Purpose of Job
This position's objective is the formulation of purchasing policies and standards for the company. The
incumbent is responsible for establishing purchasing criteria for Silliker Laboratories Group, Inc. and its
subsidiaries.
Job Duties
1. Formulate, implement and maintain purchasing policies and procedures.
2. Develop tracking systems to monitor purchasing decisions throughout the organization.
3. Seek, develop and maintain reliable sources of media, chemicals, lab and office supplies,
equipment, service agreements and other miscellaneous items.
4. Analyze and negotiate purchase contracts with selected vendors.
5. Work with all operating departments to ensure proper utilization of the purchasing system.
6. Work with related departments such as operations and finance to insure most efficient utilization
of purchasing system.
7. Maintain risk management policy to insure proper documents are obtained from suppliers.
8. Support corporate quality and improvement process (TQM).
9. Perform other related duties as needed.

Job Title: Purchasing Analyst
Knowledge & Skill
This position requires a thorough knowledge of purchasing procedures to determine the best methods
of selecting appropriate vendors, negotiating price and procuring items needed. Certification of
Purchasing Management is preferred. General level of business knowledge is necessary to negotiate
with vendors. A general knowledge of personal computer usage is necessary to maintain information
accurately. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary to deal with vendors
and other internal departments.
Job Complexity
This position has long-term objectives that are set by the incumbent to work toward in daily purchasing
activity. Purchasing activity is reviewed on a monthly basis through various reports completed for the
Laboratory Director and senior management.
Decision Making or Recommendations
Decisions are made based on research and past experience. Recommendations are made to the Lab
Director or senior management for further proceedings. Incumbent needs to determine the best method
of purchasing services and or supplies used by the laboratories or the corporate group. This decision
will directly effect Silliker's relationship with that vendor in the future and the rapport between the
purchasing analyst and other laboratories.
Accountability
This position receives general supervision from the V.P. of Finance & Administration. The incumbent
refers to reference manuals and past purchasing procedures to determine the best course of action to
take.

Job Title: Purchasing Analyst
Relationships
The incumbent has frequent contact with vendors in order to purchase supplies and to negotiate
contracts. This position requires regular contact with Laboratory Management, Supervisors and Group
department heads to resolve various problems.
Work Environment
The environment is an administrative office with proper lighting and temperature. Manual dexterity is
necessary to manipulate a keyboard. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a sitting position.
