ndian Media and Entertainment industry is experiencing a massive
Itransformation. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.9 per cent to touch
US$ 37.55 billion by 2021, according to the KPMG India- FICCI Indian
Media and Entertainment Industry 2017 report. While examining this figure, we
can apparently conclude that soon our nation will be a leader in the
entertainment media industry. With the advent and acceptance of technology,
Indian market is mounting the success ladder rapidly. Such technology
advancement has revolutionized various sectors in the Indian market including
the realm of 3D printing.
India’s 3D printing market has application for every present industry and
highlights a great promise in the entertainment sector. Individual artists,
designers, and small studios now have the innovative tools that were not
attainable before. Content creators are printing 3D characters and are employing
them in sets and as props in multiple variations reducing time and costs when
contrasted with the third party vendors. This technology advances further and
provides artists the method in which they do not have to compromise with the
quality and can produce accurate 3D models. Studios can print thousands of
precise colors gradients and combinations and achieve color accuracy, which
was not possible in the past.
The world has already witnessed how 3D printing has transformed the
stop-motion animation. Prominent studios have been using 3D printing in
stop-motion animated films past last decade. 3D printing can serve our

them to print those models in the real world. These models can be utilized as
lighting reference or can be employed in the approval process. Nevertheless, it is

While using 3D printing, executives have discovered the finest way to set up and
mix real objects with CGI. Prominent production houses and studios have even
used 3D printing in real objects, accessories, and costumes. This innovative
technology has leveled the playing field between stop-motion and CG

Established in 2009, Digitoonz is an animation
production studio in New Delhi, India with an
office in Delaware, USA. Digitoonz stands for
digital cartoons and provides services for all stages of

maintained its integrity and has never looked back since its

Vikas Kumar is the Founder & CEO of Digitoonz. He
started the firm with his friend Nadim Akhtar to provide

Initially it was hard to get International Animation Project
and to sustain the studio worked with leading publishing,
e-learning and advertising companies like: NIIT, Educomp,
IL&FS, HCL, CORE Group, Jaypee Group, Span
Communication, etc. Later Digitoonz got the project
BONDI BAND, which was the first international TV series
the studio worked on. It was a difficult phase for the team as
it was a totally different experience to work and perform on
the animation of a TV series but at the same time it was
really great to learn and grow.
Today Vikas is the face of Digitoonz. He is moving
forward very actively with many new business
opportunities to grow Digitoonz worldwide and also in
opening new ventures for Kids Entertainment and
edutainment. Vikas believes in spreading his hands and

Studio’s Point of View towards the Industry
According to the studio, earlier, majority of the animation
companies were dependent on only the service work but
now the production of local content is very much in. Even
YouTube is an independent ﬁeld now. It gives a lot of free
space to the animation companies to develop their own
content and earn. Moreover, if the company need to keep
providing the service work than it has to provide a very
good quality of work as the level of animation is increasing
with each passing time.
A Few Proud Experiences
The studio prides itself on delivering a speciﬁc project
named ‘Mirette Investigates’. It had to adopt new
technology and the studio was running short of time.
Nonetheless, the studio took it up as a challenge and started
with a small team. Its key animators worked on the project
extraordinarily and that too with such exceptional quality.
The hard work on this project earned the studio a huge
appreciation from the client. Furthermore, this hard work
paid off as this project made Digitoonz’s status known
worldwide. There was also a project - Galaxi Taxi, which
helped the studio and taught its team how to give the feel of
traditional animation by using rigged characters. In
addition, the planning of the project was something very
useful to learn. Bondi Band (An Animated TV Series of 52
Episodes of 11 Minutes from Latin America and Europe)
was another project which was indeed a very proud
experience for the studio as it was the First TV series the
studio’s team was work on. At that time, the studio was new
and its crew was in the process of gearing up, learning and
performing. One of the broadcasters of these series was
Disney XD so the quality was very high. For Digitoonz, it
was not only a challenge to meet the quality expectations
but also the communication, delivery process and pipeline
was also very challenging as the client was from Latin
America. This project opened its door to pitch other big
projects.
Future Keyframes
The studio plans to expand its resources all around the
globe. It is planning to work more into its intellectual
properties and starting its new YouTube channel for kids. It
is also planning to start new endeavors to serve 3D
animation and gaming. Other than the Animation Business,
Digitoonz has also invested into Education Business
i.e. - Layford International School and Dikshant Industrial
Training Institute. The mission behind such ventures is to

Zoetropeican was established at Singapore in the
year 2012. It focused on content generation
through Animation, Motion Graphics, and FX.
The same year, the company formed a subsidiary of
Zoetropeican in Mumbai, India. It aimed at exploring

ur whole world constitute a wide array of colours.
People deﬁne things because of their choice of
colours. Everything from their food to clothes to
vehicles etc. is based on the selection of colours. Although,
there are some people who have good colour judgement,
and they apply it in their lifestyle naturally. The rest can
study and use the colour theory models to apply them in
their general life. Colour theory is the general rules and
regulations guide for the use of colours in any art and
design. It aims to establish a good feel and effective
communication through a design. In terms of delivery, it
aims at providing satisfaction at andvisual psychological
level. For example, artists can set a cool scene using a blue
colour or can create an ambience of elegance by using the
warm colours. By understanding the colour theory, artists
combine the colours and create harmony in the designs.
A Quick Sneak Peak from History
Colour theory ﬁrst appeared in the principles of Leone
Battista Albert (c. 1435) and from the notebook of
Leonardo Da Vinci Sir(c.1490). Later in the 18th century,
Isaac Newton optiks, in his books (1704) showed the world
the primary colours and created his own .colour wheel
These studies explain the colours and how different
combinations can be used to create an appeal in any design.
Modern colour theory is based on the Newton’s colour
wheel comprising the primary, secondary and tertiary
colour.

The Colour Wheel
The colour wheel or the colour circle is used to illustrate the
organisation of the hues. The wheel represents the relation
between the primary, secondary and tertiary colours. In a
colour wheel the primary colours i.e. Red, Yellow, and Blue
(painter’s primary) are equally placed at the colour wheel
forming an equilateral triangle. The middle section
represents the mixtures of the primary colours. A typical
model of colour wheel includes the primary as RGB with
intermediary secondaries like green, orange, violet or
purple. The rest forms a mixture of primary and secondary
called tertiary colours, which comprises Green-Yellow,
Yellow-Orange, Orange-Red, Red-Violet, Purple-Blue and
Blue-Green.
Cool and Warm Colours
The colour wheel is divided into two parts of colours being
called the warm colours and the cool colours.
Warm colours are vivid, energetic and can be easily spotted
in the nature, for example, Red.
Cool colours illustrate calmness, coolness and create a
soothing experience, for example Blue.
Colour Harmonies
The colour wheel comprises colours, which are used to
create a design. There are specific colour schemes acquired
from the colour wheel, which can be directly implemented
in the design.
Analogous Colour Scheme
This type of scheme uses the colours that are adjacent to
one another. As the colours are matching, these aid in
creating a calm and peace designs. Being found in the
nature, these come out pleasing to the viewer’s eyes.
Example: Orange and Yellow or shades of Green.
Complementary Colour Scheme
This scheme comprises with the colours present on the
opposite end of the colour wheel. A vibrant look is achieved
with this scheme especially when used in full hue
saturation. Artists tend to find difficulties in balancing them
and without appropriate caution; an artist can create a
jarring design. The trick is to use these lies in the less
quantity of the colour and it helps in separating content and
makes them to stand out.
Example- Blue with Orange, Red with Green
Split Complementary Colour Scheme
This scheme is just a slight variation of the complementary
scheme. In addition to the base colour, it uses the other two
adjacent colours that are its complement. These bring a
strong visual contrast just like complementary but the
advantage lies in having a less tension in a design. These
are recommended to the beginners so that they can easily
design.
Example- Blue, Yellow-Orange and Blue, Red-Orange.
Triadic Colour Scheme
Evenly spread colour on the colour wheel forming a
triangle constitutes a triadic colour scheme. This scheme is
quite vibrant even when unsaturated hue value is used.
Artist must be careful while using this scheme because it
can be difficult to balance. The trick is to use one colour in
dominance and the later in support.
Example- Red with Yellow with Blue
Tetradic/ Double Complementary Colour Scheme
In this scheme, four colours are arranged in the same
fashion as the complementary scheme forming a rectangle.
This provides various types of possibilities and different
variations. If used correctly, it can bring a unique kind of
balance in a design. Also it works best, when one colour is
applied with dominance and others in support.
Example- Blue and Orange coupled with Yellow and Violet.
Square Colour Scheme
This scheme is very much similar to the rectangle scheme
that comprises four colours. As the name suggests these
four colours are used in a square form in the colour wheel.
The artist needs to pay attention while applying colours as
this colour scheme conflicts with the use of both warm and
cool colours.

Animationin INDIA
Initializing 20 years ago, people thought that animation
is only about cartoons. But now it is at that level at
which nobody can identify the real animation parts in
Multimedia Field. Before starting the main topic, let’s go a
little bit in the past. Remember, when in old days while
discussing, people used to talk about “TRICK SCENES”,
the seeds of [(VFX(Visual Effects) and CGI)] may be in
these trick scenes. Go little often this area of trick scenes.
The role of stuntman / stuntwoman, who even in these areas
of VFX & CGI still play part in film industry. Gradually
and slowly one often one innovation took place and shaped
an ever-changing field of animation which has done
miracles for us as it is now existing.
In our own country, all south based stunts, effects; fighting
scenes of a hero (including Rajnikant) are an example of
gradually infringing work of VFX & CGI in feature films.
Now Hindi films are also not behind in using Animation
(VFX & CGI). Films like Ra-One, Krishh, and long cartoon
films series including Ramayana, Krishna, Hanuman &
Chhota Bhim, Motu patlu and all very popular films are
based on this animation (VFX & CGI) effect only. The best
example of tremendous success in Indian films industry is
eye-opening record break popularity of Bahubali I & II.
Before few years there was hardly 10% to 20% of the (VFX
& CGI Effect) animation used in our feature films
production which has increased up to 50% to 80% today in
even average future films making to the success of the
films.
Albert Einstein has once written that imagination is more
important than knowledge. So, imagination is everything.
Before 20 years, people were thinking that animation is
cartoon pictures only, but at this moment animation has
reached such a high level that it is difficult to differentiate
between real & animation. Walt Disney started the sketches
by drawing from a frame by frame. His characters were
popular the world over Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Nemo
etc. The next stage of development was Stop Motion
Animation was used in films like Sindbad when 3D
animation was not available. Then the area of 2D
computerized Animation began & became very popular.
Famous character films & serials like Tom & Jerry, Scooby
Doo, Chhota Bhim, Doremon, Popeye, Hanuman.
Till now, people started to know something about animation
which was generally known as the cartoon at the end of the
20th century. But now withstanding of 3D animation the
world has changed really. Animation now has reached at
such a level that no one can differentiate between real world
& animation creations. Now we can see the animation like
dinosaurs that disappeared long before as living, moving
characters with sounds. In the last one and a half decade of
the 20th century, two important Religious serials have a
deep impact on Indian TV viewers. They had done a real
miracle that at the TV show time lives on roads come to
stand still. Ramayana & Mahabharata had done this magic
on Indian viewers.
We can see imaginary animation like Dragon Flaunt,
Godzilla. We can also create different creatures from
different planets like Star-War, Star-Trek, Lost in Space,
Hulk, DC and Marvel Universe, ET-Alien etc. 3D
animation had a very evolutionary stage in 2009. The huge
success of “Avtar” made people know what a 3D animation
can do. 3D animation has many advantages: it is rapid &
quick, good looking like real substance or character.
Something new: what previously was impossible to be
done, can now be done with the desired effect in creators
mind at a reasonable rate. With the use of 3D animation like
