Visitor Induction
1. Introduction
• Damar Industries operates a large multi-hazard manufacturing site at
Eastgate Business Park Rotorua. Stored on site can be up to:
65 tonnes of LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas)
370,000 litres of bulk flammable liquids
1.4 million litres water capacity of aerosols, and
2.2 million litres of flammable liquid finished goods in five
warehouses.
• There could also be small volumes of hazard class 5.1 (Oxidizer) and larger
volumes of hazard class 6.1 (toxic), 8 (Corrosive) and 9 (Ecotoxic)
• These substances are used to manufacture a variety of paints, aerosols,
cleaning products and liquid fill products for storage and distribution
throughout New Zealand and overseas export markets
• The volumes in use and stored on site, create Hazardous Atmosphere Zones
and Controlled Zones in all production and storage areas.
2. Legislative requirements
In regards to the above, Damar Industries Ltd is obliged by Health and Safety, MHF and HSNO legislation to
ensure that all persons (workers, contractors and visitors) are informed of the hazards that could be
encountered when entering the plant, and the controls necessary to manage these risks

3. Visitor Registration
• All visitors must report to Reception in the Administration Block when arriving and departing Damar
Industries Ltd site
• All visitors must:
Sign onto the Visitor Register
Read the Ministry of Primary Industries Transitional Facility notice pertaining to sea freight containers
posted in the sign in register, and acknowledge acceptance by ticking the indicated column of the Sign
In Register
• You must sign in and out every time, even if you’re temporarily leaving site as this register becomes our fire
roll for other persons on our site in the event of an emergency
• All visitors are required to wear an identification tag
• While on site, visitors are required to be accompanied by a Damar Industries Ltd staff member and may not
undertake any work or operate any equipment
• If you suffer from respiratory problems please make this clear to your host; they will ensure you are not
exposed to any material that may affect you during the course of your visit
5. 4. Prohibited Items in Operational Areas
In addition, all visitors entering operational areas must ensure long hair is tied back and any hoods are down.
5. Facilities
Toilets are located;
In the Administration Block on the left hand side half way down the main corridor
In the Main Building just inside the entrance door to the left, and in the corridor between the Liquid
Fill and Factory areas
Tea/Coffee making facilities;
There is a kitchenette located just before the toilets in the administration building
The main staff lunch room is inside the entrance door to the right in the main building
No Mobile Phones
Please leave mobile phones and other
electronic/electrical devices in your vehicle or at
reception (iPads, mobile radios, cameras etc)
No Ignition Sources
Please leave cigarette lighters and matches in your
vehicle
No Smoking
Smoking is not permitted anywhere on site
other than in the designated smoking area
beside the Staff Lunch Room
No Closed Bags or Backpacks
Please leave all bags or backpacks in your vehicle

6. Evacuation Procedure
• If the alarm sounds (siren), your Damar guide will assist you to the nearest exit and accompany you to the
Emergency Assembly area at our evacuation point
• Evacuation point is across the road in the Damar Staff/Visitor car park
• Do not drive your vehicle offsite
• Once at the Emergency Assembly Area, report to the Administration Warden and ensure your name is
checked off
• Do not leave the assembly area
• Do not smoke at the assembly area
• Do not re-enter the site or building until cleared to do so by the Head Warden
NOTE: All Security Gates will automatically open

8. 8. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
All visitors entering our production areas MUST wear:
• High Visibility Clothing
Cotton or Anti-static Vest
Cotton Overalls
• Eye Protection
Safety Glasses
Visitors who wear prescription glasses should wear Safety Over-glasses
• Protective Footwear
Enclosed footwear (sturdy)
Safety Footwear
In addition, those visitors entering the Aerosol Hall MUST wear:
• Hearing Protection
Ear buds are provided a the entrance to the Aerosol Hall
Ear muffs
NOTE: These will be provided if you do not have your own

9. 9. Site Hazards
10. Reporting Incidents, Hazards and Near Miss events
• All Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses must be reported to your Site Contact – this includes property
damage.
• The Incident / Near Miss must be recorded into our Vault system before you leave site – speak to your site
contact about entering.
• You may be required to participate in an Incident Investigation
• Report all Hazards to your site contact and where possible, work to put controls in place for any hazards
identified
• Take the initiative – We welcome people who are working towards a safer site for everyone!
