Sofine Heilskov has worked on a Danish-Ugandan research project studying severely malnourished children in Uganda since 2012. She has played an important role in planning, coordination, and data collection for the project. Additionally, Sofine independently conducted a parallel study focusing on the dermatological changes in severely malnourished children, aiming to develop a scoring system to grade the severity of skin conditions. This could serve as a clinical tool for health workers to assess malnutrition severity and characteristics in resource-constrained settings. Hanifa Namusoke recommends Sofine for her work on these studies in Uganda and looks forward to benefiting from her contributions.
1. Letter of recommandantion
Sofine Heilskov
With this letter, I wish to receommend Ms. Sofine Heilskow. Since
October 2012, Sofine has worked for the Danish-Ugandan research
project, ”FeedSAM – Re-feeding of Children with Severe Acute
Malnutrition at Mwanamugimu Nutrition Unit”. The project is a
cooperation between researchers in nutrition from the Department
of Human Nutrition, Copenhagen University and experts in
nutrition from Department of Peadiatrics at the National Referral
Hospital ─ Mulago, in Kampala, Uganda. The project is a
longitudinal observational study in the physiology and
development of severely malnurished children. The resarch will
inform treatment of malnutrition in order to increase survival of
the malnourished.
Sofine has both played an important role in the daily planning and
coordination of the clinical work and in the practical work with
collecting data since start. During her stay, she has independently
worked out a parrallel study, focusing on the dermatological
changes of severely acute malnurished children ─ “a Study of
Dermatosis in Children with Severe Acute Malnutrition in
Uganda”. Dermatosis has not yet been systematically described in
scientific litterature. The sub-study is desined to work out a scoring
system to grade the severety of the dermatosis. This can work as a
clinical tool for health workers when assesing the severity and
characteristics of acute malnutrition ─ an easy accesable option
for resource constrained settings ─ thus, easing diagnose and
consequnetly treatment.
We look forward to gain from her work in Uganda, thus, have no
reservations in receommending her in her pursuit for supporting
resources.
Thank you
