Energy
The latest scientific training and development of the technologies of
tomorrow.
The energy platform is a constantly-evolving experimental infrastructure
dedicated to training and research in the energy sector.
The platform comprises electric energy production systems composed
of wind-turbines, solar panels, hydrogen fuel cells associated with sto-
rage devices (batteries, supercapacitors) and appropriate converters.
This complex hybrid network enables the development of electric energy
control strategies using a Smart Grid.
Vehicle of the future
Aimed at developing different structures for hybrid cars.
The electric vehicle of the future platform allows to test different electri-
cal distribution structures, choose the electric actuators, implant diverse
interface electronic algorithms and energy control.
It enables the development of different hybrid car structures (sole elec-
tric propulsion or thermic and electric blend propulsion).
Storage devices (lithium batteries and supercapacitors) can be inserted
into the power structure to improve system performance and enable the
global energy optimisation of the operating cycle.
Mobile systems
Training in industrial skills in the field of autonomous or controlled complex
systems digital sciences.
The mobile systems platform trains engineering students in robotics and
control theory, operations research, real-time computing, identification,
communication network, modeling and 3D simulation.
It allows to implement solutions that integrate robots in their environ-
ment discovery capabilities, decision making algorithms and optimiza-
tions, trajectory control, communication.

Training in line with the needs of industry
Able to face the major challenges of tomorrow, ENSEM engineers develop
their skills in strategic areas such as energy production, intelligent manage-
ment of electrical networks, innovation in transport, safety and security of
complex systems.
Solid general training given to students in basic scientific engineering disci-
plines: mechanical, electrical and information science, brings them the skills
that allow them to be immediately operational in industrial and innovative
projects, and progress rapidly to positions of high responsibility.
An international perspective
Today, spending part of your education abroad is a real asset or even a ne-
cessity. ENSEM accompanies its students in their international training pro-
jects and encourages them to do an exchange in one of its forty partner
universities.
Our international school policy results in the signing of new agreements with
foreign universities each year.
Strong partnerships with industry
and research
ENSEM has forged partnerships with the leading industrial groups in the field
of energy (General Electric, EDF, Safran, EADS, GDF SUEZ, CEA). ENSEM’s
connection to a network of 7500 engineers is a major asset for future engi-
neers.
Furthermore, ENSEM benefits from the skills of the professors of five inter-
nationally renowned laboratories associated with the CNRS: the assurance
of permanently updated training related to the issues of progress and inno-
vation.

Energy
training
Digital Systems
training
The challenges of the energy transition in 2050 have induced many technological breakthroughs in the areas of production,
optimal distribution and rational use of energy and renewables (energy efficiency and consumption optimization, massive
electrification, control and management of energy systems, cogeneration and energy recovery processes, new and re-
newable energy).
ENSEM trains engineers capable of supporting these technological breakthroughs by carrying out development and
research projects in the fields of mechanics, electrical engineering and information science.
Mechanics Information science Electrical engineering
The training program
The science curriculum, combining
mechanics, electrical engineering and
information science, is complemented
by general studies (foreign languages,
communication, managerial sciences,
system engineering).
Professional possibilities are secured
by internships and multiple industrial
interventions. International experience
is encouraged through numerous pos-
sibilities of academic exchanges and
internships abroad.
This combination enables students to
acquire a solid scientific and technical
foundation recognized by the industry,
an accurate understanding of the is-
sues in the field of energy and essen-
tial background knowledge to the engi-
neering profession.
From the second year, differentiated
courses are offered. They are mainly
based on the choice of 3 majors:
▶ Energy systems: energy system
performance involving fluid mechanics
skills, in thermodynamics and heat en-
gineering (transport, conversion and
storage, heat transfer) and mechanics
of materials and structures.
▶ Electric energy: production design
devices, conversion, distribution, pro-
cessing or storage of electrical energy
with the quality objectives of supply
and diversification of sources.
▶ Systems, information & Energy:
design of intelligent and communica-
ting systems for controlling complex
energy systems in a controlled man-
ner, and optimized and safe operation.
The school participates in three Mas-
ters, in conjunction with laboratories,
LEMTA (mechanical engineering/ ener-
gy), GREEN (Electrical Engineering) and
CRAN (automatic control), allowing en-
gineering students to obtain a double
degree ENSEM / Master to facilitate an
international career path.
Rich and exciting

Digital sciences are at the heart of connected objects and intelligent products that combine the processing capabilities
of information and communication with their environment. Digital technology is the core of new engineering systems (3D
modeling, virtualization, simulation, digital prototyping) for the design and development of intelligent systems.
ENSEM trains engineers in charge of research, design and development in areas such as monitoring and control sys-
tems, the safety and security of critical systems, digital modeling and simulation, software and embedded services
or signal processing and image.
The training program
The first two years of study are
conducted in the core curriculum.
They are devoted to the acquisition of
the basic science skills of applied ma-
thematics (scientific computing, nu-
merical analysis), computer science
(algorithms and programming, da-
tabases, networks), automatic engi-
neering (control systems, operational
safety), signal processing and image.
The science curriculum is supple-
mented by general studies (foreign
languages, communication, mana-
gerial sciences, system enginee-
ring). Openings in the workplace are
guaranteed through internships and
multiple industrial interventions. In-
ternational experience is encouraged
through numerous possibilities of
academic exchanges and internships
abroad.
The third year of study is based upon
a specialization year:
▶ an academic course of one semes-
ter; several courses are offered: cer-
tain lead to the award of a double de-
gree with Masters in:
•	 computer science ;
•	 complex systems engineering ;
• computational mathematics.
▶ a 6-month internship in-company
or in a laboratory.
