A degree from Harvard University is a pretty special thing. First, it very tough to get into Harvard; second, the academic program is tough. Most Harvard grads go on to graduate or professional programs. That was Conan O’Brien’s plan. He majored in American history and had decided to get a Ph.D. in this field and teach. By the time he was a senior, however, he had changed his mind. He got that magna cum laude degree but went into comedy writing instead. He’s pretty happy he made that big change in plans. And as you can see from this Infographic, he was not the only one. We thought it was very interesting that there are celebrities today and in the past who did not choose to use their Harvard degrees – they changed their plans and became famous in the entertainment world. Their hobbies became their careers. Do you have a hobby that you love? You may end up like Conan O’Brien, or Tommy Lee Jones, or B.J. Novak, or Rashida Jones – turning that hobby into a career. We think it’s important that everyone follow their passions, even though those passions mean a change of plans. Keep an open mind!
