3. The library has a staff of 400 consultants in 30 countries, a
web site, Intranet page and a publishing wing where it
publishes 12 books and journals (3 issues per journal)
each year. It has one photocopying machine, 3 computers
that provide access to licensed databases, and 3
computers that students can use to search the web. One
printer is attached to all 6 computers. The library is open
to the public and has a bookstore where it sells books,
journals and book-related items.
5. Preamble
- Includes parties entering agreement, owner of
content, effective dates of the agreement.
- May include information of other clauses.
- Important since it introduces the license and
essential information.
6. Definitions
- Includes and defines essential and frequent
terms found in the license such as licensed
content.
- Important so terms are not ambiguously
defined.
7. Rights Granted
- Is the scope of rights and activities and who
those rights are granted.
- Is important since it defines the usage in no
uncertain terms so the library is able to
identify areas not included.
8. Compensation/License Fee Payment
- Includes who will be paying who, and by
what model: e.g. pay-per-use.
- This is essential becomes it defines
currency, and effects how much of the
licensed content can be used.
9. Archival
- Discusses access and provisions for that
access to licensed content after library does
not renew its license.
- This is important since license does not
grant ownership to content raising the
concern of future access to research
materials.
10. Termination
- Discusses the conditions surrounding the
end of the contract should one of the parties
breach the contract and best practices.
- Important since it defines the rights of either
party should an issue arise.
