4. The Morgan Library is one of the main buildings on Colorado State University’s campus. With all
of the movement and friction evolving around in this space, it is hard sometimes not to get lost in the
activites happening around you. Within the center of Morgan Library lies its courtyard. This area is
currently an underutilized space. This camoflauged opening is surrounded by windows looking out
into the space. Currently all that stands in it are a few sculptures, some tables, and a confusion of
plants.
For my design I wanted to create an area that students can get lost in and not be distracted by their
neighbors happenings. I created a space that has three different heights to be able to enclose the
viewer. With a simple planting plan, the area is not overpowering or distracting. The color pallet is gray
and green tones with a splash of orange to keep interest and excite the eyes.

11. This Urban design study was focused on Cairo Egypt. I drew a figure ground of the city to highlight
the main roads, circulation, and layout of the city. This in turn, gave me the opportunity to reflect back
on the layout of the cities in the United States and compare them. Cairo is a much more
historically and culturally developed city than anywhere in the United States. Through this study I was
able to come to the conclusion that Cairo looks very similar to Venice and other well developed
European cities.

15. In this study it was required to pick a natural area and create a study on the features that define
this area and the development associated with it. I chose Cuernos del Paine because of its beauty
and its singularity. It is located in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile. The Cuernos del Paine‘s rock
formations are unlike anything else in the world. After studying this area, I realized that there are four
main influences on the ecology of this area: subpolar forests, icefields/ glaciers, lakes and rivers, and
human influences.

18. The challenge of this project was to create an alternative path as an entrance into Gateway Nat-
ural Area. Gateway has drastic elevation changes which serve as a problem when it came to
keeping the path in ADA regulations. Another problem was how to frame all of the spectacular views
at this site. When walking through the site, I decided to make the path consistently at same elevation.
This created different experiences for each area the viewer was in. At some points, the visitors would
be hovering through the trees, and for others they would be on the ground. For the path leading up
to the elevated areas, I wanted to mimic the landscape and thought about how it was formed through
the breaking apart and movement of the land. As for the views, I created areas where the visitor would
be in a densely forested area and then would emerge into the light to be greeted with a framed view
of each major viewpoint.

23. For my Capstone project I picked a place that I visited several times as a child. This area is called
Port Hueneme beach. It recently underwent a reconstruction of the pier and is currently having a
“revitalization”of the sand dunes. With all of the structural changes to the beach and all the money
being spent to make the pier function better, I believe it needs a design update. The current area is
lacking any design quality and just has picnic benches and paths that are randomly placed. For my
design concept, I reflected back on the drainage and how one line continues through the landscape
with various other sections draining into it. I began by folding pieces of paper and continued my idea
there. I also believe that since there are areas of drainage that go directly into my site there needs to
be a brackish wetland to reduce the amount of pollution draining into the ocean.
