A Little History
The HPC, Robust Systems and Information Builders have been
in a joint public-private venture for the HPC Datamart –
Jaguar Project.
The first generation of the HPC datamart is serving the HPC
business user community very well.
We look forward to extending and taking advantage of the
WebFOCUS existing geo-spatial, mapping features and
WebFOCUS-ERIS integration.
Also, we look forward to the prospect of extending the GIS
services not only to internal staff but to field staff and
external customers as well.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
What is GIS and how can it help us?
• A Geographic Information System (GIS) generates digital map images to
link information about where things are with information about what
things are like. Simply put, a GIS combines layers of information about
a place to give you a better understanding of that place.
• Enables spatial and geographical aspect to existing data.
• While reports and spreadsheets are necessary and very useful, GIS
provides another way of viewing the same data in a way that reveals
patterns more easily. A GIS alone cannot replace tables or databases.
These are structures that power a GIS. The addition of a GIS map
enhances and quickens the transfer of knowledge.
• Information Builders and ESRI have teamed to deliver a Geographic
Business Intelligence Solution (GBIS) that combines the real-time
enterprise business intelligence and reporting capabilities of
WebFOCUS with ArcGIS Server. The combined solution allows users
throughout the extended enterprise to rapidly and intuitively analyze
real-time information with a spatial component by presenting business
intelligence information in the context of physical location.

Use Case 1 – Find Commercial Buildings With No CO
Certain commercial buildings require a Certificate of Occupancy (CO).
Let us find Finaled projects that had a 13 building permit that require a CO.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 1 – Find Commercial Buildings With No CO
Now lets find CO’s purchased in the same time period.
Notice the dots
with a yellow
triangle. Those
locations have
both. The
locations with only
a purple dot have
no CO purchased at
the same time.
If you hover over
the purple dot, it
will display
information
including the
project #.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 2 – WCR Applications
When Utility Analysis (UA) employees are processing applications for Water, Waste Water,
and Storm Water, they have to go to the GIMS map server to see the layers they need to
process the letter (i.e. where the applicant needs to hook up new water services, etc.).
Now we can display that on the map for them with the layers they need.
First we will run the WCR report to find Water applications that have been triaged, and
the customer paid the application fee.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 2 – WCR Applications
Pick a project number (copy). For this example we will pick 14074626.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 2 – WCR Applications
Now we clear the map. Reset the selections to ALL. Then paste the project # into the
project number box. Then map it.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 2 – WCR Applications
We want to turn on the Water layers. Go to the map and click on the “Map” icon. Select
“Live Maps”.
Click on the “Water_Public”, then select the layers you want to see. Then click on the X
in the top right corner of the box.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 2 – WCR Applications
Now you can see all of the water connection info that is needed for the application.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 3 – Compare New Projects to Remodel Projects
We want to find 13 permits for new construction, other building, active projects, and a zip code.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Use Case 3 – Compare New Projects to Remodel Projects
Next we want to find 13 permits for remodels for other buildings, active projects, and a zip.
City of Houston Public Works – GIS POC
Why Do We Want This?
• Streamline plan review process utilizing GIS mapping.
• Leverage the GIS features of ProjectDox.
• Augment existing research processes such as TORA requests.
• Leverage and consolidate existing mapping services.
• Leverage the existing permit information.
• Analyze existing construction trends geographically.
• Enhance the field inspection staff’s access to review his/her
scheduled inspections against a common map source.
• Enhance the office staff’s access to reference permitting data
against a common map source.
• Analyze and review investigations geographically.
• Meet emerging business needs such as geo-fencing.
• The City already has the license for this WebFOCUS interface.

Can I Play With This Application?
Yes. You can click on this link:
http://75.148.137.165:8080/ibi_apps/Controller?WORP_REQUEST_TYPE=WORP_
PUBLIC_LOGIN&WORP_MPV=af_mpv&
Requirements:
1.Internet Explorer 8 or higher.
2.If using IE 10 or higher, you have to run using Compatibility Mode.
3.You have to have Adobe Flash loaded to use the ESRI maps.
Yes this means you currently cannot use iPad, iPhone, and Android tablets
and phones. This will be changed to use HTML5 instead of Flash sometime
this year. Then you will be able to use tablets and phones.
4.You may be able to use Firefox or Chrome, but some features MAY not work.
Also, some alignment and font sizes may be off because the launch page was
designed using IE9.
