2. Aims
Based on reasons of Obsolescence
including Climate Change -
1. Assess current systems and processes of
maintenance of bridges in Wales;
2. Seek innovative approaches for enhancement
and contemporization.
3. Objectives
1. Establish reasons of obsolescence – both
conventional and contemporary.
2. Establish contacts with bridges maintenance
companies to study their current practices.
3. Map the established reasons (in 1) on current
practices (in 2) to identify how effectively
obsolescence reasons have been addressed.
4. Based on degree to which obsolescence reasons
are covered in current practices, recommend
enhancement approaches.
4. Research Methods
Two activities will be carried out
particularly in parallel. These are:
1. Literature review to establish obsolescence
reasons (conventional and contemporary) also
the state of the art of bridges maintenance;
2. Approach Bridges maintenance organizations
(public and/or private sector), where semi-
structured interviews will be held with the
maintenance engineers.
