Domestic Violence is a major concern in today’s society. Nearly half of all
women and men in the United States have experienced psychological
aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. We witness domestic violence
through an array of different social mediums heightened by the media’s public
display. Throughout the history of domestic violence reporters have shaped our
judgment on how we view victims and the accused.
In recent news, the NFL has caught the heat heavily on a number of issues so far
this season. To make matters worst, the Ray Rice scandal has brought even
more negative attention to the NFL in terms of domestic violence. The former
Baltimore Ravens running back is suspended indefinitely after being caught on
camera beating his wife, Janay Palmer, in an elevator. This coming Wednesday
NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, will share new views on a no tolerance about
domestic violence and social responsibility during the owner’s meeting, which will
take place at the Conrad Hotel on the Westside of Manhattan in NYC. Twitter has
flooded with the hashtags #WhyIStayed and #WhyILeft bringing greater
awareness to the cause.

2. Domestic Violence can easily turn into a matter of life or death, especially when a
person is faced with the pressures of the public. In 1994 the world watched as
NFL star and actor, OJ Simpson, was acquitted for the murder of ex­wife, Nicole
Simpson, and waiter, Ronald Lyle Goldman. This domestic violence case was
said to be the most publicized criminal trials of American history spanning from
January 24, 1995 to October 3, 1995.
In support of domestic violence month social awareness for the cause is growing
each day. Today marks The Day of Unity first observed in October 1981, which
aims to shed light on the cause. Community outreach and activities bring
awareness to the cause that has grown gradually overtime! On November 1,
2014 the CosmoGirls Glam Event “Fashion is my Passion” will be held at the
Dumbo loft in Brooklyn, New York. This event is a fashion show and mixer that
will donate funds to well deserving organizations including the Center Against
Domestic Violence. This fun filled event will host models, musical talent,
