2. Daan is an offering to God. Whenever a Dhaan is made one
must thing as an offering to GOD.
Firstly, "Daan" is the original word in Sanskrit for donation
meaning selfless giving. In the list of the ten Niyamas
(virtuous acts), Daan comes third.
In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna declares, annad bhavanti
bhutani which means, “ From food all begins are evolved”.
Varaha Purana says, “One who gives food, gives all that is
worth giving in this world”.
3. Many slokas indicate the importance of the
annadanam.
gajathuragasahasram gokulam kotidhaanam
kanakarajitha paathram medhinee
saagarantham
ubhayakula visudham kotikanyaapradhaanam
nahi nahi bahudhaanam
annadhaanassamaanam
Say’s annadhaanam is greater than donating
many horses, elephants, gold ornaments,
vessels, land, kanyadhanam etc.

Food is the basic requirement for all humans. This according to
Vedas, the one who does Annadanam to devotees, attains
heaven (Punya Loka) in this Universe (Brahmanda) itself. In
this whole universe, the creation and its progession depends on
food. Hence giving food to devotees is more than attaining
heaven.
