Fantasy gardens, also known as Fantasy Garden World used to be an amusement park in Richmond. Fantasy Gardens was named after the gardens that surrounded a reconstruction of buildings in the Middle Ages.
In 1984 Bill Vander Zalm and his wife bought Fantasy Gardens, a 8 hectare lot for 1.7million dollars, before he was the premier of BC. A questionable business decision.
Later after Bill Vander Zalm became premier of BC he made contact with the Tan Yu, a company from Taiwan who needed to build a bank in Canada. Usually there is hundreds of policies and forms you have to pass to start a new bank. Except the Tan Yu where able to surpass all of these forms. The Tan Yu then decided to buy the fantasy gardens for a whopping 16 million dollars. Bill Vander Zalm was basically paid a 14.3 million dollar bribe by the Tan Yu.
He was later exposed by his real estate agent Faye Leung, who recorded all of their business conversations since the day she met him. She said "I recorded the conversations because I could tell he was a bad person."
Bill was tried in the Supreme Court and was forced to resign.
