1. Ms. Taurus L. Pyles
I have over 8 years of experience teaching physical education at the elementary, middle,
and high school levels. I began my career in Birmingham, AL teaching K-5 grade PE at
Avondale Elementary and Lewis Elementary Schools. I later moved to the Glenwood Inc. where
I became a Behavioral Teacher in 2009- 2013. After that I took a Physical Education job at
Spring Valley School (Dyslexia) until I moved to Houston, TX in October of 2015. My
educational background includes having a B.S. degree (Tennessee State University) and a M.Ed.
degree (Northcentral University) in my specialty area of Education with a specialization in
coaching.
As a physical educator, my goal is to equip each of my students with a wide range of
movement skills coupled with a love of being physically active. I believe that lasting skill
learning in physical education needs to consist of success-oriented experiences that literally leave
children craving for more. My teaching style and curriculum design reflect this philosophy of
using learning activities that are both skill based and fun.
I also love coaching. Coaching is a passion of mine. I have spent years coaching different
sports. In 2001, I started out coaching children (ages 4-8; 9-11, 12-14, and 16 and under) at a
recreational center in Birmingham, Al. the smaller group was the start of our Pee Wee basketball
league. We managed to bring in over 45/50 boys and girls and the league is still growing stronger
each year. I have also coached at the high school level. I coached high school girls’ basketball
(2003-2015) and high school girls’ softball (2014-2015). I took an AAU position of coaching a
boys basketball team (16 and under and 18 and under). I train athletes in different sports
(basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, football, and track and field). In Birmingham, Al I
have organized a skill camp where female athletes who weren’t selected for scholarships can
come out and perform for college coaches around our area. So far in 3 years, I have had a total of
15/17 girls receive scholarship to play on the next level.
