3. According to the legend, the village of Chiojdu was established simultaneously with
the village of Starchiojd, by the sons of a tatar (after other sources, Transylvanian Romanian)
sitting here long ago. In the area of the commune there were established during the centuries
Romanian Transylvanians from Sita Buzaului, which were organized in mosque of sitilesti, later
named after (after a representative of them became a vicar of Rome Spătărească estate in
Bucharest Cantacuzino backrest) .
The commune made temporarily at the beginning of the 19th century part of the former
county of Săcuieni. At the end of the 19th century, the commune was called Chiojdu of Bâsca,
being part of Buzău in Buzău County, and it consisted of the villages of Bâsca, Bogzeni, Cătăşu,
Chiojdu, Plescioara, Poieniţele de Jos and Poieniţele de Sus, having a total of 2980 inhabitants
living in 647 cases. There were 7 water mills, a beer, a cradle, two churches, three churches and
two schools, attended by 85 pupils.
4. The Socec Yearbook of 1925 records it in the same network in Buzau, having the
name of Chiojdu and 4450 inhabitants in the villages of Bâsca, Bogzeni, Cătăşu, Chiojdu,
Lera, Plescioara and Poieniţele.
In 1950, it was included in the Cislau district of the Buzau region and then (after
1952) in the Ploiesti region. In 1968, the village became a part of Buzau County and it
became current after the village of Bogzeni was included in the village of Bâsca Chiojdului.
According to the 2011 census, Chiojdu's population amounts to 3,509 inhabitants,
down from the previous census of 2002 when there were 3,842 inhabitants. [1] Most of the
inhabitants are Romanian (98.2%). For 1.8% of the population, ethnicity is unknown. From
a confessional point of view, most of the inhabitants are Orthodox (94.96%), with a Seventh-
day Adventist minority (3.02%). For 1.8% of the population, confessional membership is
unknown.
