Evolutionists Vs Creationists
'Creationism and the theory of evolution both offer explanations for the variety of life on Earth. However, arguments between creationists and
evolutionists are futile because the two views are base on such fundamentally different approaches.' Assess this view. Darwin's evolution theory is still
often discussed. There are two different groups who have their own opinion how life was created. This could be seen from the science perspective or the
religion perspective. We are going to compare these approaches in this essay. The religion theory is mostly based on faith. Their believes are based on
what the Bible, Koran or other religious books state. This is untouchable to scientific theory because they are the words of God. People trust what

After looking at the old–creationist's views and their supporting arguments to their claims, the focus is now shifted towards young–earth creationism
and why it is the one more likely to be true of the two theories.
Death Before the Fall Evolutionists claim man's existence was brought about over a course of millions of years which consisted of much death,
bloodshed, and suffering. Fossils which evolutionists say represent millions of years of history, are not a record of life, but of death. Many places
around the world there is evidence of death in fossil graveyards that are said to contain millions of former creatures packed in very tightly over time.
When Adam and Eve sinned they died spiritually, they began to die physically, the serpent...show more content...
There have been scholars that claim there are gaps in the Genesis genealogies, but there have also been many scholars that have studied and
contended that there were no gaps. (Pierce, L. 2006. The world: Born in 4004 BC? (Answers Magazine, April 2006) no. 1, 25–26, 72.
Wayne Grudem said, "it seems only fair to conclude that the genealogies of Scripture have some gaps in them" while being unable to identify any gaps
in the Genesis genealogy. Grudem explained his views on animal death when he said that "there was no doubt death in the plant world before the Fall".
Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine (Zondervan, 1994), p. 292 Grudem has not totally rejected the
young–earth argument when it comes to no pre–Fall animal death. He acknowledges the fossil evidence claimed to be millions of years old in a "very
good" creation is a struggle for old–earth creationists and even favors young–earth creationists view especially when it comes to the Flood Theology.

Evolution Vs Creationism
People have always wondered how life originated and how so many different kinds of plants and animals arose. Stories of a supernatural creation of
life developed among many peoples. The Bible, for example, tells of God's creation of humans and other higher animals over several days. Many
people also believed that insects, worms, and other lower creatures spontaneously generated from mud and decay. Long after these stories became
rooted in tradition, scientists began to question them.
Albert Einstein said, "The scientist's religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an
intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic...show more content...
All organisms can be traced back to a common ancestor from inanimate matter. Charles Darwin once said, "When I view all beings not as
special creations, but as the lineal descendants of some few beings which lived long before the first bed of the Cambrian system was deposited, they
seem to me to become ennobled." (Darwin)
Creationists believe in a divine creator, God. Creationism has a broad range of beliefs involving a reliance on God's miraculous work to explain the
origin of the universe, of life, and of the different kinds of plants and animals on Earth. According to the creationist view, God willed everything into
existence, and this is how humans came onto the Earth. Creationists say that the evolution theory is biased and incomplete. They believe that the fossil
records fail to provide a link between diverse groups. To find out how old fossils are, scientists use a method called radioisotope dating, which
measures the amount of uranium or lead lost over the years.
Two decades after Darwin's Origin of Species was published many religious leaders feared that a less–than–literal reading of the biblical story would
result in a loss of faith; and well–known spokesmen for the cause–such as William Jennings Bryan– of moral decay to be evidence of the damage
brought about by the teaching of the godless evolution. The issue was argued on a number of platforms, one of the most famous being the Scopes
Trial (1925), in which a high school

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay
Where we come from is a question as old as mankind itself. There are countless numbers of religions, each with their own twist on the origins of earth
and mankind, but one of the most highly visible debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth has been
around somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would tend to believe that this vast difference in time would make it
impossible to have 2 "theories" that are so widely accepted. However this debate gives you just that. Each argument has its variations, however it
comes down to either God created the Earth and all things in it as they are now or that life today has evolved from a...show more content...
Under the same idea, the "Old Earth" train of thought is that the "days" mentioned in Genesis were actually up to many millions of years each. This
is one of many "theories" that justifies the actual age of the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of creation
contained in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is instead a guide promoting a six–day workweek with the
seventh day a day of worship to God. The last view is much like the second, in that it considers the "days" to be God's workdays, which may or may not
be equal to an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God performed a major task. Each view has the same underlying concept
that God created everything, and the way it is today, it the way it was when it was created.
Webster's Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the
distinguishable differences are due to modification in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of opinions.
Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic.
Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. It simply states that life started as a single one–celled organism. The universe was created 14 billion
years ago, and the Earth was

Evolutionism vs. Creationism
Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3
Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin,
but had been a theory before his time as well. In order for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that
happen over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about 5 billion years old. This enables many
changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the
survival of a species. These adaptations, which factor into natural selection, can only be achieved through mutations that can be carried on to offspring.
Scientists attempt to prove the theory of evolution through fossil evidence, scientific records, and through...show more content...
Each individual has his or her own ideas and thoughts that may not correspond exactly to the main ideas within evolution or creationism. Both
creationism and evolutionism are present in many cultures and religious affiliations. A very popular belief among modern individuals is that the ideas
of both evolution and creationism are where our origins arise. One of the more admired forms of this idea is that god created the earth and life on
earth from matter, but some higher power is also the mechanism of evolution and that god intervenes in actions on earth by deciding the fate of certain
species (god creates mutations). This belief is known by most as theistic evolution. There are various other theories present in both the religious and
scientific community that try to connect the ideas of evolution with biblical texts and ideas. The debate behind evolution vs. creationism is all about
people trying to figure out the origin of life and where everything came to

As we have learned in class and as we still see now in the modern world, the topic of evolution vs creationism has been one of much dispute. To
many, there is only one side; you either believe in God or in Science, you either believe that Adam and Eve are our ancestors or you believe that
through the years and the changes in the world we have evolved from apes. Whichever side you find yourself on there will always be someone that
disagrees with you and is willing to tell you why you are wrong.
Similarly, to the Scopes Trials in 1925; Edward Humes, an award–winning journalist wrote Monkey Girl: Evolution, Education,Religion, and the Battle

rejected evolution but didn't have an actual explanation as to why it was wrong other than that it was just not the truth. For example,Bill Buckingham,
school board member who as Humes writes, "was set up as the villain in the drama (Humes, p.310);" only believed in that America was founded on
religion and he completely rejected evolution without even knowing enough on either of them (Humes, p.310–311). Although in the end Buckingham
and his supporters did lose the trial, it did not hide the fact that there will always be a disagreement when it comes to whether teaching evolution and

Evolution! The theory that every living organism has come from a lesser organism. A theory that claims humans have come from monkeys. This
"theory", is what's being taught to our children in school. If a child asks a teacher about the theory of Creation, they are sure to get a response like,
"I'm not allowed to answer that question", or something along those lines, because schools are not allowed to teach on religious subjects. I guess
schools think that evolution is the next best thing.
I believe that the world was created by God!

Materialistic philosophy is a philosophy that places materialistic goods above spiritual values; this type of philosophy is what produced the theory of
evolution.
The person who put forth the theory of evolution the way it is defined today, was an amateur English Naturalist, Charles Robert Darwin.
According Darwin, "living species were not created by God, but came from a common ancestor and differentiated from each other as a result of
natural conditions." Listen to an example given by the History Of Science Society, "Giraffes evolved from antelope–like creatures by extending there
necks further and further from generation to generation in order to reach higher and higher branches of food."
He said living creatures were passing the traits they had acquired during their lifetime from one generation to another, and therefore we evolving. I
think that it is safe to say the theories of Darwin were based on the power of imagination.
As we have seen, the Theory of evolution has not been based on any scientific evidence, or even been claimed by a scientist. Yet the theory has been
taught to students across the country as the truth.
Now that we have looked at the theory of evolution, lets take a look at the theory of

In 1859, Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of
Species by Means of Natural Selection, which proposed the theory of evolution. This book, along with others that followed, began the long dispute
between evolutionist and creationist. Were we created by a supernatural Supreme Being, or did our creation occur purely by chance? First, lets look at
the two conflicting theories. Common usage of the term "evolution" is that living things in our world have come into existence through unguided
naturalistic processes beginning from a primeval mass of subatomic particles and radiation, over 20 billion years ago. The idea of Creation comes
from the first two chapters of Genesis which states that God created the heavens and...show more content...
Therefore we have a catch–22 situation. Besides, there are geological evidences that confirm the existence of an oxidizing atmosphere as far back as
can be determined.
Among these are: the oxidation of ferrous iron in early rocks, and the precipitation of limestone in great quantities.1 Now, lets assume for a minute that
the ideal environment for evolution to occur existed. We would then need a means by which the basic building blocks of life could be constructed.
Before you can assemble the large macro–molecules necessary for life you must have a ready supply of basic organic molecules. Among these would
be tons of sugars, amino acids, purines, and pyrimidines. Now assuming we had a vast primitive ocean full of these molecules there are still obstacles
that would need to be overcome to have a suitable ocean. The first problem would be the diluting effect of the vast ocean. There would not be enough
quantities of each basic molecule for molecular formation therefore insufficient quantities would result. The second problem would be that in order for
chemical bonds to form there would need to be an external source of energy. Unfortunately the same energy that creates these bonds is much more
likely to destroy them. The last major obstacle to overcome would be the incompatibility of different

Where do we come from? The creation of the world has been told in many stories all throughout time. The argument of evolution has been debated
back and forth for years, leaving many people on one side or the other. So how do we know what claim is claimed correctly? Did life begin with the
idea that living organism developed and diverse from the beginning of history of earth till now, or did the universe originate from a divine God in seven
days? With the debate of creationism vs. evolution, many forget the theory that life or the universe has arisen, designed, was created by an intelligent
entity.
Over the course of history, religion has always been an aspect of culture. Looking at religion followers many believe in the statement," In the
beginning, God created the heavens and the earth "(Genesis 1:1, NIV Bible). For many years' people were confident in the bible fact, logic and
evidence. In 1859 when the Publishing of Origin of Species by Darwin that arouse the debate on creationism vs. evolution began. For many years all
that people knew was religion and only the evidence told in church. "Only by looking back to our origins can we see the common root of both our
spiritual and scientific impulses in the ancient universe of myth" (Scott D. Sampson Sampson106)....show more content...

evolutionist agree on science it is viewed differently. Even as a believer science is around and by belief God created science. And along the way it is

Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two major sides to the story that is our Earth's history. An ever

explanation. Regardless of controversial turmoil, I believe that the two standpoints of Evolution and Creationism may coexist to explain our creation.

However, there is an "in–between" belief, known as Intelligent Design. Intelligent design not only agrees with science but considers religious

does not believe in an definite explanation for our upbringing. Although in partial agreement with the scientific community, IT disapproves of the
Darwinist theory. This theory believes in "lucky genetic accidents" in terms of natural selection, meaning that while Darwinism presumes that natural
selection did create our complexity, these "lucky accidents" were not based on just luck and chance. (Betty Stafford) Intelligent design concludes that
such accidents were actually decisions that may have been made by our intelligent creator or God. (Betty Stafford) Within Intelligent Design's the
position, the two beliefs of evolution and creationism exist in perfect inclusion in the fact that not one theory is more accepted than

Since the beginning of the human race there has been a lingering question as to the origins of man and how all living things acquired their
characteristics. The two main theories that arose over time were Creationism and Evolution, both of which provided very distinct answers to this
question. Creationism based its answer on the idea of a supernatural power or being that created the entire universe, man and the numerous other
organisms that live within it. While, Evolution theorizes that all living things have the potential to change and grow over time into something new and
different. So in other words, one theory suggests that humans and all the organisms on Earth are the result of divine design, while the other indicates

Every one of these flaws points out that the Creationists theory that the Earth, all of the organisms on it, and everything that surrounds it has not
changed or been altered since the flood is inaccurate. Biogeography for example shows that "closely allied" species have a tendency to live on the "same
continent... or within the same group of oceanic islands... despite their species–by–species preferences for different habitats, food source, [and] of
conditions of climate" (Quammen 4). The explanation for this is that "they descended from common ancestors" and this can be verified with the
paleontology flaw because that flaw deals with the fossils of plants and animals "that had [either] become extinct or that still existed but in different
forms" which indicates not only that organisms have changed over time, but also provides evidence that "closely allied" organism have lived in the
same areas of centuries (Quammen 4; Parks 24). Then in the taxonomic classification flaw these "closely allied" spices can be "systematically
classified, according to their shared similarities" which, suggests that "closely allied" organisms descended from common ancestor because of the traits
and similar organs that allows this type of classification (Quammen 5). The presence of these similar traits and organs introduces the flaw of vestigial
characteristics because although some of these do not have any current

Since the Age of the Enlightenment, the institution of religion has had to contend with the opposition of science regarding the issues of the origins of
the world and of the human species. Up until around the end of the 17th century, the church was the authority on how the world and everything in it
had come to be. However, with the great intellectual revolution came thinkers such as Galileo, Copernicus, Bacon, Descartes, and many others who
challenged the biblical assumptions with empirically deduced scientific theories. The Catholic Church had a nasty habit of persecuting such ideological
dissent toward creationism, calling it heresy and thereby somewhat suppressing a complete upheaval of the Scriptures. For many centuries to come,

that they needed to argue the irrationality of teaching evolution and claimed that it was only a mysterious theory and could not possibly have expert

Where do we come from? The creation of the world has been told through many different stories, and from a variety of religions across the world.
The argument between evolution and creation has been debated back and forth for years. So how do we know which claim is correct? Has all life
evolved from simple bacteria to all the species that appear today, or did life on earth begin with God's creation of Adam from dust and his partner
Eve from adam's rib bone. As a child I grew up attending church every Sunday with my grandparents, attending bible school, and taught the ways of

This occurs when a species is separated and mate with a different species, changing their genetic composition, if then the two species were to be
brought back together and mate again, it would cause what is called 'gene migration'. This process gives so many different variations among the
species, which allows more and more variation and population. This process also explains endangered species and extinction.
The main controversy creationist have with accepting the theories of evolution is how all different life forms were produced using genetic material that
was present and reproduced from the first living cells. Yet this claim has not fully been proved correct, scientific discoveries and theories have given it
great justice so far. Aside from genetic variation, crossbreeding, survival of the fittest etc. Such drastic changes from species to species are due to
mutations. In most eyes, mutations are considered to be harmful and destructive. Which is true in some cases, but they are also beneficial in the case of
genetics and evolution. Many helpful mutations are incorporated into the normal genotype through natural selection, and when harmful mutations do
occur the process of natural selection kills that mutation off. Without randomly occurring mutations, there would have been no development of life and
no evolution would have taken place.

Evolution vs. Creationism
Abstract
In the history of science vs. religion there have been no issues more intensely debated than evolution vs. creationism. The issue is passionately debated
since the majority of evidence is in favor of evolution, but the creation point of view can never be proved wrong because of religious belief. Human
creation breaks down into three simple beliefs; creation theory, naturalistic evolution theory, and theistic evolution theory. The complexities of all three
sides create a dilemma for what theory to support among all people, religious and non–religious.
Evolution vs. Creationism
The theories of human evolution may always cause a heated dispute. Each theory presents its own evidence proving...show more content...
Until science proves its naturalistic theory correct, the world will have to choose between the three theories based on personal beliefs, religious values,
and scientific information.
The creation theory includes over 500 different creation stories based on numerous religions (Religious Tolerance, 2004). The vast number of stories
creates strains on which evolution story is accurate. Christians that are creationists take the bible literally and believe the earth is around 10,000
years old. The creation theory will always exist with religion, so the creation theory can never be proved wrong since it is simply a religious belief.
Religion is still very important in the United States, and the acceptance of the naturalization theory would completely change Christianity all together.
Religious Tolerance, a website that outlays the conflict of evolution vs. creationism, explains how naturalism would shake Christianity. Religious
tolerance states that the acceptance of evolution would make people interpret Genesis symbolically and classify evolution stories as myths. Since the
creation stories are closely tied to the fall of man and to original sin, the entire role of Jesus would change. Without original sin, there would be no
need for a savior, and Christianity would change drastically. This further proves that the creation theory will live as long as religion. The Gallup
Organization studies what percentages of Americans believe in each of

to have even more knowledge on evolution and creationism. It's a very debatable topic, but students should understand that neither standpoint can be

The theory of evolution, as set forth by Charles Darwin in 1859, stated that all plant and animal life evolved over long periods of time from simple
to more complicated forms through mutation and adaptation. He also taught that only the fittest of each species would survive. He further postulated
that the first living cell evolved in a "warm warm little pond" and that it took billions of years for the present diversity of living things to evolve. At
the time, it was thought that the few "missing links" in the fossil record would be soon filled.(Darwin, 1927 ). Today, however, there is today a
considerable body of scientific evidence that refutes this entire theory. The findings of the last 50 years both deny the possibility of...show more

Mendel's Laws explain most of the physical variations observed in living things. Genes, the genetic units of heredity, are merely reshuffled from one
generation to another, but new genes are never formed. Different combinations create variations, but these variations are limited. Each cow, person,
dog, etc. has variations, but the genetic units do not permit dog–people, or cow–dogs. Breeding experiments by competent biologists confirm that these
boundaries exist.(Fix,1984). Since mutations are the only mechanism (according to Darwin) by which new genetic material becomes available, then
mutations must have occurred regularly to have spawned all our present life forms, and further, mutation must consistently go from simple to complex
to have gotten us out of the primordial ooze. However, many noted biologists, including C.P. Martin and Theodosius Dobzhansky (who mutated the
fruit fly), consistently report that mutation does produce hereditary changes, but "invariably affect it (the organism) adversely."(Salisbury, 1969). All
animals are born with complex organs (the human brain has over a hundred thousand billion electrical connections), and further, all animals are born
with fully developed organs. If evolution were occurring, at some point people

Evolution vs. Creationism
The Evolution vs. Creationism controversy goes all the way back to the Publishing of Origin of Species in 1859 by Darwin laying the foundation for
the evolution of life to be understood. Scientists are continuously finding more evidence to support Darwin's conclusion; that organisms descended
from a common ancestor modified by the mechanism of natural selection resulting in the evolution of species adapting to their environment. The
following are the main geological topics concerning creationism: radiometric dating, transitional forms and the Cambrian explosion. Creationism is
nothing more than a child's fairytale that lacks any scientific proof.
The aspect of radiometric dating is controversial to most...show more content...
Plus or minus a couple million years has a negligible effect on the results attempting to be obtained. Radiometric dating consistently prove from
analysis of bolide fragments that the earth is about 4.6 billion years old and once again disproving the Bible's 6,000 years. The problem for
creationism is that they can't prove there 'fairytale' correct because it's based on little fact, so they attempt to make the other valid ideas sound
ridiculous. Therefore, creationism attempts to prove radiometric dating incorrect and is nothing more than a feeble attempt to bring credibility to there
own ideas and beliefs.
Secondly, a once thought problem with evolution was the lack of transitional phases in the fossil record. For example it was once thought there were no
transitional phases between birds and reptiles; this has now been proven false by paleontologists. Archaeopteryx has distinctive avian characteristics
including a wishbone, a bony sternum and feathers (Geology). Several of its reptilian characteristics include unfused metacarpal bones, a long bony tail
and three well developed fingers. What is also interesting is that archaeopteryx lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. Again, it seems as if creationists
randomly start making assumptions in an attempt to slander other valid theories rather than proving there's correct (even thought that's impossible). "If
evolution were true, there would be more transitional

Evolution Creationism Vs. Creationism
Any point of contact with the scientific world in the 21st century will eventually lead one to the one of the most hotly contested topic in American
education, that of evolution versus creationism. While the creationist point of view, as well as the evolutionary perspective, hosts a great variation of
opinion amongst its supporters, Christianity is brought to the center stage time after time (Vuletic, 1994). Literal interpretation of the Book of
Genesis' account of creation falls contrary to the claims of the evolutionary paradigm (Vuletic, 1994). This then refutes the theory for some as
'atheistic', while many continue to claim the inability of science to explain metaphysical issues such as the existence of a deity, thus reconciling both
perspectives (Vuletic, 1994). It is redundant then, to continue arguing in circles of the proof either side has for its claims. One must extrapolate other
means of analyzing the situation. One such perspective is to focus not on what 'is' or 'is not' the reality of things, but rather what it 'means' to people.
Just as the Christian scriptures encourage a popular point of view, so does the Darwinian Theory. As scientific Darwinism is a body of theory which
claims, on Darwin's premises with important modern adjustments, of all life evolving from simple organisms to various and complex species witnessed
in the biosphere, a specific interpretation of this theory, which some refer to as 'comprehensive Darwinism', extrapolates it to account for

Evolutionists Vs Creationists

  • 1. Evolutionists Vs Creationists 'Creationism and the theory of evolution both offer explanations for the variety of life on Earth. However, arguments between creationists and evolutionists are futile because the two views are base on such fundamentally different approaches.' Assess this view. Darwin's evolution theory is still often discussed. There are two different groups who have their own opinion how life was created. This could be seen from the science perspective or the religion perspective. We are going to compare these approaches in this essay. The religion theory is mostly based on faith. Their believes are based on what the Bible, Koran or other religious books state. This is untouchable to scientific theory because they are the words of God. • 2. Creationism Vs Evolutionism After looking at the old–creationist's views and their supporting arguments to their claims, the focus is now shifted towards young–earth creationism and why it is the one more likely to be true of the two theories. Death Before the Fall Evolutionists claim man's existence was brought about over a course of millions of years which consisted of much death, bloodshed, and suffering. Fossils which evolutionists say represent millions of years of history, are not a record of life, but of death. Many places around the world there is evidence of death in fossil graveyards that are said to contain millions of former creatures packed in very tightly over time. When Adam and Eve sinned they died spiritually, they began to die physically, the serpent...show more content... There have been scholars that claim there are gaps in the Genesis genealogies, but there have also been many scholars that have studied and contended that there were no gaps. (Pierce, L. 2006. The world: Born in 4004 BC? (Answers Magazine, April 2006) no. 1, 25–26, 72. Wayne Grudem said, "it seems only fair to conclude that the genealogies of Scripture have some gaps in them" while being unable to identify any gaps in the Genesis genealogy. Grudem explained his views on animal death when he said that "there was no doubt death in the plant world before the Fall". Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine (Zondervan, 1994), p. 292 Grudem has not totally rejected the young–earth argument when it comes to no pre–Fall animal death. He acknowledges the fossil evidence claimed to be millions of years old in a "very good" creation is a struggle for old–earth creationists and even favors young–earth creationists view especially when it comes to the Flood Theology. Grudem 1994, p. 305, footnote 75. God's description of the pre–Fall creation, the impact of the Fall and the cosmic consequences of the full redemptive work of Christ should be decisive for a Bible–believing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Evolution vs.Creationism Essay Evolution Vs Creationism People have always wondered how life originated and how so many different kinds of plants and animals arose. Stories of a supernatural creation of life developed among many peoples. The Bible, for example, tells of God's creation of humans and other higher animals over several days. Many people also believed that insects, worms, and other lower creatures spontaneously generated from mud and decay. Long after these stories became rooted in tradition, scientists began to question them. Albert Einstein said, "The scientist's religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic...show more content... All organisms can be traced back to a common ancestor from inanimate matter. Charles Darwin once said, "When I view all beings not as special creations, but as the lineal descendants of some few beings which lived long before the first bed of the Cambrian system was deposited, they seem to me to become ennobled." (Darwin) Creationists believe in a divine creator, God. Creationism has a broad range of beliefs involving a reliance on God's miraculous work to explain the origin of the universe, of life, and of the different kinds of plants and animals on Earth. According to the creationist view, God willed everything into existence, and this is how humans came onto the Earth. Creationists say that the evolution theory is biased and incomplete. They believe that the fossil records fail to provide a link between diverse groups. To find out how old fossils are, scientists use a method called radioisotope dating, which measures the amount of uranium or lead lost over the years. Two decades after Darwin's Origin of Species was published many religious leaders feared that a less–than–literal reading of the biblical story would result in a loss of faith; and well–known spokesmen for the cause–such as William Jennings Bryan– of moral decay to be evidence of the damage brought about by the teaching of the godless evolution. The issue was argued on a number of platforms, one of the most famous being the Scopes Trial (1925), in which a high school Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Creationism vs. Evolution Essay Where we come from is a question as old as mankind itself. There are countless numbers of religions, each with their own twist on the origins of earth and mankind, but one of the most highly visible debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth has been around somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would tend to believe that this vast difference in time would make it impossible to have 2 "theories" that are so widely accepted. However this debate gives you just that. Each argument has its variations, however it comes down to either God created the Earth and all things in it as they are now or that life today has evolved from a...show more content... Under the same idea, the "Old Earth" train of thought is that the "days" mentioned in Genesis were actually up to many millions of years each. This is one of many "theories" that justifies the actual age of the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of creation contained in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is instead a guide promoting a six–day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The last view is much like the second, in that it considers the "days" to be God's workdays, which may or may not be equal to an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God performed a major task. Each view has the same underlying concept that God created everything, and the way it is today, it the way it was when it was created. Webster's Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modification in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of opinions. Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic. Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. It simply states that life started as a single one–celled organism. The universe was created 14 billion years ago, and the Earth was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Evolution And Creationism Evolutionism vs. Creationism Group K Special Topics Assignment # 3 Evolution refers to descent with modification and how populations of organisms change overtime. The idea was first popularized by Charles Darwin, but had been a theory before his time as well. In order for evolution to take place, the mechanisms must make very slow changes to organisms that happen over time. Most evolutionists believe that the earth was created over a long period of time and is about 5 billion years old. This enables many changes over slow periods of time to occur just as the theory of evolution suggests. Through natural selection, adaptations are created that benefit the survival of a species. Both creationism and evolutionism are present in many cultures and religious affiliations. A very popular belief among modern individuals is that the ideas of both evolution and creationism are where our origins arise. One of the more admired forms of this idea is that god created the earth and life on earth from matter, but some higher power is also the mechanism of evolution and that god intervenes in actions on earth by deciding the fate of certain species (god creates mutations). This belief is known by most as theistic evolution. There are various other theories present in both the religious and scientific community that try to connect the ideas of evolution with biblical texts and ideas. The debate behind evolution vs. creationism is all about people trying to figure out the origin of life and where everything came to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. As we have learned in class and as we still see now in the modern world, the topic of evolution vs creationism has been one of much dispute. To many, there is only one side; you either believe in God or in Science, you either believe that Adam and Eve are our ancestors or you believe that through the years and the changes in the world we have evolved from apes. Whichever side you find yourself on there will always be someone that disagrees with you and is willing to tell you why you are wrong. Similarly, to the Scopes Trials in 1925; Edward Humes, an award–winning journalist wrote Monkey Girl: Evolution, Education,Religion, and the Battle for America's Soul; on the 2005 Scopes Monkey trials in Dover, Pennsylvania. These trials focused on the school board's requirement of including Intelligent design as a counter to evolution in biology courses and eleven parents arguing that the change was like forcing creationist ideas on their children. The trials lasted 3 months and caused many to form their opinions and chose a side. In...show more content... He shows us both side of the coin and basically shows us through writing the spectacle that people made of the trial. Those who sided with the school rejected evolution but didn't have an actual explanation as to why it was wrong other than that it was just not the truth. For example,Bill Buckingham, school board member who as Humes writes, "was set up as the villain in the drama (Humes, p.310);" only believed in that America was founded on religion and he completely rejected evolution without even knowing enough on either of them (Humes, p.310–311). Although in the end Buckingham and his supporters did lose the trial, it did not hide the fact that there will always be a disagreement when it comes to whether teaching evolution and not religion in schools is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Evolution Vs. Creation Essay Evolution! The theory that every living organism has come from a lesser organism. A theory that claims humans have come from monkeys. This "theory", is what's being taught to our children in school. If a child asks a teacher about the theory of Creation, they are sure to get a response like, "I'm not allowed to answer that question", or something along those lines, because schools are not allowed to teach on religious subjects. I guess schools think that evolution is the next best thing. I believe that the world was created by God! Ever since I have been in high school I have questioned the theory of evolution. We are going to look at the theory of evolution and where the theory originated. We will also look at the theory of...show more content... Materialistic philosophy is a philosophy that places materialistic goods above spiritual values; this type of philosophy is what produced the theory of evolution. The person who put forth the theory of evolution the way it is defined today, was an amateur English Naturalist, Charles Robert Darwin. According Darwin, "living species were not created by God, but came from a common ancestor and differentiated from each other as a result of natural conditions." Listen to an example given by the History Of Science Society, "Giraffes evolved from antelope–like creatures by extending there necks further and further from generation to generation in order to reach higher and higher branches of food." He said living creatures were passing the traits they had acquired during their lifetime from one generation to another, and therefore we evolving. I think that it is safe to say the theories of Darwin were based on the power of imagination. As we have seen, the Theory of evolution has not been based on any scientific evidence, or even been claimed by a scientist. Yet the theory has been taught to students across the country as the truth. Now that we have looked at the theory of evolution, lets take a look at the theory of

  • 9. Creationism Vs. Evolution Essay In 1859, Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, which proposed the theory of evolution. This book, along with others that followed, began the long dispute between evolutionist and creationist. Were we created by a supernatural Supreme Being, or did our creation occur purely by chance? First, lets look at the two conflicting theories. Common usage of the term "evolution" is that living things in our world have come into existence through unguided naturalistic processes beginning from a primeval mass of subatomic particles and radiation, over 20 billion years ago. The idea of Creation comes from the first two chapters of Genesis which states that God created the heavens and...show more content... Therefore we have a catch–22 situation. Besides, there are geological evidences that confirm the existence of an oxidizing atmosphere as far back as can be determined. Among these are: the oxidation of ferrous iron in early rocks, and the precipitation of limestone in great quantities.1 Now, lets assume for a minute that the ideal environment for evolution to occur existed. We would then need a means by which the basic building blocks of life could be constructed. Before you can assemble the large macro–molecules necessary for life you must have a ready supply of basic organic molecules. Among these would be tons of sugars, amino acids, purines, and pyrimidines. Now assuming we had a vast primitive ocean full of these molecules there are still obstacles that would need to be overcome to have a suitable ocean. The first problem would be the diluting effect of the vast ocean. There would not be enough quantities of each basic molecule for molecular formation therefore insufficient quantities would result. The second problem would be that in order for chemical bonds to form there would need to be an external source of energy. Unfortunately the same energy that creates these bonds is much more likely to destroy them. The last major obstacle to overcome would be the incompatibility of different Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Creationism Vs Evolution Where do we come from? The creation of the world has been told in many stories all throughout time. The argument of evolution has been debated back and forth for years, leaving many people on one side or the other. So how do we know what claim is claimed correctly? Did life begin with the idea that living organism developed and diverse from the beginning of history of earth till now, or did the universe originate from a divine God in seven days? With the debate of creationism vs. evolution, many forget the theory that life or the universe has arisen, designed, was created by an intelligent entity. Over the course of history, religion has always been an aspect of culture. Looking at religion followers many believe in the statement," In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth "(Genesis 1:1, NIV Bible). For many years' people were confident in the bible fact, logic and evidence. In 1859 when the Publishing of Origin of Species by Darwin that arouse the debate on creationism vs. evolution began. For many years all that people knew was religion and only the evidence told in church. Scott D. Sampson describes evolution as, "All species, including humans, are inextricably interwoven into the history of life" (Sampson 224). Scientists have been trying to develop this theory over hundreds of years to make it believable to the people. Although a creationist and an evolutionist agree on science it is viewed differently. Even as a believer science is around and by belief God created science. And along the way it is evolving "God stands back from his His creation not to abandon His creatures, but to allow His people true freedom," Miller writes. • 11. Evolution Vs. Creationism Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two major sides to the story that is our Earth's history. An ever –clashing "battle", so to speak, between a religious and evolutionary outlook continues exist as a heated dispute. One side contains the scientific community which mainly uses proof of evolution to explain our upbringing, while the other side lies the creationists– those who believe in the use of biblical means and an intelligent ruler for explanation. Regardless of controversial turmoil, I believe that the two standpoints of Evolution and Creationism may coexist to explain our creation. For as long as we've been around to ponder, the question of how we "got here", or even how we were "made" has always existed. In terms of...show more content... However, there is an "in–between" belief, known as Intelligent Design. Intelligent design not only agrees with science but considers religious involvement; the term caters to both beliefs harmonically. Stating the acceptation of evolution to create our species on this planet, creationism is accepted in the belief that some things were possibly guided by an intelligent being, supernatural force, or God, in order to create a successful complexity. (Betty Stafford) Considering the standpoint of IT's belief, it is the perfect view for anyone with an open–minded outlook, which of whom does not believe in an definite explanation for our upbringing. Although in partial agreement with the scientific community, IT disapproves of the Darwinist theory. This theory believes in "lucky genetic accidents" in terms of natural selection, meaning that while Darwinism presumes that natural selection did create our complexity, these "lucky accidents" were not based on just luck and chance. (Betty Stafford) Intelligent design concludes that such accidents were actually decisions that may have been made by our intelligent creator or God. • 13. Essay on Evolution VS. Creationism Since the beginning of the human race there has been a lingering question as to the origins of man and how all living things acquired their characteristics. The two main theories that arose over time were Creationism and Evolution, both of which provided very distinct answers to this question. Creationism based its answer on the idea of a supernatural power or being that created the entire universe, man and the numerous other organisms that live within it. While, Evolution theorizes that all living things have the potential to change and grow over time into something new and different. So in other words, one theory suggests that humans and all the organisms on Earth are the result of divine design, while the other indicates that they...show more content... Every one of these flaws points out that the Creationists theory that the Earth, all of the organisms on it, and everything that surrounds it has not changed or been altered since the flood is inaccurate. Biogeography for example shows that "closely allied" species have a tendency to live on the "same continent... or within the same group of oceanic islands... despite their species–by–species preferences for different habitats, food source, [and] of conditions of climate" (Quammen 4). The explanation for this is that "they descended from common ancestors" and this can be verified with the paleontology flaw because that flaw deals with the fossils of plants and animals "that had [either] become extinct or that still existed but in different forms" which indicates not only that organisms have changed over time, but also provides evidence that "closely allied" organism have lived in the same areas of centuries (Quammen 4; Parks 24). Then in the taxonomic classification flaw these "closely allied" spices can be "systematically classified, according to their shared similarities" which, suggests that "closely allied" organisms descended from common ancestor because of the traits and similar organs that allows this type of classification (Quammen 5). The presence of these similar traits and organs introduces the flaw of vestigial characteristics because although some of these do not have any current Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Creationism vs. Evolution Essay Since the Age of the Enlightenment, the institution of religion has had to contend with the opposition of science regarding the issues of the origins of the world and of the human species. Up until around the end of the 17th century, the church was the authority on how the world and everything in it had come to be. However, with the great intellectual revolution came thinkers such as Galileo, Copernicus, Bacon, Descartes, and many others who challenged the biblical assumptions with empirically deduced scientific theories. The Catholic Church had a nasty habit of persecuting such ideological dissent toward creationism, calling it heresy and thereby somewhat suppressing a complete upheaval of the Scriptures. For many centuries to come, ...show more content... The representatives of the ACLU were willing to defend any person willing to face trial for teaching the subject in schools in order to contest the law and bring its nature into the national limelight. The town leaders of Dayton obliged, being glad for the opportunity of some publicity. William Jennings Bryan represented the State of Tennessee and staked his claim saying that the State of Tennessee "has already held that this act is constitutional, it being the law of the land, there is but one issue before this court and jury, and that is, did the defendant violate the statute" (Bryan). Bryan felt that the defense had no case because the trial was not to debate the constitutionality of a law, but to prove that said law was broken. The prosecution discovered that they needed to argue the irrationality of teaching evolution and claimed that it was only a mysterious theory and could not possibly have expert testimonies. The prosecution also argued that because science was the enabler of modern warfare, it was also a source of evil; evil should not be taught in schools. Bryan said that no teacher had the right either, to cause ideological conflict within the home by influencing a child with theories contrary to their parentally instilled religious background Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Creationism Vs. Evolution Where do we come from? The creation of the world has been told through many different stories, and from a variety of religions across the world. The argument between evolution and creation has been debated back and forth for years. So how do we know which claim is correct? Has all life evolved from simple bacteria to all the species that appear today, or did life on earth begin with God's creation of Adam from dust and his partner Eve from adam's rib bone. As a child I grew up attending church every Sunday with my grandparents, attending bible school, and taught the ways of the Lord. I wouldn't know any different until my eyes were opened in biology class where the theory of Evolution is justified. There are different explanations to...show more content... This occurs when a species is separated and mate with a different species, changing their genetic composition, if then the two species were to be brought back together and mate again, it would cause what is called 'gene migration'. This process gives so many different variations among the species, which allows more and more variation and population. This process also explains endangered species and extinction. The main controversy creationist have with accepting the theories of evolution is how all different life forms were produced using genetic material that was present and reproduced from the first living cells. Yet this claim has not fully been proved correct, scientific discoveries and theories have given it great justice so far. Aside from genetic variation, crossbreeding, survival of the fittest etc. Such drastic changes from species to species are due to mutations. In most eyes, mutations are considered to be harmful and destructive. Which is true in some cases, but they are also beneficial in the case of genetics and evolution. Many helpful mutations are incorporated into the normal genotype through natural selection, and when harmful mutations do occur the process of natural selection kills that mutation off. Without randomly occurring mutations, there would have been no development of life and no evolution would have taken place. Many religious people in fact Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Evolution Vs. Creationism Essay Evolution vs. Creationism Abstract In the history of science vs. religion there have been no issues more intensely debated than evolution vs. creationism. The issue is passionately debated since the majority of evidence is in favor of evolution, but the creation point of view can never be proved wrong because of religious belief. Human creation breaks down into three simple beliefs; creation theory, naturalistic evolution theory, and theistic evolution theory. The complexities of all three sides create a dilemma for what theory to support among all people, religious and non–religious. Evolution vs. Creationism The theories of human evolution may always cause a heated dispute. Each theory presents its own evidence proving...show more content... Until science proves its naturalistic theory correct, the world will have to choose between the three theories based on personal beliefs, religious values, and scientific information. The creation theory includes over 500 different creation stories based on numerous religions (Religious Tolerance, 2004). The vast number of stories creates strains on which evolution story is accurate. Christians that are creationists take the bible literally and believe the earth is around 10,000 years old. Religious tolerance states that the acceptance of evolution would make people interpret Genesis symbolically and classify evolution stories as myths. Since the creation stories are closely tied to the fall of man and to original sin, the entire role of Jesus would change. Without original sin, there would be no need for a savior, and Christianity would change drastically. This further proves that the creation theory will live as long as religion. The Gallup Organization studies what percentages of Americans believe in each of

  • 18. Creationism Vs Evolution In order to teach about the earliest man in a nonbiased way, I believe that public schools should not shelter students from either side. It would be a bit unfair to only show one side of the subject matter. I think it would be good to expose students to a perspective they're not used to; they would be able to have even more knowledge on evolution and creationism. It's a very debatable topic, but students should understand that neither standpoint can be considered factually correct. Teaching both topics as theories would be the ideal way to approach it. A majority of Americans are not familiar with Creationism, which is why I think it would be practical to teach both theories. On the other hand, evolution is a concept that many people are familiar Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Creationism Vs. Evolution Essay The theory of evolution, as set forth by Charles Darwin in 1859, stated that all plant and animal life evolved over long periods of time from simple to more complicated forms through mutation and adaptation. He also taught that only the fittest of each species would survive. He further postulated that the first living cell evolved in a "warm warm little pond" and that it took billions of years for the present diversity of living things to evolve. At the time, it was thought that the few "missing links" in the fossil record would be soon filled.(Darwin, 1927 ). Today, however, there is today a considerable body of scientific evidence that refutes this entire theory. The findings of the last 50 years both deny the possibility of...show more content... Mendel's Laws explain most of the physical variations observed in living things. Genes, the genetic units of heredity, are merely reshuffled from one generation to another, but new genes are never formed. Different combinations create variations, but these variations are limited. Each cow, person, dog, etc. has variations, but the genetic units do not permit dog–people, or cow–dogs. Breeding experiments by competent biologists confirm that these boundaries exist.(Fix,1984). Since mutations are the only mechanism (according to Darwin) by which new genetic material becomes available, then mutations must have occurred regularly to have spawned all our present life forms, and further, mutation must consistently go from simple to complex to have gotten us out of the primordial ooze. However, many noted biologists, including C.P. Martin and Theodosius Dobzhansky (who mutated the fruit fly), consistently report that mutation does produce hereditary changes, but "invariably affect it (the organism) adversely."(Salisbury, 1969). All animals are born with complex organs (the human brain has over a hundred thousand billion electrical connections), and further, all animals are born with fully developed organs. • 20. Evolution vs. Creationism Essay Evolution vs. Creationism The Evolution vs. Creationism controversy goes all the way back to the Publishing of Origin of Species in 1859 by Darwin laying the foundation for the evolution of life to be understood. Scientists are continuously finding more evidence to support Darwin's conclusion; that organisms descended from a common ancestor modified by the mechanism of natural selection resulting in the evolution of species adapting to their environment. The following are the main geological topics concerning creationism: radiometric dating, transitional forms and the Cambrian explosion. Creationism is nothing more than a child's fairytale that lacks any scientific proof. The aspect of radiometric dating is controversial to most...show more content... Plus or minus a couple million years has a negligible effect on the results attempting to be obtained. Radiometric dating consistently prove from analysis of bolide fragments that the earth is about 4.6 billion years old and once again disproving the Bible's 6,000 years. The problem for creationism is that they can't prove there 'fairytale' correct because it's based on little fact, so they attempt to make the other valid ideas sound ridiculous. Therefore, creationism attempts to prove radiometric dating incorrect and is nothing more than a feeble attempt to bring credibility to there own ideas and beliefs. Secondly, a once thought problem with evolution was the lack of transitional phases in the fossil record. For example it was once thought there were no transitional phases between birds and reptiles; this has now been proven false by paleontologists. Archaeopteryx has distinctive avian characteristics including a wishbone, a bony sternum and feathers (Geology). Several of its reptilian characteristics include unfused metacarpal bones, a long bony tail and three well developed fingers. What is also interesting is that archaeopteryx lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. Again, it seems as if creationists randomly start making assumptions in an attempt to slander other valid theories rather than proving there's correct (even thought that's impossible). "If evolution were true, there would be more transitional Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Evolution Creationism Vs. Creationism Any point of contact with the scientific world in the 21st century will eventually lead one to the one of the most hotly contested topic in American education, that of evolution versus creationism. While the creationist point of view, as well as the evolutionary perspective, hosts a great variation of opinion amongst its supporters, Christianity is brought to the center stage time after time (Vuletic, 1994). Literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis' account of creation falls contrary to the claims of the evolutionary paradigm (Vuletic, 1994). This then refutes the theory for some as 'atheistic', while many continue to claim the inability of science to explain metaphysical issues such as the existence of a deity, thus reconciling both perspectives (Vuletic, 1994). It is redundant then, to continue arguing in circles of the proof either side has for its claims. One must extrapolate other means of analyzing the situation. One such perspective is to focus not on what 'is' or 'is not' the reality of things, but rather what it 'means' to people. Just as the Christian scriptures encourage a popular point of view, so does the Darwinian Theory. As scientific Darwinism is a body of theory which claims, on Darwin's premises with important modern adjustments, of all life evolving from simple organisms to various and complex species witnessed in the biosphere, a specific interpretation of this theory, which some refer to as 'comprehensive Darwinism', extrapolates it to account for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
