American Dreams for International Teens - MT Parents article March 2015

Each year thousands of brave international teens make the journey to the United
States to experience life in an American family while attending a local high
school. Southwest Montana is lucky to have an incredible group of students in
our communities this year. As they lovingly welcome international students, host
families learn from the exchange students’ unique world perspective and appreciate
Montana anew as they share the magic this place has to offer. With only a few
months remaining, some of the students reflect on their time here so far.
“Being an exchange student is a super exciting thing. It gives you a lot and you
become really thankful for everything people did for you. The host family is probably
the biggest part of that. It is important to get along. In my experience it can be hard
sometimes, when you fight or argue, but you just have to figure out a way to become a
family. My host family always did a great job with that and I am really thankful. I love
the mountains and all the nature you can see here in Montana.” – Lisa from Germany
“I love Bozeman because of the amazing nature and people. This place is so beautiful,
and I am amazed every day by the incredible mountains. The nature also offers a lot of
outdoor activities, which I love. The people here are so open and welcoming, I’ve made
friends for life and they have made my exchange year great so far. I’m so happy I’m
here and having this adventure!” -Elise from Norway
“Being an exchange student completely changed my life. Meeting new people that are
born and raised in a completely different situation from mine made me appreciate my
country more and the little things that make everyone different. I remember when I
first got here my host family did a lot of outdoor activities with me to help me enjoy
more of Montana. I loved that.” - Beatrice from Italy
