HEC Paris was founded in 1881 by the Paris
Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is one of
the oldest and most prestigious Grandes Ecoles
in France. This unique concept was introduced by
Napoleon so that “the best and the brightest” could
be channeled into his armies and engineering
corps. The selection criteria for the Grandes
Ecoles are based primarily on competitive written
and oral exams, taken by students from dedicated
preparatory classes.
Throughout its 130-year history, HEC Paris has
continually attracted highly talented, innovative,
entrepreneurial, ambitious and open minded
individuals. HEC Paris has consistently developed
a wide and unique range of programs that cater
for both 20-year-old students and international
senior executives in France and worldwide.

Our mission at HEC Paris is to develop
the global leaders of tomorrow, capable
of serving as architects of a responsible
world. A rigorous research environment
and close connections to the corporate
world are the cornerstones on which this
mission is built. The combination of high
quality research, pedagogical innovation
and strong corporate connections
provides the HEC community with the
necessary tools and background to
challenge established rules and invent
the new social and economic paradigms
of tomorrow’s world.
To accomplish this mission HEC Paris
relies on three intrinsic core values:
• Pursuing excellence in everything that
we undertake
• Using knowledge as a vehicle to fight
sectarianism and ideology
• Participating as a major player in the
construction of a responsible world
These values form the basis of a deep-
seated belief that we share with the
HEC Community: the freedom and
entrepreneurship we need to create a
better world stem from knowledge. This
conviction is embodied in our motto
“The more you know, the more you
dare”.

Students from all backgrounds benefit from our long tradition of academic excellence.

transform exceptional potential into exceptional success.
The HEC Paris journey is based on:
• A rigorous admission process to recruit the best students from leading institutions
all over the world
• A perfect balance between theory and practice. The knowledge we share is based
on cutting-edge research in all fields of management science. It is tested in real-
world contexts, is constantly updated and is fully aligned to the expectations of the
business world
• Extremely close relations with the corporate world that provide our students with
thousands of opportunities throughout the year: international jobs fairs, professional
workshops, mentoring with Alumni, conferences with prestigious guest speakers
and CEOs, business games and academic awards sponsored by leading international
companies
• Strong development of leadership and entrepreneurial skills among our students
• A pronounced international outlook thanks to our multi-national campus, numerous

GRAnDe eCole mAsTeR’s PRoGRAms
For more than a century, our history of academic excellence and selectivity has enabled
us to train inspired and responsible leaders, capable of anticipating changes in the
world and leading them.
HEC Paris has developed a range of Grande Ecole Master’s programs which recruit
both local and international students by means of a rigorous admission process:
• Master in Management (taught in English or French)
• Master in Management & Public affairs (taught in English and German)
• Master in Management & business law (taught in French or English and French)
The Grande Ecole curriculum is divided into a generalist phase and a specialization
phase. The first phase concentrates on business fundamentals, while the second one
focuses on acquiring an expertise (chosen according to the professional goals of the
student). The nature of the specialization determines the Master’s degree that the
student will finally receive: Management, Management & Business Law, Management
and Public Affairs...
The unique structure of the curriculum enables students to acquire both an excellent
grounding in general management and expertise in a specific field. We firmly believe
this combination is the key success factor in training future leaders and making a
lasting impact on the careers of our students.
Many specializations are offered not only on campus but also through a wide range
of international Double Degrees, including the CEMS joint Degree, the MIT, Tsinghua,
FGV and Freie University of Berlin.
The Grande Ecole programs also offer numerous international opportunities through
exchanges on all continents.

The mission of the PhD Program at HEC Paris is to train outstanding researchers in the
major areas of management and enhance the reputation of HEC Paris as one of the best
business schools in the world. Founded in 1975, the PhD Program really took off in 1985,
when HEC Paris was accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research to
deliver the ‘Doctorate in Management Science’ degree. The PhD Program at HEC Paris offers
seven specializations in the main fields of management: Accounting & Management Control,
Decision Sciences, Finance, Organizations & Human Resources, Marketing, Operations
Management and Strategy & Management. Every year, 1 to 4 students in each field join the
HEC Paris PhD Program after very stringent selection procedures. They learn how to become
an academic in one of the world’s leading Business Schools. The first year is entirely dedicated
to PhD level courses, with further courses and training in the second year. The subsequent
years are dedicated to research work on the dissertation. Doctoral students benefit from
intensive supervision by HEC Paris faculty for their research, and often carry out joint research
projects with faculty members. Professors are also closely involved in the preparation of the
academic job market. 90% of our PhD graduates find academic positions all over the world,
typically in highly respected institutions of research and higher education.

Research
HECParisisrecognizedasoneofthetopEuropean
research institutions where new knowledge in
economics and management science is created.
Research at HEC Paris strives for both scientific
excellence and business relevance.
ThisisHECParis28
The 110 members of our permanent faculty, who originate from 29 different countries,
work on internationally acclaimed research in all the major fields of management
science. This reflects the diversity of thought and culture, the open-mindedness and
the rigorous intellectual standards promoted at HEC Paris.
The research faculty is reinforced by affiliate professors who share their academic
and professional expertise with HEC Paris students and program participants. Among
our affiliate professors we find, for example, Pascal Lamy, former Director-General
of the World Trade Organization, or Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister
of France. HEC Paris also regularly hosts visiting professors from prestigious
universities who teach and carry out research with HEC professors.
HEC Paris has an active and highly selective recruitment policy. Our goal is to
recruit faculty of the highest caliber, trained in the best PhD programs around the
world. They combine excellent teaching skills with the highest standards in terms of
academic research. During the 2012-2013 academic year, HEC Paris had the honor
of welcoming 9 new professors, hired from leading universities worldwide (MIT,
LBS, New York University, Insead, etc). These new professors further enhance our
courses and programs through their outstanding research work, in depth knowledge
of management issues and original teaching materials. They also contribute to the
progress of management practice through their interaction with the business world.
For more than 20 years, HEC Paris has bestowed Honoris Causa Professorships
on researchers who have significantly and durably influenced their fields.
Almost 40 Honoris Causa professors from all over the world are now part of the
HEC community. They include Nobel Prize winners such as Oliver Williamson,
Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, Thomas J. Sargent and Muhammad Yunus, world famous
academics such as Michael Porter and Jim March, professors from the Collège de
France like Antoine Compagnon, and members of the Académie Française such as
Hélène Carrère d’Encausse.
ACADemiC innoVATion
Academic innovation at HEC Paris has two main focal points:
• Teaching materials
Each year the HEC Foundation allocates funds to innovative educational projects.
A collection of HEC business cases has been created with the support of the CCMP
(the Paris Chamber of Commerce case center). These HEC cases are used in top
universities and business schools around the world. The faculty also design and
develop a wide range of business games and simulations.
• Technological innovation
HEC Paris was the first Business School in France to launch a Massive Open Online Course
(MOOC) available on the Coursera platform, which provides students and practitioners
across the globe the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of HEC Paris faculty.
HEC Paris is also part of ‘FUN’, the MOOC platform launched by the French ministry of
higher education. Additionally HEC Paris has published 500 free academic resources
on iTunes U. Our professors use new tools such as interactive tablets, e-books and
social media, to enhance students learning and optimize interactivity in the classroom.

Research is one of the main activities carried out in world-class business schools.
HEC Paris’ academic reputation is determined, to a great extent, by the quality and
relevance of the knowledge developed by its faculty. Business schools with outstanding
reputations attract the finest minds, both in terms of students and faculty.
In the global battle to attract the finest talent, HEC Paris has firmly established its
position as a leader and this is reflected in international rankings. During the past
few years, the Financial Times has consistently ranked HEC Paris among the top five
European business schools for the quality of its research. HEC Paris’ prominence in
research was made possible through major investments, supported by the Paris Ile
de France Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the HEC Foundation, as well as
through a constant effort to recruit researchers from the best universities worldwide.
HEC Paris’ research benefits from its close collaboration with France’s government
supported National Science Foundation (CNRS), which sponsors GREGHEC, a
joint research unit based on the HEC Paris campus. Within GREGHEC, five CNRS
researchers collaborate with members of the HEC Paris faculty. The association with
CNRS gives HEC Paris greater visibility in the French academic community and easier
access to national research funds. France’s evaluation agency for higher education
and research (AERES) awarded GREGHEC an A+ grade for the quality of its research,
which is the highest distinction possible.
HEC Paris has formed a number of research partnerships with renowned French
institutions. In 2012, a consortium agreement was signed with Ecole Polytechnique
and ENSAE to launch the Labex Ecodec research initiative (Economics and Decision
Sciences: Regulating economy for the benefit of society). HEC Paris joined the Equipex
CASD research consortium (secure remote access to data) which also includes
ENSAE, Ecole Polytechnique, ENS Cachan, Quetelet Network, and INSEE. HEC Paris
is a founding member of the new Paris-Saclay University which brings together 23
elite establishments and is the largest academic institution in France.

Working hand in hand with the HEC Alumni
Association and the HEC Foundation, HEC Paris
maintains close relationships with the business
world. This cooperation can take many forms
and is tailored to companies’ areas of activity, as
well as their research and recruitment needs.
HEC Paris is a central partner to numerous
prestigious multinationals which support HEC’s
ambitions, participate in its strategic orientation,
and provide a direct link between the academic
and business worlds.
HEC Paris strongly believes that the businesses
of tomorrow will be different from those of today.
They will be key players in social progress, run
by leaders who understand the changes in society
and know how to initiate and fundamentally
transform their business models.
Corporate
Relations
ThisisHECParis34
The Corporate Relations Department offers its extensive expertise to both
international and national recruiters and students.
It aims to provide the best possible business opportunities to all students and
young graduates. This includes up-to-date job & internship opportunities,
company presentations, seminars, conferences, round tables, mock interviews
with recruiters, meetings with alumni and job/internship events throughout the
year. This objective forms an integral part of HEC Paris’ policy to respond to
company needs in providing candidates who are intellectually mature and prepared
for the corporate world. Throughout the year, several career fairs are organized
on campus such as Carrefours HEC - the main career fair - as well as others
dedicated to Alumni, International Finance, Internships, International Consulting,
and Legal & Fiscal Career opportunities.
HEC Paris’ Corporate Relations Department is also committed to building
partnerships with companies. This cooperation can take many forms and is tailored
to companies’ areas of activity, as well as their research and recruitment needs.
At HEC Paris, companies find what they are looking for: interns, young graduates,
MBA graduates, executive education programs and professors to work with on
research or teaching projects. Drawing on this positive experience, some of them
decide to support HEC’s development and become HEC corporate partners.
HEC Paris co-organizes international trips with students to meet with alumni
and HR teams. Having such a diverse student body and alumni network, we
annually make Treks across the globe to allow our students to discover some of
the corporations they’d like to work with, as well as present them with extensive
networking opportunities within a specific industry or country.
ThisisHECParis35
Sharing is fundamental, and at HEC Paris we endorse this by
organizing regular meetings between our students and heads
of businesses. This provides an opportunity for our students to
hear stories of success -and sometimes failure!-, to find out
about the reality of the business world and to be given the keys
to best unlock their professional future. Over the past year, our
students have had the opportunity to meet with many influential
figures from the world of business, including: Jean Paul Agon,
CEO of L’Oréal; Léo Apotheker, Former CEO of Hewlett Packard;
Bernard Bourigeaud, Former CEO of Atos Origin; Virginie
Calmels, President of Euro Disney; Pierre-André de Chalendar,
CEO of Saint-Gobain group; Jean Hornain, CEO of Le Parisien
and Aujourd’hui en France; Marc Onetto, Senior Vice President
of Worldwide Operations at Amazon.com Inc; Jean-Pierre Petit,
CEO of McDonald’s France; Xavier Romatet, CEO of Condé Nast;
Dan Serfaty, Founding President of Viadeo; Jean-Claude Trichet,

Founded in 1972 and recognized as a charity in 1973, the HEC Foundation’s mission
is to support management sciences in France, notably through the development of
HEC Paris.
The activity of the HEC Foundation, chaired by Daniel Bernard, has accelerated
exponentially in recent years due to the growing needs of HEC Paris in terms of
research and pedagogical innovation, in a context of strong global competition between
business schools.
In 2008, the HEC Foundation launched its first fundraising campaign with the
objective of raising €100 million by 2013. tHECampaign 2008-2013 in fact raised
€112 million, 57% coming from alumni donors and friends of HEC Paris and 43%
from partner companies.
A human story…
Donations and pledges were made by 7,500 donors, 144 major donors and
70 companies. More than 80 volunteers and 9 dedicated staff members also took
part in this campaign.
... laying the basis...
The HEC Foundation contributes to 8% of the school’s development budget while
building up a sustainable endowment that amounted to 31 million euros at the end
of 2013.
... of an academic project.
Thanks to this campaign, 342 PhD students received free scholarships, 60 research
projects were financed and more than 15 Chairs and Teaching or Research Centers
were funded. To make an HEC Paris education available to the best and brightest
students, the HEC Foundation provided financial support to for more than 1,000
Master’s students and 648 MBA students.

Every graduation from an HEC Paris program marks the beginning of a new adventure,
and one in which the HEC Alumni Network will play a key role. The values of friendship,
openness and solidarity that have bound each class together during the days at
HEC will live on and continue to develop through HEC Alumni.
The Alumni Association, chaired by Mireille Faugère, has a long tradition of
accompanying HEC Paris and serving its alumni. The network is a valuable source of
inspiration and energy and supports graduates with strength and conviction in all their
future endeavors.
HEC Paris has also produced more alumni in CEO positions within Fortune Global
500 companies than any other European business school, as stated by The Times
Higher Education Alma Mater Index 2013. This ranking is a clear illustration of our
ability to shape the business leaders of tomorrow.
HeC Alumni CommiTmenTs
Founded in 1883, HEC Alumni has three main missions:
• coordinating the influential, friendly and professional network
• supporting HEC graduates throughout their professional path
• promoting HEC Paris in France and throughout the world by organizing events on
relevant economic, social and intellectual issues that enrich graduates’ knowledge
from both a personal and professional perspective.
keY FiGuRes
• A powerful network: 50,000 graduates (with 8,000 alumni abroad and 107 nationalities)
• An inclusive network: 1,100 experienced HEC mentors, 2,400 HEC graduates
mentored since the start of the program in 2010 and over 40,000 job offers shared
every year (including offers on the “hidden market”)
• A dynamic network: over 1,000 events are held all over the world every year by the
48 professional groups (organized by major business sector or profession). This
reflects the wide diversity of profiles and careers among HEC alumni. There are 75
international chapters, 28 regional groups across France, 25 leisure clubs and 270
year groups. They are all coordinated by over 800 committed volunteers, without
whom none of this would be possible.

Europe with all the academic, leisure and sports
facilities that you would expect from a world-
class institution. HEC Paris has also facilities in
Doha in Qatar.
The campus hosts 4,000 students of around

experience. Located close to Paris and Versailles,
the 340 acre wooded campus is also close to
“La Défense”, the largest business district in
Europe where many multinational companies

This unique concept was introduced by Napoleon so that “the best and the brightest” could be channeled into his armies and engineering corps. Throughout its 130-year history, HEC Paris has continually attracted highly talented, innovative, entrepreneurial, ambitious and open minded individuals. HEC Paris has consistently developed a wide and unique range of programs that cater for both 20-year-old students and international senior executives in France and worldwide. “École des Hautes Études Commerciales” (HEC Business School) is founded. The new campus was the culmination of a long line of reforms that aimed to bring HEC Paris closer to the American business school model, and to adapt the training of future leaders to an increasingly competitive and international environment. HEC Paris has developed a range of Grande Ecole Master’s programs which recruit both local and international students by means of a rigorous admission process: • Master in Management (taught in English or French) • Master in Management & Public affairs (taught in English and German) • Master in Management & business law (taught in French or English and French) The Grande Ecole curriculum is divided into a generalist phase and a specialization phase. The first phase concentrates on business fundamentals, while the second one focuses on acquiring an expertise (chosen according to the professional goals of the student). The nature of the specialization determines the Master’s degree that the student will finally receive: Management, Management & Business Law, Management and Public Affairs... The unique structure of the curriculum enables students to acquire both an excellent grounding in general management and expertise in a specific field. We firmly believe this combination is the key success factor in training future leaders and making a lasting impact on the careers of our students. Many specializations are offered not only on campus but also through a wide range of international Double Degrees, including the CEMS joint Degree, the MIT, Tsinghua, FGV and Freie University of Berlin. The Grande Ecole programs also offer numerous international opportunities through exchanges on all continents. 18 months (English & French Tracks) Full-time generalist program 600 graduates per year HEC’s Master in Management program ranked #4 worldwide by the Financial Times in 2013 and #1 in France in all national rankings HeC PARis PRe-exPeRienCe PRoGRAms madonna GeRBeR 2011 MS DMI graduate At HEC Paris, I had the right environment to achieve my full potential and reach all my professional goals. “ ”

  • 30. ThisisHECParis30 Research is one of the main activities carried out in world-class business schools. HEC Paris’ academic reputation is determined, to a great extent, by the quality and relevance of the knowledge developed by its faculty. Business schools with outstanding reputations attract the finest minds, both in terms of students and faculty. In the global battle to attract the finest talent, HEC Paris has firmly established its position as a leader and this is reflected in international rankings. During the past few years, the Financial Times has consistently ranked HEC Paris among the top five European business schools for the quality of its research. HEC Paris’ prominence in research was made possible through major investments, supported by the Paris Ile de France Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the HEC Foundation, as well as through a constant effort to recruit researchers from the best universities worldwide. HEC Paris’ research benefits from its close collaboration with France’s government supported National Science Foundation (CNRS), which sponsors GREGHEC, a joint research unit based on the HEC Paris campus. Within GREGHEC, five CNRS researchers collaborate with members of the HEC Paris faculty. The association with CNRS gives HEC Paris greater visibility in the French academic community and easier access to national research funds. France’s evaluation agency for higher education and research (AERES) awarded GREGHEC an A+ grade for the quality of its research, which is the highest distinction possible. HEC Paris has formed a number of research partnerships with renowned French institutions. In 2012, a consortium agreement was signed with Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE to launch the Labex Ecodec research initiative (Economics and Decision Sciences: Regulating economy for the benefit of society). They will be key players in social progress, run by leaders who understand the changes in society and know how to initiate and fundamentally transform their business models. Corporate Relations
  • 34. ThisisHECParis34 The Corporate Relations Department offers its extensive expertise to both international and national recruiters and students. It aims to provide the best possible business opportunities to all students and young graduates. This includes up-to-date job & internship opportunities, company presentations, seminars, conferences, round tables, mock interviews with recruiters, meetings with alumni and job/internship events throughout the year. This objective forms an integral part of HEC Paris’ policy to respond to company needs in providing candidates who are intellectually mature and prepared for the corporate world. Throughout the year, several career fairs are organized on campus such as Carrefours HEC - the main career fair - as well as others dedicated to Alumni, International Finance, Internships, International Consulting, and Legal & Fiscal Career opportunities. HEC Paris’ Corporate Relations Department is also committed to building partnerships with companies. This cooperation can take many forms and is tailored to companies’ areas of activity, as well as their research and recruitment needs. At HEC Paris, companies find what they are looking for: interns, young graduates, MBA graduates, executive education programs and professors to work with on research or teaching projects. Drawing on this positive experience, some of them decide to support HEC’s development and become HEC corporate partners. HEC Paris co-organizes international trips with students to meet with alumni and HR teams. Having such a diverse student body and alumni network, we annually make Treks across the globe to allow our students to discover some of the corporations they’d like to work with, as well as present them with extensive networking opportunities within a specific industry or country.

The values of friendship, openness and solidarity that have bound each class together during the days at HEC will live on and continue to develop through HEC Alumni. The Alumni Association, chaired by Mireille Faugère, has a long tradition of accompanying HEC Paris and serving its alumni. The network is a valuable source of inspiration and energy and supports graduates with strength and conviction in all their future endeavors. HEC Paris has also produced more alumni in CEO positions within Fortune Global 500 companies than any other European business school, as stated by The Times Higher Education Alma Mater Index 2013. HeC Alumni CommiTmenTs Founded in 1883, HEC Alumni has three main missions: • coordinating the influential, friendly and professional network • supporting HEC graduates throughout their professional path • promoting HEC Paris in France and throughout the world by organizing events on relevant economic, social and intellectual issues that enrich graduates’ knowledge from both a personal and professional perspective. keY FiGuRes • A powerful network: 50,000 graduates (with 8,000 alumni abroad and 107 nationalities) • An inclusive network: 1,100 experienced HEC mentors, 2,400 HEC graduates mentored since the start of the program in 2010 and over 40,000 job offers shared every year (including offers on the “hidden market”) • A dynamic network: over 1,000 events are held all over the world every year by the 48 professional groups (organized by major business sector or profession). This reflects the wide diversity of profiles and careers among HEC alumni. There are 75 international chapters, 28 regional groups across France, 25 leisure clubs and 270 year groups.
