2. Team Collaborative Assignment – Week 3 2
This Week three paper is my response to a problem posted by a team member and how
statistics can be used to solve simple problems in everyday life. Three of six team members
participated in the discussion with the remainder of the team being missing. This paper was
written based on available responses from the partial team. My title of this paper puts team in
quotations because I don’t believe I am actually part of one, and that is sad.
Electronic Warehousing
Team member Monique Holmes proposed the problem of switching to an electronic
warehousing system to assist with her purchasing duties at her job in Week two. While there
was a response regarding the effective use of electronic inventory systems, I proposed problems
with the wireless systems and advised of bug fix times which could possibly hinder production.
No response was received to this problem by the team. Discussions would have been had to help
determine down time effect on productivity and job performance. Unfortunately, this discussion
was never had due to lack of input.
What we are witnessing as a team is just a simple one line problem and not utilizing the
conditional probability lesson contained in the weekly learning. Had this been included in
discussions with the team, alternative theories could have been raised such as the technology
down time experienced before true success rates in the high nineties. Having come from a place
that switched to electronic warehousing, I know first hand how statistics could have been used to
actually help solve these problems and create a better environment with as little downtime as
possible.
New warehouse wirless systems have things like bugs, downtime, learning curves,
connectivity issues (due to the medal in the warehouses) and equipment failure which hinder true
success of the system.
3. Team Collaborative Assignment – Week 3 3
Even though I have first hand knowledge of these conditional probabilities which could
result from the implementation of a new wireless system, the team did not want to hear from me
so I abstained from comments for the most part.
Conclusion
While the team tried to collaborate this week, they fell short in responding to each
problem as instructed. I posted alternative theories and problems which used the lessons of the
week but, once again, my posts were ignored by the team and instead of viable discussions
regarding how statistics could solve the problems at hand, it was more like two people having a
conversation about how one loves what the other posts.
A team environment should be condusive for feedback for all, participation according to
the guidelines and feedback on each problem to aide in the learning process. This team
continues to ignore everyone but the two other people talking and excludes everyone around
them.
Sorry to say but no solutions could be discussed in class this week due to the lack of
discussions which were supposed to happen.
