I would like to commend Sandra Burgess for her contribution to the Learning Analytics Discovery
Day held at Plymouth University in January 2016.
Learning Analytics is a new and complex area involving ‘big data’ applied to higher education.
Sandra was required to quickly understand the technical, legal, and ethical dimensions of its
application, to ask and answer questions and to participate in exercises with a group of senior
University staff.
Despite it being a very demanding time in the university year, Sandra was one of seven students
who volunteered to take part to ensure that different subject areas were represented.
Her clearly expressed views about Learning Analytics are helping the University to develop its
understanding of the student perspective on this technology and will ultimately benefit our future
students.
