Script/content for Data mining presentation

1. S1: Hello my name is Sean Hice and I am here to here to talk about datamining, there
are a lot of complex details that I will try to simplify to the best of my ability.
S2: according to Wikipedia “Data mining is the process of discovering patterns in large
data sets involving methods at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and
database systems.”
S3: As mentioned above, patterns in large sets of data are found which help you learn
about the foundation of what is being analyzed.
S4: Data collection of this nature was started in the 1960s, but datamining was started
in the 1990s.
S5: Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro was an important part of the database community and
this community would eventually form the term “datamining”.
S6: Datamining can be at threat to privacy, which you have very little of this digital age,
so people being concerned about this is justified.
S7: Datamining exposed patterns, that give a person or company the ability to plan their
next move accordingly, as mentioned in my Cambridge Analytica presentation
information is very valuable.
S8: Anyone can data mine, but not everyone will be good at it. Advanced computer
science skills are a necessity and the ability to see patterns is vital.
S9: To datamine you need a computer, software, knowledge, etc. A large amount of
data is often analyzed so the better the equipment the better.
S10: Datamining was specifically started in 1995, and has evolved a lot since that point
in time.
S11: There aren’t many jobs that are titled “data miner”, but there are data analysts
around the world in every field.
S12: Data mining get easier as time goes on, systems and programs make it easier and
easier to do.
S13: Datamining is very hard to prevent, encryption and secure programs are only a
temporary way to stop this.
S14: Datamining isn’t really a competition, but some countries are better than others,
this is partly due to technology.
S15: Datamining is learned from practice, research, and in most cases a teacher. Not
everyone can see patterns immediately, so practice is one of the best ways to improve
your skills.

2. S16: Destiny 2 a video game, was data mined and weapons, armor and content where
discovered through datamining. Datamining in videogames is actually fairly common
and people make a living off of providing information.
S17: It is very hard to assign a numerical value to how much information is data mined,
it is expected to be a very large number.
S18: Data mining will continue to become easier and more efficient, because
technology is destined continue to advance.
S19: Datamining has the potential to help people, can the information prevent
something horrible from happening? This is a major ethical question that the world faces
today.
