Strange events The Arctic Tern poem
Oh!
What a wonderful scenario,what amazingfeats !
by globetrotting birds of variousvarieties
flyingfar far away from their homelybreedingsites
to distantbut warmer wintering respites,
across unknown lands and vast seas
a round tripof thousandupon thousand miles
from one end of the world to another
via theirchosen routesand ways year after year .
Of all of them the top notcher ,surprisingly, happensto be
white Arctic Tern with red beak & black cap, believeme
from pole to pole, in a round trip,covering70000 *miles
flying ,with few halts ,without rest or feed for days
(making equivalent of 3round tripsto moon in its livingdays!)
taking meandering routes to reach Antarctica
from its Arctic home ,via S.Africa or S. America.
justifiablyearningthe credit for longest migrations
in the animal kingdom’s all domains.

Migration routes of Arctic Tern
Dr Phillip - British Antarctic survey - Phys.org-News
From Arctic region to Antarctic region
Flying over entire Atlantic ocean from end to end
Oh what a sense of geography, global seasons and winds
Unfailing location of suitable foraging breeding wintering grounds
Oh what a marathon effort throughout the life
By millions of these little birds do surprise.

The Great Albatross
The great Albatross - a big birdof course
sportinglargest wingspan of all,-soars and soars
going up and down with the wind duringits course
covers 1000 miles / day without flapping its wings even once;!
Well equipped for facingwindysouthernocean
flyingaway after every breedingseason
circumnavigating Antarctica as a whole ,covering
2,40,000 Km ,keeps searching fish & squidsduringforaging.
A feat unsurpassedby anyonein the kingdomanimalias rolecall
Surprisesastonishesamazesbeyond measureone and all.
Made famous by the great poet in his ‘AncientMariners’tale
this ,’goodomen’for Mariners, was ,however, known more
for its mating call and display, with sky pointing beakto lure
the mate and flappingwings to make her responsesure
and dancing by roaming romeos during romantic episode(s).

Route of circumnavigation of Antarctica by Albatross
Dr Phillip - bas.ac.uk
Oh ! How amazingthesebirdsreallyare
performingunbelievablefeats and marathon tasks
How strangehalf of a group takes the round trips
clockwiseand the other half anticlockwise!
How well they know the topographyand geography
of a largecontinent as a whole and know so perfectly
every inch of a vast unrulyocean, wind force & direction
senseof seasonsand location of best foragingstation(s).!

Strange Events poems
Shearwater
Shearwater flies shearing crests of waves
of the great pacific ocean from end to end always
In a round trip from virtually ,’ pole to pole ’in a way
migrating to and fro on a figure of 8 loops stylish way
covering 65000 Km from Newzealand to Japan or Alaska’s bay
undertakinglongest migration in a season !
annually in the entire animal kingdoms vast sway
This champion has one and only one rival in its way
the Arctic Tern – Queen of bird migrations so far
with a similar record of poleto polemigration by far
It is still an open question in scientific wisdom
Who should be crowned king of this vast kingdom ?
who so ever may ultimately be chosen for this honour
fact remains that to many if not most
shearwaters migration appears more spectacular .
Strange events poems
But what strikes me most is their knowledge of geography
of the entire pacific ocean from coast to coast & end to end fully
when and where to dive deep for fishing here or there
the global wind system ,wind force & direction, time to time there
And what is more, taking advantage of trade winds
adjusting the direction of flight and speed accordingly there
knowing the difference in seasons in the two hemispheres
planningtheir trip to enjoy perpetual summer here or there
familiarity with coasts of widely apart four great continents
choosing rich halts for foraging or breeding with great care .
Really one feels like saluting these wise guise -fellows
Be they Arctic terns or Shearwaters – is’nt it !- tell us .

Strange events poems
Sea turtles
Symbol of long life, life in slow motion
Continuous effort without hesitation
progress with perseverance, persistence, patience
achieving great targets in graceful gradual fashion
Object of great curiosity from hoary past times
these amazing reptiles continue to surprise us in present times
Undertaking long journeys under water miles after miles
swimming in deep or turbulent waters across bays bites oceans
From far far foraging areas to the breeding sites at beeches
they manage to find ways to and fro but how ? who teaches ?
Knowing currents, keeping track ,remembering the route
return to exactly the same sites faithfully to breed or mate
What is the mechanism which ensures these undertakings
timely & precisely is the moot question which begs solution
They travel deep underwater and some say by using contours
of the sea bottom and following currents and ranges
Others say they recognize angle and intensity
of earths magnetic field and steer their course accordingly .
But this is not the end of the story
Strange events
for they have sprung another surprise upon us recently
marine biologist Gruber having discovered accidentally
a hawksbill turtle which glowed red and green beautifully
exhibiting bio fluorescence amazingly.
the first ever reptile discovered showing
bio fluorescence incidentally.
taking whole scientific community by surprise
and made it sit up excitedly .

Gray Whales
We are Baleen whales of pacific ocean
filter feeders of colour gray
incidentally made known to the wide world
by famous scientist J.E.Gray
encrusted with barnacle patches and others
we look like large pieces of floating rocks
We are distinguished by a hump and bumps
instead of fin, on our dorsal sides
Are ‘At home’in Arctic Chukchik sea
and Pacific Bearing sea in summer
merrily swimming near Alaska or Kamchatka
foraging near the shores, all together
most of us prefer to travel south along coast of America
right up to Mexico’s Californian peninsula
to winter , mate, breed or give birth to babies
in warm and safe lagoon waters
making a round trip of 12000 miles or so every year
the longest migration among mammals
Strange events
traveling in pods day and night @ 120 Km /day
or 8Km/hr taking 2-3 months either way
Some ofcourse travel from Sakhalin to South China sea
Via shores of Korea or Japan & China always.

Strange events chapter 19 great migrations record holders pictures poems

  • 1. Strange events Chapter 19 record holder s Globe trotters Arctic Tern Protecting nest -Holland Nesting in Iceland A Weith – WC - cc Jacub Frys – Wc – cc Wintering in Patagonia Pmatas - Wc - cc
  • 2. Strange events The Arctic Tern poem Oh! What a wonderful scenario, what amazingfeats ! by globetrotting birds of variousvarieties flyingfar far away from their homelybreedingsites to distantbut warmer wintering respites, across unknown lands and vast seas a round tripof thousandupon thousand miles from one end of the world to another via theirchosen routesand ways year after year . Of all of them the top notcher ,surprisingly, happensto be white Arctic Tern with red beak & black cap, believeme from pole to pole, in a round trip,covering70000 *miles flying ,with few halts ,without rest or feed for days (making equivalent of 3round tripsto moon in its livingdays!) taking meandering routes to reach Antarctica from its Arctic home ,via S.Africa or S. America. justifiablyearningthe credit for longest migrations in the animal kingdom’s all domains. *British Antarcticsurvey
  • 3. Strange events poems Migration routes of Arctic Tern Dr Phillip - British Antarctic survey - Phys.org-News From Arctic region to Antarctic region Flying over entire Atlantic ocean from end to end Oh what a sense of geography, global seasons and winds Unfailing location of suitable foraging breeding wintering grounds Oh what a marathon effort throughout the life By millions of these little birds do surprise.

  • 5. Strange events poem The Great Albatross The great Albatross - a big birdof course sportinglargest wingspan of all,-soars and soars going up and down with the wind duringits course covers 1000 miles / day without flapping its wings even once;! Well equipped for facingwindysouthernocean flyingaway after every breedingseason circumnavigating Antarctica as a whole ,covering 2,40,000 Km ,keeps searching fish & squidsduringforaging. A feat unsurpassedby anyonein the kingdomanimalias rolecall Surprisesastonishesamazesbeyond measureone and all. Made famous by the great poet in his ‘AncientMariners’tale this ,’goodomen’for Mariners, was ,however, known more for its mating call and display, with sky pointing beakto lure the mate and flappingwings to make her responsesure and dancing by roaming romeos during romantic episode(s).
  • 6. Strange events poems Route of circumnavigation of Antarctica by Albatross Dr Phillip - bas.ac.uk Oh ! How amazingthesebirdsreallyare performingunbelievablefeats and marathon tasks How strangehalf of a group takes the round trips clockwiseand the other half anticlockwise! How well they know the topographyand geography of a largecontinent as a whole and know so perfectly every inch of a vast unrulyocean, wind force & direction senseof seasonsand location of best foragingstation(s).!

  • 9. Strange Events poems Shearwater Shearwater flies shearing crests of waves of the great pacific ocean from end to end always In a round trip from virtually ,’ pole to pole ’in a way migrating to and fro on a figure of 8 loops stylish way covering 65000 Km from Newzealand to Japan or Alaska’s bay undertakinglongest migration in a season ! annually in the entire animal kingdoms vast sway This champion has one and only one rival in its way the Arctic Tern – Queen of bird migrations so far with a similar record of poleto polemigration by far It is still an open question in scientific wisdom Who should be crowned king of this vast kingdom ? who so ever may ultimately be chosen for this honour fact remains that to many if not most shearwaters migration appears more spectacular .
  • 10. Strange events poems But what strikes me most is their knowledge of geography of the entire pacific ocean from coast to coast & end to end fully when and where to dive deep for fishing here or there the global wind system ,wind force & direction, time to time there And what is more, taking advantage of trade winds adjusting the direction of flight and speed accordingly there knowing the difference in seasons in the two hemispheres planningtheir trip to enjoy perpetual summer here or there familiarity with coasts of widely apart four great continents choosing rich halts for foraging or breeding with great care . Really one feels like saluting these wise guise -fellows Be they Arctic terns or Shearwaters – is’nt it !- tell us .
  • 11. Strange events Globe trotters pictures & poems Sea Turtles E imbricata – Hawksbill Turtle Pedrosanch - Wc - cc Bio fluorescent Hawksbill near Soloman Islands Amanda Kooser – cnet.com Looks like ‘UFO floating under water glowing softly red & green ’ “A bright red & green spaceship ” David Gruber-discovering Biologist
  • 12. Strange events poems Sea turtles Symbol of long life, life in slow motion Continuous effort without hesitation progress with perseverance, persistence, patience achieving great targets in graceful gradual fashion Object of great curiosity from hoary past times these amazing reptiles continue to surprise us in present times Undertaking long journeys under water miles after miles swimming in deep or turbulent waters across bays bites oceans From far far foraging areas to the breeding sites at beeches they manage to find ways to and fro but how ? who teaches ? Knowing currents, keeping track ,remembering the route return to exactly the same sites faithfully to breed or mate What is the mechanism which ensures these undertakings timely & precisely is the moot question which begs solution They travel deep underwater and some say by using contours of the sea bottom and following currents and ranges Others say they recognize angle and intensity of earths magnetic field and steer their course accordingly . But this is not the end of the story
  • 13. Strange events for they have sprung another surprise upon us recently marine biologist Gruber having discovered accidentally a hawksbill turtle which glowed red and green beautifully exhibiting bio fluorescence amazingly. the first ever reptile discovered showing bio fluorescence incidentally. taking whole scientific community by surprise and made it sit up excitedly .
