Types of technology used.
From the research, to the planning to then the actual
shooting and editing of our media product, we used
three types of technology. These three types of
technology and their basic use was:
 Internet. – Research.
 Hardware. – Making of the film.
 Software. – Editing the film.
Hardware.
Digital Video Camera
During our filming of the actual media product, we both used a Sony HDR
SR8. Due to the basic practicing of filming with these cameras previously
before our preliminary task, we already knew the basics on how the camera
was to be used.
The positive outcomes of using a Sony HDR SR8 to film our media product,
was that the quality of the overall product, came out clear and focused upon
the complete action. The zoom in effect with the camera button also came out
steady.
The only negative outcome of this digital video camera, was that the
background could have had more depth of field, so the characters and the
action was really focused on.
Hardware.
Dolly and Tripods.
When we deeply thought about how we want to produce our product as a smooth piece
with only a small section of a handheld movement, we knew we would be needing a dolly
and two tripods.
The Dolly was used mainly for the beginning section of the overall product as it was used
to pan across a collage of clown pictures and newspaper titles. The tripods were mainly
used for the rest of the product, too pan certain sections but also just to keep some shots
completely still and steady.
The positive outcomes of the Dolly and the Tripods, is that the shots which were shot
using this equipment was kept completely still and had no sudden shakes or unwanted
movement.
The only negative outcome, was the Dolly movement. This was due to the sudden jolts
and shakes that happened from the carpet against the Dolly’s wheels that caused this
problem.
Hardware.
Nikon D3200
After filming, the camera Nikon D3200, was used to take photographs of the
characters used but also the area the filming took place. The reason these
photographs were needed, were for our location scouting sheet but also to
reveal the appearance of the characters in our a evaluation. Due to the Nikon
D3200 camera being the property of Demi, we decided that Demi would take
the photographs as she knew how this camera worked.
Only positive outcomes came from this camera, as all the photographs were
shown to be clear, detailed and captured everything that was needed to be
shown. The lighting was also used well.
Hardware.
Recorder and Boom.
With filming, sound is also needed. This involved using the following two equipment pieces and their uses:
 H1 Zoom. – The H1 zoom, is a small recording device in which is used to pick up and record any audio within a
small distance. The H1 zoom has a basic structure in which was not hard to use as there was a button to record
and a play button to replay the audio recorded.
 Boom. – Due to the H1 Zoom being such a small device in which can only pick up on audio from a small
distance away, an extendable boom was needed. This extendable boom was connected to the H1 Zoom,
which allowed us to record from a higher point and still be able to pick up on the audio from the characters.
The positive outcome of this equipment is mainly the boom, because it was able to give us the possibility of recording
the audio from the characters from a higher point in which the recorder and the boom could not be seen from in the
filming.
The negative outcome of this equipment was that it is actually quite hard to not drop the boom lead into the camera shot
or even the boom itself. With constant practice since the preliminary task with the boom and recorder, we have both
learnt how to control this equipment.
Software.
LiveType.
During our editing stage, we used LiveType to focus on creating both our
Demathon Pictures logo and the ‘CLOWN’ title. This Software, was used
before by both of us as practice attempts after the preliminary task, to create
newer and more professional looking logos and texts.
The positive outcome of LiveType, was that the software was easy to use
and the outcomes of all text when carefully planned and made, came out
looking professional.
The negative outcome of this software, is that there is a limit to certain
features such as backgrounds. This is only negative due to limiting us down
more, into having to pick something other than what we wanted.
Software
Premiere Pro.
Throughout the main stage of editing, the software we mainly focused on was
Pemiere Pro. With the practice we received way before the main product was
filmed, Premiere Pro became a little easier to work out and use whilst the
complete product started it’s placing together. Obviously we came across
either problems or ideas that we did not know how to solve, so we used
tutorials from the internet as a basic guide line.
The positive outcome of this selected software, is that once we had learnt the
basics, the software became perfect to use and to place all our media product
together with ease.
Software
PowerPoint
PowerPoint's were used to display both some of our evaluation
but also mainly on our research. Due to the variety of templates
we can use, the PowerPoint would change each time except
from the actual tool bar. Using this software, was not actually a
problem for us as we have had years of experience on this
software due to previous education.
The positive outcome of this software, is that all the templates
are simple and easier to use but also have a variety, meaning
that we’re not tied down onto what templates we could use.
Internet.
YouTube
Youtube was our main tool yet not frequently used. This was possible
due to the fact that we only ever used YouTube as a source in which to
upload our final media product but also preliminary task and camera
work clips onto, so we could embed them into our individual blogs and
group blogs.
The only negative outcome of this internet website, is that some
problems can happen during the uploading of the product or an
extreme amount of time can be used to upload the product, meaning
there is less time to move onto the next task.
Internet
Prezi and Slideshare
Prezi is an online mind map maker with different templates to
select from, to present formal ideas to a wider audience. We
have mainly used Prezi to show our ideas in a formal yet fun
way other than PowerPoint.
Slideshare is the complete opposite to Prezi, as Slideshare is
used to present PowerPoints and word documents over the
internet but to also embed them onto blogs. This is also a formal
way to present our research work with.
