Executive Summary:
SMART SCHOOLS
To bring major developments in the education system, Pakistan has set the MDGs Millennium
Development Goals with EFA (Education For All) initiative, in which they have set a deadline of
2015 to achieve quality Education For All. Keeping in mind this goal, the idea of establishment
of Smart Schools was adopted. A chain of Smart Schools has been launched in Pakistan recently
with the goal of promoting technology based education system at the macro level. This is a
project of The City School. Under TSS The Smart School project, franchises of the new
technology based schools have been launched in numerous cities of the country including
Mardan, Malakand and Quetta. The learning methodology is ICT based and provides a web
portal to have a centralized curriculum in all schools. They have also introduced smartboard
technology that uses touch screens as in mobiles and tablets. Even in the areas where IT usage
is not that common, TSS provides complete ICT Labs and trained staff. These schools will
provide high quality, ICT based education to it’s students with affordable fee structure. This is
expected to be a major leap in achieving high quality education in Pakistan with the
contribution of the private sector. This initiative will serve as a model for future developments
in education
The Concept of “Smart Classrooms”
The integration of ICT in the classroom will give rise to “Smart Classrooms” where the latest
technology will make learning a lot more effective and fun. The system will be highly interactive
and new strategies of learning will be implemented so that the students learn more effectively.
This will add a creative component in the learning process which will train the students to think
innovatively with lesser limits and more openness to experience new ways of exploring
phenomena. Introducing technology in the classrooms will add infinite opportunities to learn in
a creative and rich context. The concepts being taught could be demonstrated using colorful,
innovative demonstations through ICT intergrated systems. Using the electronic content
teacher helps to improve learning and are save their time and students have the opportunity to
realize their potential and create content. Students have the opportunity to learn from
available as well as external resources of information through the internet to grasp the topics
being taught.
.However, a balance must also be maintained between structured education and self-directed
learning.
“Gisele Glossor gave the concept of using real life objects in effective delivery process. That
concept can be an inspiration in which real life objects could be replaced with IT and
multimedia. Gisele glossor has given comprehensive method of creative ways of teaching that
are both engaging and boost creativity. For instance in teaching of mathematics humor can
be used to cheer up the class environment. The webpage math Goodies site was created by
Gisele Glosser. There are many ideas from Gisele Glosser to make math interesting and
easy to understand. For instance the Decimal Dance which helps in solving decimal
problem. Problem arises when student forgets to mark the decimal point” .
While teacher solve the the problems of the number, she or he exaggerate
the motion of counting decimal places.
Training Programs and the Role of teachers.
Since switching to ICT based education will bring about a complete shift in the methods of
delivery of education, it means much more than just installing hardware in the classrooms,
effective training of the teachers and motivating them to be familiar with the technology is the
biggest challenge. The teachers have been trained to conventional delivery methods and so
their motivation level and competence to learn the effective use of technology is extremely
important and is a major determinant of the success of these projects.
Many researches have been conducted in this regard in various countries that have introduced
technology based education system. Malaysia is one of such countries where much work has
been done to introduce ICT based education.
A research was conducted in this regard and published in International Journal of education
and Development using Information and Communication Technology (IJEDICT) 2010 Vol.6 Issue
2 by the name of “Supporting Smart School Teachers’ Continuing Professional Development
in and through ICT: A model for change”
This research sheds light on the significance of training the teachers and motivating them for
this major paradigm shift in the education system.
There must be an adequate support system for teachers so that it becomes possible for them
change their conventional education delivery process and adopt the technology based delivery
methods.
Whether the teachers take interest in doing so depends on many factors. The extrinsic barriers
to teachers’ ability of integrating ICT in their teaching practices are:
1. Lack of funds and resources
2. Lack of time to plan instructions and to get used to using the technology
3. Lack of technical training and know-how.
The intrinsic factors being their beliefs and values that make them stick to conventional
teaching methods.
The Malaysian government, in order to overcome this hurdle organized a series of training
programs where the teacher were trained by familiarizing them with IT management skills and
motivating them to use computer in their daily planning and integrating multimedia in teaching
practice.
Similar teacher training programs were also conducted in Pakistan under the SMART SCHOOL
project. Here the teachers were introduced to technology that was to be incorporated in the
classrooms.
Also, since this new system presents a highly up-to-date and dynamic mode of education, the
teachers likewise must be ready to constantly upgrade and improve themselves so that they
can keep pace with the rapid evolving world.
The case of Malaysia is different from other countries like Australia, Britain, Japan, Ireland, USA
and also Pakistan as the initiatives of integrating ICT in education have been Top-down rather
than Bottom-up. This means that in Malaysia, the government has taken the initiatives and in
other countries and Pakistan, the initiatives have been taken by schools with support of
government (bottom-up).
Another challenge faced in Malaysia which will also be there in Pakistan is that of internet
connectivity. In remote areas and certain districts and also due to lack of resources, internet
connectivity and lack of basic infrastructure can be a hurdle as the online courseware and
management system etc. will not be accessible. To overcome this, Malaysian schools were
provided with notebook computers for teachers and CDs with all courseware etc.
Many other Studies were carried out related to the Smart School systems.
In 2005, Siti Suriah Salim and Sharif Mohd. Carried out a study of implementation of Smart
School approach and found out the major hurdles in the project. These hurdles were
1. Lack or resources.
2. Lack of teacher training.
3. Heavy workload and hectic schedules of the teachers.
4. Exam oriented approach of the education system.
In another study Azizah Yacob Et al. on teaching and learning of English in Smart Schools
concluded that the problems in infrastructure were the major sources of hindrance for the
students and teachers to adopt the Smart way of learning.
Another method of keeping teachers updated and professionally trained was proposed by the
university of Nottingham researchers Joyes and colleagues which was to introduce Virtual
interactive Platforms ViP’s where there would be online blogs and discussion forums for
teachers.
With this vision, Smart schools have been launched in Pakistan with plans to introduce
technology based highly-interactive education system through-out the country.
This report gives comprehensive details of how the establishment of Information and
communication technology (ICT) based education system in Pakistan can bring about a
transformation in the current education system in the country. It gives a vision of how this
reinvention of a “smart classroom” will lead to high quality up to date education which will
prepare the students to be highly functional and competent citizens and workforce for the
information age. Also, how the need for an education system that boosts divergent and
creative thinking in Pakistan could be fulfilled through such an Information communication and
Information and communication technology (ICT) based “Smart classrooms” has been discussed
in the report. A comparison has been made with the Malaysian smart school Information and
communication technology (ICT) based education model where Information and
communication technology (ICT) integration in education has been quite a success. The report
also examines the current projects in Pakistan. The Smart Schools (TSS) that have been
launched throughout the country with a vision of promoting technology based “Smart”
education system at every nook and corner of the country. Moreover, the hurdles and
obstacles in establishing such an education system has been discussed in detailed and solutions
have been proposed. A plan as to how teachers can be trained to come at level with a
technology based education has also been given in the document.
There has been much debate going on about the setbacks of the current education system in
Pakistan. There are a lot of disparities that exist and the quality of education has not been up to
date and at par with global standards. The teachers are not trained and there is no check on
quality of education being imparted to the students in schools. So there is a need to introduce
Information communication and technology (ICT) based education system in the form of smart
school.
These hurdles are in establishing information communication and technology based schooling
system in Pakistan.
5. Lack or resources.
6. Lack of teacher training.
7. Heavy workload and hectic schedules of the teachers.
8. Exam oriented approach of the education system.
Through research by primary and secondary data , we conclude that people are willing to
establish a such education system in which their baby children are aware of technology just like
the children of developed countries. They are also willing to remove bag and courses system
that a small baby carry to their schools. Through this research we want to approach
government bodies to make help out the private school in converting such type of environment
in which a child would not consider study as liability but as in interesting manner .
With the advent of information technology, the world has transformed and there are more
challenges in the fast-paced world that live in especially to the developing countries. As
education is the key to all development, there is a strong need for our education systems to be
continually updated and be of the highest quality so as to prepare the next generation as highly
functional and competent workforce for the information age.
As IT has revolutionized our lifestyles, we must incorporate the Information and
Communication Technology to our education systems to make them ever more up to date and
to make our students grow as highly competent workforce at par with international standards.
This can be brought-about by integrating Information and communication technology at the
classroom level and then making use of all the possibilities to educate or children in the best
possible ways to give them a very rich and dynamic learning experience that boosts their
confidence and creativity and also make them life-long learners instead of limiting their
education to the classroom or school.
Environmental and Industrial Analysis
Future Outlook and trends
There has been much debate going on about the setbacks of the current education system in
Pakistan. There are a lot of disparities that exist and the quality of education has not been up to
date and at par with global standards. The teachers are not trained and there is no check on
quality of education being imparted to the students in schools. So there is a need to introduce
ICT based education system in the form of smart school.
Analysis of competitors
There are some competitors which have used the same concept of Smart School , but not they
have implemented the real concept of Smart School. There is no doubt that they have good will
in the market and a large amount of market has been captured by them. These competitors
includes:

business for their mean of profit or earnings from this business. The business have unlimited
liabilities among partners and investors as well.
Identification of partners or Principal Shareholder
As we have previously mentioned that this business is belong in between two partners. This is a
partnership business so we would not even think of issuing share by making it from an
institution to company. The name of the partners are listed below
∑ Syed Hassan Ahmed (BBA Hons )
∑ Dr.Saed khan ( Professor at Sir Syed University)
Authority of Principals
Since we have clearly declared that the ownership of this institution is only belong to two
partners that are mentioned above. Investors are not allowed to intervene in management
decisions. They would have only concerned with their profits. However, all the financial reports
are open to all investors

and tablet PC’s as well. So we have solution to provide them orientation regarding the use of
technology
Contingency plan
If we see that there are troubles in handling parents to use technology as secondary instructor
of their child. Then we would start the child from traditional schooling system to Smart
Schooling System
Potential Risk and its impact
There are two risks involved in this sector. One is competitors and other is any damage occur to
the technology. This may could make us in trouble by financially and also in doing our

Students have the opportunity to learn from available as well as external resources of information through the internet to grasp the topics being taught. .However, a balance must also be maintained between structured education and self-directed learning. “Gisele Glossor gave the concept of using real life objects in effective delivery process. That concept can be an inspiration in which real life objects could be replaced with IT and multimedia. Gisele glossor has given comprehensive method of creative ways of teaching that are both engaging and boost creativity. For instance in teaching of mathematics humor can be used to cheer up the class environment. The webpage math Goodies site was created by Gisele Glosser. There are many ideas from Gisele Glosser to make math interesting and easy to understand. For instance the Decimal Dance which helps in solving decimal problem. Problem arises when student forgets to mark the decimal point” . While teacher solve the the problems of the number, she or he exaggerate the motion of counting decimal places. Training Programs and the Role of teachers. Since switching to ICT based education will bring about a complete shift in the methods of delivery of education, it means much more than just installing hardware in the classrooms, effective training of the teachers and motivating them to be familiar with the technology is the biggest challenge. The teachers have been trained to conventional delivery methods and so their motivation level and competence to learn the effective use of technology is extremely important and is a major determinant of the success of these projects. Many researches have been conducted in this regard in various countries that have introduced technology based education system. Malaysia is one of such countries where much work has been done to introduce ICT based education. A research was conducted in this regard and published in International Journal of education and Development using Information and Communication Technology (IJEDICT) 2010 Vol.6 Issue 2 by the name of “Supporting Smart School Teachers’ Continuing Professional Development in and through ICT: A model for change” This research sheds light on the significance of training the teachers and motivating them for this major paradigm shift in the education system.
  • 4. There must be an adequate support system for teachers so that it becomes possible for them change their conventional education delivery process and adopt the technology based delivery methods. Whether the teachers take interest in doing so depends on many factors. The extrinsic barriers to teachers’ ability of integrating ICT in their teaching practices are: 1. Lack of funds and resources 2. Lack of time to plan instructions and to get used to using the technology 3. Lack of technical training and know-how. The intrinsic factors being their beliefs and values that make them stick to conventional teaching methods. The Malaysian government, in order to overcome this hurdle organized a series of training programs where the teacher were trained by familiarizing them with IT management skills and motivating them to use computer in their daily planning and integrating multimedia in teaching practice. Similar teacher training programs were also conducted in Pakistan under the SMART SCHOOL project. Here the teachers were introduced to technology that was to be incorporated in the classrooms. Also, since this new system presents a highly up-to-date and dynamic mode of education, the teachers likewise must be ready to constantly upgrade and improve themselves so that they can keep pace with the rapid evolving world. The case of Malaysia is different from other countries like Australia, Britain, Japan, Ireland, USA and also Pakistan as the initiatives of integrating ICT in education have been Top-down rather than Bottom-up. This means that in Malaysia, the government has taken the initiatives and in other countries and Pakistan, the initiatives have been taken by schools with support of government (bottom-up). Another challenge faced in Malaysia which will also be there in Pakistan is that of internet connectivity. In remote areas and certain districts and also due to lack of resources, internet connectivity and lack of basic infrastructure can be a hurdle as the online courseware and management system etc. will not be accessible. To overcome this, Malaysian schools were provided with notebook computers for teachers and CDs with all courseware etc. Many other Studies were carried out related to the Smart School systems.

Lack or resources. 2. Lack of teacher training. 3. Heavy workload and hectic schedules of the teachers. 4. Exam oriented approach of the education system. In another study Azizah Yacob Et al. on teaching and learning of English in Smart Schools concluded that the problems in infrastructure were the major sources of hindrance for the students and teachers to adopt the Smart way of learning. Another method of keeping teachers updated and professionally trained was proposed by the university of Nottingham researchers Joyes and colleagues which was to introduce Virtual interactive Platforms ViP’s where there would be online blogs and discussion forums for teachers. With this vision, Smart schools have been launched in Pakistan with plans to introduce technology based highly-interactive education system through-out the country. There are a lot of disparities that exist and the quality of education has not been up to date and at par with global standards. The teachers are not trained and there is no check on quality of education being imparted to the students in schools. So there is a need to introduce Information communication and technology (ICT) based education system in the form of smart school. Heavy workload and hectic schedules of the teachers. 8. Exam oriented approach of the education system. Through research by primary and secondary data , we conclude that people are willing to establish a such education system in which their baby children are aware of technology just like the children of developed countries. They are also willing to remove bag and courses system that a small baby carry to their schools. Through this research we want to approach government bodies to make help out the private school in converting such type of environment in which a child would not consider study as liability but as in interesting manner . With the advent of information technology, the world has transformed and there are more challenges in the fast-paced world that live in especially to the developing countries. As education is the key to all development, there is a strong need for our education systems to be continually updated and be of the highest quality so as to prepare the next generation as highly functional and competent workforce for the information age. As IT has revolutionized our lifestyles, we must incorporate the Information and Communication Technology to our education systems to make them ever more up to date and to make our students grow as highly competent workforce at par with international standards. This can be brought-about by integrating Information and communication technology at the classroom level and then making use of all the possibilities to educate or children in the best possible ways to give them a very rich and dynamic learning experience that boosts their confidence and creativity and also make them life-long learners instead of limiting their education to the classroom or school.
