Title: MCNP Model for High Performance Nuclear Reactor Fuel Elements for the System
Integrated Advanced Reactor (SMART).

Team Members: Shrouq Nasir Alfidawy, Majdi Ibrahim Radaideh.
Abstract: The feasibility of increasing the thermal conductivity of oxide fuel by adding small
fractions of high conductivity materials such as silicon carbide and beryllium oxide was
studied. MCNP and MCNPX models for the System-Integrated Advanced Reactor (SMART)
were built. New values of uranium enrichment to balance Neutronics and thermal hydraulics
performances were determined. In addition, burn-up analysis and cost calculations for this
type of fuel were carried out to determine the economic feasibility of using this type of fuel
and promising results were obtained.
