07 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained
58.23 pts or 1.95 percent to end at 3050.39.The rupee has depreciated from 54.04 to
55.15. The Euro & GBP crosses with Indian rupee today has tested an all time high of
73.05 & 89.70 resp.IMF for an additional aid of 31.1bn euro’s with conditions attached.
