1. AmeriCorps Anniversary 20th By the Numbers
• 900,000: Number of individuals who have joined AmeriCorps since Sept. 12, 1994.
• 1.2 billion: Total number of hours served by AmeriCorps members.
• $2.7 billion: Total amount of education scholarships earned by AmeriCorps
members since 1994.
• 4: Number of Presidents that commemorated the anniversary.
• 95: Number of AmeriCorps pledge ceremonies across the country in all 50 states
and territories.
• 72,000: Page views received in a 12- hour period on AmeriCorps.gov.
Trending on Social Media
Starting at 8:20am on Friday “AmeriCorps” and #AmeriCorps20 were trending for
15 hours on Facebook and Twitter.
Thunderclap
AmeriCorps was trending on Twitter and Facebook, thanks to a
ThunderClap campaign that reached 52 million users on
Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. It was the 4th largest
Thunderclap in history, and the largest in government history.
2. Twitter
On September 12, more than 19,000 tweets used the hashtag
#AmeriCorps20. By midnight we saw a 671% increase in user
engagement on retweets with over 153,000 Twitter users
(including Bette Midler).
Employers of National Service
At the White House, President Obama announced the
Employers of National Service. The initiative recognizes
the valuable skills AmeriCorps members and Peace
Corps volunteers bring to the workplace. The Facebook
graphic reached of 165,824 users.
White House Social Media Engagement
The White House allowed AmeriCorps to
take over their Instagram account.
By the end of the day photos on
@WhiteHouse and @MichelleObama
reached 1.6 million followers and received
more than 50,000 “hearts/likes”.
