BOSCOV’S AND CRADLES TO CRAYONS
FIGHT CHILD POVERTY IN THE PHILADELPHIAAREA
Help get local homeless and low-income children ready for school
Philadelphia, PA Boscov’s is teaming with Cradles to Crayons, a local nonprofit, on September 15
to fight the rising poverty rate through a one-day Back to School event.
From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Cradles to Crayons will accept donations of new school supplies, along
with new and nearly news clothes, shoes, books, toys, baby equipment, and new baby hygiene items at
Boscov’s in the Exton Square Mall, located at126 Exton Square, Routes 30 & 100, in Exton. There will also
be arts and crafts for kids, food, raffles, and free samples from TCBY and Chick-fil-A.
Donations received at this event will be used to help homeless and low-income children in Bucks,
Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. According the U.S. Census Bureau,
Philadelphia has the highest poverty rate among the nation’s ten largest cities. Philadelphia’s child poverty
rate is at the highest it has been in 50 years, with an estimated one in five children living in poverty.
A National Retail Federation survey found that the average American family spent over $600 in 2011
on school supplies. When families are struggling to put food on their tables, buying school supplies for their
children is a luxury they just can’t afford. Cradles to Crayons provides these essential items so that children
in this area have the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school, and at play.
