by Department of Industrial Policy
& Promotion (DIPP) for the startup policy
framework in the year 2018. We have seen a
spike in the listing of companies performing
well in Gujarat for last couple of years. The
state is seen as a hub for the textile, pharma,
plastic and more recently auto industries.

now, pets have become an integral part of a family. From pet
owners, now people call themselves pet parents. The product
range, international brands, shop sizes, customer base,
geographical locations, online, overall business volumes have
gone up exponentially in the last decade.
What is your company’s goal and vision?
Goal:
We thrive on three values - Trust, Education, and Passion!
Providing the best products & services through ethical
business practices to all stakeholders is our priority. We focus
on operational excellence by eliminating non-productive
inventory, keeping the stores clean and uncluttered. Just Dog’s
employees are well educated to answer Pet Parent’s questions
and spread awareness amongst them, to delight them and
serve them for life.
Vision:
We aim to grow more and expand our presence in every

How do you manage your sales?
Concerning managing sales, everything is planned for the
entire financial year. Then the planning is broken down to
half-yearly, quarterly, monthly to every single day. Every store
has a minimum of one main Store Manager who is responsible
for end-to-end management of the store management which
includes sales as their main function. The store manager

Manager, multiple Store executives, Groomers,
Drivers, Delivery executives, and Housekeeping. The
entire team put together manages various aspects
of the store like inventory, merchandising, hygiene,

ensures every customer is attended to with utmost
care, being responsive, and making the right product
is available at the time and the right place.
What was the driving force behind
the establishment of your company?
What idea propelled you towards the
institution of this company?
The brand was born on 16th January 2011 in
Nehrunagar, Ahmedabad, with the vision to fulfill
every pet’s need in its lifetime and to help pet parents
become the best they can be. Just Dogs follows three
values – Trust, Education, and Passion. They use
these values to provide the best products & services
through ethical business practices to all stakeholders.
The stores are modern and uncluttered and are
a second home for pets. The employees are very
well-educated to answer any question asked by pet
parents, spreading knowledge and awareness to the
public.
Just Dogs keeps a large variety of pet products,
ranging from pet food, grooming, and health and
hygiene. Just Dogs also provides services like pet
grooming, where all pets leave the spa bright-eyed
and bushy-tailed. The love for pets doesn’t stop
there; the Just Dogs Foundation provides sustenance
to stray animals all over India. Just Dogs has also
teamed up with Zomato Feeding India, Food For
Paws to provide millions of food portions to the

14. Tell us about yourself and your journey
from the beginning including your
experience in academia.
I was a student in the past, I am a student at present,
and I will be a student in the years to come. In the
famous book of Edgar Shien “The Learning Man”,
he says that the individual is not an entity in his or
her chosen field until and unless he develops himself
according to the ever-changing environment.
It is a never-ending process and carries on
throughout the life of an individual. Kylie in the book
of management of man at work named as ‘The Gold
Collar Workers’ has said that a professional has to
build himself and the environment around him.
He has to store the experiences for the future,
but with a view of extending the mind for
new uses in the future. Experience not only
reinforces classroom theory but also helps
in relating theory in future sessions.
JUST DOGS was born on that note ...
I finished 10th STD from St. Francis De
Sales, Nagpur, and SSC from Don Bosco,
Lonavala in 1987 followed by B.Sc in
Computer Science from Hislop
College, Temple Road, Civil
Lines, Nagpur in 1994.
I started my career
with Toshali Resorts
International as an Assistant
manager from 1994 to 1997. Then I
moved to Unilever as Territory Sales
Manager for MP & GJ from 1997 to
1999. From 1999 to 2003 I worked as
Area Sales Manager in Shell for GJ & RJ.
From 2003 to 2007 I worked as Regional
Sales Manager – Personal Loans for West
Region in ICICI. Before starting
JUST DOGS, I was heading the
State Sales / Collections
& Recoveries from 2007 to 2010 for Barclays Bank
India.

LocatedonthewestcoastofIndia,Gujarathasthelongest
sea coastline of 1,600 kms in the country with vast spread
white desert named as Rann of Kutch. State of Gujarat
has grown at a rapid pace in past two decades. The state
government was successful to attract investors from
India and foreign countries which game major boost to
their economy. At current point, Gujarat stands in the
list of most favourite destination for industrial plants in
India after the Northern states like Haryana, Himachal
Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. In recent
time Gujarat state government launched a scheme to
boost electric vehicle purchase in the state.
Gujarat is a leader in industrial sectors such as chemicals,
petrochemicals, dairy, drugs and pharmaceuticals,
cement and ceramics, gems and jewellery, textiles and
engineering. The industrial sector comprises of over 800
large industries and 453,339 micro, small and medium
enterprises.
Economic Data
Gujarat’s industrial economy has 13 major industrial
groups, accounting for approximately 82.05% of total
factories, 95.85% of total fixed capital investment,
90.09% of production and 93.21% of value added. The
state’s total exports were $ 63,440 million in 2019-20
and $ 60,587 million in 2020-21.
With more than 3,300 pharmaceutical manufacturing
units in Gujarat, it contributed 30-35% to India’s
pharmaceutical sector sales in 2018-19 and about
28% to India’s pharmaceutical exports. Gujarat’s
pharmaceutical exports reached US $ 305.33 million in
2019-20 and US $ 2.789.92 million in fiscal year 21.
In 2019-20, the state produced 4.6 million tonnes of
crude oil and 1,287 million cubic meters of natural gas.
Total consumption of petroleum products in 2019-
20 was 22.53 million metric tons (MMT). Gujarat’s
petroleum product exports reached $ 211.092 million
in fiscal year 21.

The state is the world’s largest producer of processed
diamonds, accounting for 72% of the world’s processed
diamond share and 80% of India’s diamond exports.
With a contribution of 65 to 70% to India’s denim
production,Gujaratisthelargestmanufacturerofdenim
in the country and the third largest in the world. There
are 42 ports, 18 domestic airports and one international
airport. There are 106 product clusters and 60 notified
special economic zones (SEZs). Large scale investment
is expected in Gujarat as part of the US$ 90 billion
Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

24. About Roastea
The history of Roastea began with long, tedious working
hours for 3 years at one of the biggest law firms of India.
Pulling several late-nighters demanded a constant need
for premium and fresh tea, coffee, green tea or other
immunity boosters. The co-founders, Chaitanya and
Anurag had to carry ‘coffee decoction’ from home or
forego the comfort of a hot beverage in the middle of
the night. Good home-made masala chai was never
available in offices through existing vending machines.
The tea made on stove lacked the consistency in taste
and quality. The only way to beat this was to go to a tapri
or an expensive café out of office.
The genesis of Roastea emerged with a clear vision of
serving speciality coffee, chai and other allied beverages
to all. At Roastea, the team aims to serve good quality,
hygienic and easy-to-operate beverage dispensing
alternatives in the Indian market. This was further
accentuated by the reality that there were no coffee/
tea vending machines which served authentic Indian
masala tea. Although there were pre-mix alternatives or
dip-dip tea alternatives, neither were truly preferred by
the tea connoisseurs.

Roastea has successfully “leveraged technology” to
optimize utilization of resources by reducing wastages,
collecting user preferences and analyzing consumer

at Bakrol, Ahmedabad. The company has been
established for manufacturing of material handling
equipment such as various types of automated cranes
and patented hoists to cater handling equipment
needs of the Indian market and Global markets.

you visit. One of the thrilling experiences of the Gujarat
tour is their cuisine. They have mastered the art of
vegetarian cooking and their cuisine is delectable and
mouth-watering. To start with, you must go for Gujarati
Thali - which is a complete vegetarian meal.
Let’s jump into a delicious ride of Gujarati food:
Gujarati Thali
A Gujarati thali typically comprises of one or two
steamed or fried snacks called farsans, a green vegetable,
a tuber or a gourd shaak (shaaks are main courses with
vegetables and spices mixed into a curry or a spicy dry
dish), a kathol (braised pulses like beans, chickpea or
dry peas), one or more yogurt dishes like dahi, kadhi
(yogurt and pulses soup), raita or sweet shrikhand,
rice or khichdi, daal usually toor dal, and sweets like
halwa, basundi or shrikhand. Accompaniments include
sweet, sour & spicy chutneys, pickles, ghee and a salad
of chopped vegetables served raw or may be steamed in
spices.
Snacks
☐ Khaman: Similar to the dhokla, but not the same,
khaman is made from only gram flour and is usually
lighter in colour and softer than the dhokla. The

secret is adding more baking soda to the batter to
make it fluffier and spongier.
☐ Handvo: This savoury baked cake is made with rice,
lentils, and vegetables (often bottle gourd), carrots,
and fenugreek leaves. It is spiced with fresh ginger
and green chilies and tempered with mustard seeds,
sesame seeds, and dried red chillies. It works well
with a side of spicy pickle or green chutney.
☐ Dabeli: Literally meaning ‘pressed’ in Gujarati, this
Kutchi cousin of the Mumbaiya vada pav is made by
mixing mashed boiled potatoes with special masala,
and encasing the mixture in a ladi pav. The Kutchi
Dabeli is garnished with pomegranate pearls and
roasted peanuts, and served with a chutney made
from tamarind, dates, garlic, and red chilies.
☐ Fafda: The crisp, yellow snack is a festival favourite,
especially during Dussehra. The batter, made of
gram flour, carom seeds and oil, is rolled out into
cylindrical shapes and deep-fried till crisp. Served
with deep-fried chillies, papaya sambaro, and besan
chutney, it’s a much-loved breakfast treat.
☐ Khakra: This thin, papad-like snack is most
commonly made from a mixture of wheat flour, mat
bean, and oil. Flavours such as methi, jeera, pudina
and ajwain are common, and new ones like dosa and
chaat are gaining popularity. Not very well known is
the mungdi, a sweet variant of the khakhra.
☐ Thepla: This soft flatbread is part of the main meal,
but is often consumed as breakfast or a snack with a
hot beverage. Typically made with wheat flour, gram
flour, fenugreek leaves, and other spices, the flatbread
is liberally dotted with sesame seeds. Gujaratis enjoy
their thepla with dahi, chhundo (sweet mango
pickle), and red garlic chutney. A smattering of every
flavour! Variants use dudhi (bottle gourd) and mooli
(radish).
☐ Fada ni Lapsi: Broken wheat, or dalia as we know it
in India, gets a makeover in this healthy dessert that
often works as a one-pot meal. The dalia is roasted in
ghee and cooked in milk, and gently flavoured with
cardamom, fennel seeds, and saffron. Garnishing
with almond slivers and raisins takes the milky
dessert to another level.
☐ Lilo Chevdo: ‘Lilo’ means wet in Gujarati, and this
Vadodara snack has a wet feel. Despite that, it’s
crunchy. Grated potatoes are deep-fried and mixed
with chana dal, and lemon juice for a lip-smacking
snack.
