1. Lighting Analysis.
Whiz Khalifa – Roll up.
In this mid shot both natural and artificial lighting is used to enhance the
features of the artist. There is natural lighting because from the shot the viewer
is able to tell that this scene was shot on a sunny day. Also there is artificial
lighting that is coming from behind and underneath the camera that leaves a
glare in the shot. The artificial lighting also helps to emphasise the artist face.
These types of shots are used a lot in this music video because of the artist being
new to the music industry. This supports Andrew Goodwins theory by the
director using these shots to familiarise the general public with the artist face.
In this establishing shot natural lighting is used. This shot is effective because of
the scenery. In this shot is appears to the viewer that the sun is going down, this
is why the viewer sees two different shades of blue in the sky. This could
represent calm and tranquility. This could be an indicator of how the characters
in the shot feel. The natural lighting is a form of background lighting because it is
behind the characters.
Hold you down – Dj Khaled ft Chris Brown, August Alsina, Future and Jeremih
2. In this wide shot only artificial lighting is used. Key lighting is used in order to
highlight the character and her seductive positioning on the sofa. This is used to
emphasise the characters body. Also red background lighting is used to set the
scene of the frame. The colour red is used to convey the theme of love and lust
this complements the position of the character.
Rolling in the deep – Adele
In this frame artificial high key lighting is used to point out the character holding
the clapperboard. The high key lighting leaves an unwanted glare. The high key
lighting also makes the back dropping appear dark blue.
Fix you – Coldplay
In this mid shot back lighting is used that leaves a shadow on the wall. This gives
a cold and gloomy effect to the shot.
