1. STUDENT SENATE RESOLUTION BILL 2014-1025
TITLE: Resolution Supporting a Proactive Response towards Racism on Campus

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, February 26th, 2014, several “Wanted Dog for Cash”
flyers were posted around UF campus, in areas such as Little Hall and Carleton
Auditorium, depicting erroneous stereotypes of Asian Americans; and,
WHEREAS, in response to such expression, the Asian Pacific Islander Affairs (APIA)
filed a bias incident and formal complaint with the UFPD; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, February 28th, 2014, a forum hosted by APIA aimed to change
the viewpoints regarding Asian Americans and prevent such incidents from occurring
again; and,
WHEREAS, the news station, ABC 20 WCJB-TV broadcasted a coverage of students’
response to the incident including interviews with students and coverage from the APIA
forum; and,
WHEREAS, the perpetrators of the flyers released an anonymous e-mail apologizing for
their acts, claiming that their intentions were to carry out a “social experiment,” then,
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Student Government Senate
encourages proactive responses towards racism and discriminatory actions in regards to
all ethnicities and minorities and,
THEREFORE, LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the views of these flyers do
not align with the ethical standards of Student Government Senators and what fellow UF
Gators stand for, and we will continue to stand above these shameful acts and strive
towards creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming campus for Gators of all walks of life.
Proviso: A copy of this resolution shall be sent to the Director of Asian Pacific Islander
Affairs, Alexander Cena, the President of the Asian American Student Union, and to all
of the presidents of its sub-organizations.
