3. Government of as well as State Governments of
Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya
Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and West
Bengal have schemes to assist underprivileged
cancer patients. India Cancer treatment being an
expensive proposition, schemes of Central and State
Governments help in mitigating the financial burden
to a certain extent, supplementing affordable
treatment options and financial aid from NGOs. The
recently launched ‘Ayushman Bharat - National
Health Protection Scheme’ covering hospitalization
expenses to the extent of Rs 5 Lakh per family per
year will be of great benefit to poor citizens.
Through the welfare schemes it gave them better
quality of life and wellbeing

4. HEALTH MINISTER’S CANCER PATIENT FUND
Health minister’s cancer patient fund[ HMCPF] has been
setup for providing financial assistance to the poor patient
suffering from cancer. A Corpus fund of Rs.100 core has been
setup, which has been placed in fixed deposit. Interest
accrued thereon is utilized to provide the financial assistance.
It mainly focuses on the patients suffering from cancer and
living below poverty line, prescribe from time to time.
THE HEALTH MINISTER’S DISCRETIONARY GRANTS
The main benefit of this scheme is the financial assistance
towards treatment in government hospitals including super
specialty government hospitals/institutes, as per guidelines.
Budgetary provision are made to fund the HMDG scheme
AROGYA NIDHI
The financial assistance to a cancer patient up to Rs.2,00,000,
Rs 5,00,000/- in emergency cases, would be processed by the
RCC concerned, on whose disposal the revolving fund has
been placed.
5. PRIME MINISTER’S NATIONAL RELIEF FUND
Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) was
established entirely with public contributions and
does not get any budgetary support.
PMNRF accepts voluntary contributions from
Individuals, Organizations, Trusts, Companies and
Institutions etc. All contributions towards PMNRF are
exempt from Income Tax under section 80(G).The
resources of the PMNRF are utilized to render
immediate relief to families of those killed in natural
calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes, etc.
Assists partially to defray the expenses for medical
treatment like heart surgery, kidney transplantation,
cancer treatment of needy people and acid attack etc
