Healthy Wey Vision Promotes Wellness

Impact
Thanks to the strong partnership
of Healthy Wey, Mass in Motion,
and the Town of Weymouth,
healthy initiatives have led city
planning and community design
efforts. Weymouth’s Municipal
Healthy Eating Policy, expansion
of the Healthy Dining Restaurant
Initiative, and Farmer's Market
make healthy food options
available to more people. The
Open Space Plan and Safe Routes
initiatives are increasing
opportunities for residents to be
physically active by addressing
walkability, sidewalk
improvements, and funding for
park improvements.
Where are we going?
With new funding for a 3-year Mass in Motion grant, continued work will address 5 focus areas:
Healthy Dining/Healthy Neighborhood Markets: continue healthy dining work from previous grant and expand to
include small grocery stores, and prioritizing underserved neighborhoods.
Complete Streets: develop and implement a complete streets policy to become certified in the new state program.
Safe Routes to School: establish a community-wide safe routes to school initiative to increase walking and bicycling to
school on a daily basis.
Joint Use Agreement: adopt an agreement to make town facilities available for recreational use by children, adults, and
families.
Farmer’s Market: provide support for the Farmer’s Market to showcase healthy food options in order to increase their
availability and community-wide awareness. Encourage use of SNAP and WIC benefits by working with the food pantry.
