3. My 1st Session at Duke Energy
For my 1st session with Duke Energy I was in the same position within the Air Emissions
Management Group.
A large part of my responsibilities were helping the other members of the group meet their site
requirements. This included; reviewing data, updating existing spreadsheets and performing ‘odd’
jobs. I did less of this my 2nd session as my other projects took up more time.
I was also in charge of sending out biweekly and monthly reports. Most of the Reports I was
maintaining last session I am once again responsible for this session.

4. Biweekly and Monthly Reports
Reports I am responsible for Sending out:
– SCRon (once a month)
– RATA Baseline (as needed)
– Mercury (biweekly) – This session I was able to update the reports
reflecting new data capturing systems.
– Particulate Matter (biweekly) – I created this report in my first session and
was able to add onto the report based on
knew information.

5. RATA’s
Relative Accuracy Test Audit’s
Performed once every 4 operating quarters or every 8 non-operating quarters
Used to determine if a units emission instruments are correctly calibrated.
Coal units are tested on Gas and Flow while CT’s are tested on Gases only.
The Air Emissions group is in charge of relaying information from the Third Party testers to our
systems, making sure that each segment of the test is being passed

6. Excel VBA / Macro
This term especially, I created many reports that required the use
of macros.
6
For those of you who may not know; a macro is a code that can be created in any Word
application. It’s a tool mainly used to make repeated tasks go a lot faster. For Example: If I
were creating the same report every week instead of doing the weekly “click” and “copy/paste”
routine I could create a macro to do this for me.
The button above is an example of a macro in PowerPoint. Macros can be very useful when
sending out reports, that way you don’t have to explain every detail about how to generate a
report.

7. Control and Parameters Chart
7
Control & Parameters Charts are used as a data checking tool. It creates graphs so that you can
easily check data looking for outlying numbers
I was asked to a C&P Chart for a site that did not yet have one.
This seemed like a fairly easy task until I saw the amount of
macros that went into making one of these spreadsheets work.
8. Control and Parameters Chart

My first decision was to make an entirely new spreadsheet instead of trying to modify an already
created one, it seemed if something went wrong I wouldn’t know why.
I then had to go through each macro looking at each line determining if it needed to be changed to
fit the new units. The end result was a fully functioning worksheet, and a template for a lot of the
macros I used in future reports.
9. Data Cube Reports
9
The largest project I had this session dealt with a Data Cube and creating reports from the data
coming out of the cube. The idea was to replace reports that were time consuming to create, with
the new cube it would turn a 4 hour job into a 15 min job.
In the report on the left, data was entered manually
from a variety of different spreadsheets.
In the new report below, all you have to do is change
the time period and click a button.
10. Data Cube Reports
10
I have created three different types of reports from the Data Cube; each uses different macros to
accomplish the end result.
» Regional ECT Reports – Macros used to sort data in the correct order
and create ranges based on where data is
located.
11. Data Cube Reports
» Daily SO2 Reports – Macro used much like that of the ECT reports
in that it sorts data and creates ranges to be
used in the graph.
11
12. Data Cube Reports
» Exceedance Reports – Macro tallies up the number of exceedances
for a certain reason code, then highlights the
codes that have been recorded. Another
macro inside the report allows you to jump to
a particular site by typing it into a cell.
