This media product represents some social groups in potentially controversial ways. By filming a scene of a female character shooting a victim behind a church, it could offend more conservative Christian groups like Quakers who may find this portrayal offensive. However, the filmmaker received permission to film at this location and there are no Quakers in the surrounding area. Additionally, by having a female character take on the role of an assassin who shoots a male victim, it challenges traditional gender theories by portraying a woman in a strong and harmful role, rather than the usual passive roles seen in media. Props and characters were included to clearly establish the thriller genre as a spy thriller and engage viewers in the intended action genre.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

2.  My production welcomes and works around a variety of social groups, however being
a strong Christian this might reflect on my production as to being biased in the way I
choose to work as it could come across to being controversial. With one of my scenes
where the main Character Sandra shoot the victim being filmed behind a church, although
it was my church and I was giving full permission to do this, a particular group of ‘deeper’
Christians might find this offensive, such as Quakers. This particular social group have
been reported to be very aggressive and forceful in the ways in which they choose to
‘fight back’ in what they disapprove about, according to their ‘deeper’ belief in their
religion. However, it is beneficial to me because I have full permission and there are no
Quakers around the areas which I chose to shoot at.

3.  With the scene of the main character Sandra, who is also a female, acting out a part of being an
assassinator and shooting her victim in the head, who is a male, this highly challenges conventions as a
female is taking on a role of being strong and also harmful, contradicting majorly to theories such as to
those of Mulvey’s. Due to the fact that there are various thrillers available to the media, it was vital that I
try to show and indicate what particular thriller my opening would be focusing on, I ensured that I did
this by the way that including props such as: Iron rods, a gun, a suitcase and a mobile phone. I also
included characters such as Assassinators, agents and victims to emphasise that the type of thriller I
would be working around would be that of a Spy thriller. With these props and characters it would really
give out the action side to the viewers, so they are not left in the dark of what they are viewing, with
them knowing what they are watching it would be easier to get an active response relating to the genre I
would be working on.
