Man and woman were created in God’s
image

man in His own image, in the image of God created he Him; male and

Man was to bear God's image, both in outward resemblance and in

glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

5. THE CREATION AND FALL OF MAN
At the fall, the image of God was lost
Genesis 5:1-3
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the
day that God created man, in the likeness of God
made he him;..Male and female created he them;
and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in
the day when they were created..And Adam lived an
hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own
likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

Plan of redemption instituted to restore back the lost image
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy
seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel.

As the coin bears the image and superscription of the reigning power,
so man at his creation bore the image and superscription of God; and
though now marred and dim through the influence of sin, the traces of
this inscription remain upon every soul. God desires to recover that
soul and to retrace upon it His own image in righteousness and
holiness.

7. PLAN OF REDEMPTION

But even as a sinner, man was in
a different position from that of
Satan. Lucifer in heaven had sinned in the light of God's glory. To
him as to no other created being was given a revelation of God's love.
Understanding the character of God, knowing His goodness, Satan
chose to follow his own selfish, independent will. This choice was
final. There was no more that God could do to save him. But man was
deceived; his mind was darkened by Satan's sophistry. The height and
depth of the love of God he did not know. For him there was hope in
a knowledge of God's love. By beholding His character he might be
drawn back to God.

in Christ is the knowledge that all
who are saved must have. It is the knowledge that works
transformation of character. This knowledge, received, will re-create

and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

adherence to correct principles, all depend upon a right knowledge
of God. This knowledge is the essential preparation both for this life

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth
understanding unto the simple.

It is essential for old and young, not only to read God's word, but to
study it with wholehearted earnestness, praying and searching for
truth as for hidden treasure. Those who do this will be rewarded, for
Christ will quicken the understanding. Our salvation depends on a
knowledge of the truth contained in the Scriptures.

The whole Bible is a revelation of the glory
of God in Christ. Received, believed,
obeyed, it is the great instrumentality in the
transformation of character. It is the grand
stimulus, the constraining force, that quickens
the physical, mental, and spiritual powers, and directs the life into
right channels.
John 5:39-40
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and
they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that
ye might have life.

The life of Christ that gives life to the world is in His word...As our
physical life is sustained by food, so our spiritual life is sustained by
the word of God. And every soul is to receive life from God's word for
himself. As we must eat for ourselves in order to receive nourishment,
so we must receive the word for ourselves. We are not to obtain it
merely through the medium of another's mind. We should carefully
study the Bible, asking God for the aid of the Holy Spirit, that we may
understand His word. We should take one verse, and concentrate the
mind on the task of ascertaining the thought which God has put in
that verse for us. We should dwell upon the thought until it becomes
our own, and we know "what saith the Lord."

As the miner digs for the golden treasure in the earth, so earnestly,
persistently, must we seek for the treasure of God's word. In daily
study the verse-by-verse method is often most helpful. Let the
student take one verse and concentrate his mind on ascertaining the
thought that God has put into that verse for him, and then dwell
upon the thought until it becomes his own. One passage thus
studied until its significance becomes clear is of more value than the
perusal of many chapters with no definite purpose in view and no
positive instruction gained.

The word of God contains His Spirit
John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Without the Spirit of God a knowledge of His word is of no avail.
The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot
quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the
commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God
sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without
the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to distinguish
truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful temptations of
Satan.
