1. A LOOK INTO
MATTHEW 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness: for they shall be filled
2. Desire of Ages
298.2
The Sermon on the
Mount, though given
especially to the
disciples, was
spoken in the
hearing of the
multitude.
Matthew 5:1-2
3. It was to undo the false conceptions and teachings that
they had concerning His character and work
of God.
Desire of Ages 299.3
Christ disappointed the hope of
worldly greatness. In the Sermon
on the Mount He sought to undo
the work that had been wrought by
false education, and to give His
hearers a right conception of His
kingdom and of His own
character....The truths He taught
are no less important to us than to
the multitude that followed Him. We
no less than they need to learn the
foundation principles of the
kingdom
4. THE CREATION AND FALL OF MAN
Man and woman were created in God’s
image
Genesis 1:26-27
And God said, Let us make man in our
image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the
sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,
and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created
man in His own image, in the image of God created he Him; male and
female created He them.
Patriarch and Prophets 45.2
Man was to bear God's image, both in outward resemblance and in
character.
Isaiah 43:7
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my
glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
5. THE CREATION AND FALL OF MAN
At the fall, the image of God was lost
Genesis 5:1-3
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the
day that God created man, in the likeness of God
made he him;..Male and female created he them;
and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in
the day when they were created..And Adam lived an
hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own
likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
6. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
Plan of redemption instituted to restore back the lost image
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy
seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel.
Christ Object Lessons 194.3
As the coin bears the image and superscription of the reigning power,
so man at his creation bore the image and superscription of God; and
though now marred and dim through the influence of sin, the traces of
this inscription remain upon every soul. God desires to recover that
soul and to retrace upon it His own image in righteousness and
holiness.
7. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
This would be accomplished
through a knowledge of
God’s Character
Desire of Ages 761.5
But even as a sinner, man was in
a different position from that of
Satan. Lucifer in heaven had sinned in the light of God's glory. To
him as to no other created being was given a revelation of God's love.
Understanding the character of God, knowing His goodness, Satan
chose to follow his own selfish, independent will. This choice was
final. There was no more that God could do to save him. But man was
deceived; his mind was darkened by Satan's sophistry. The height and
depth of the love of God he did not know. For him there was hope in
a knowledge of God's love. By beholding His character he might be
drawn back to God.
8. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
It is this knowledge of
God’s Character that Christ
came to reveal
8T 289.2
The knowledge of God as revealed
in Christ is the knowledge that all
who are saved must have. It is the knowledge that works
transformation of character. This knowledge, received, will re-create
the soul in the image of God. It will impart to the whole being a
spiritual power that is divine. {MH 425.2}
John 17:3
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Character that Christ came to

5T 743.1
And how can we come into
harmony with God, how shall we
receive His likeness, unless we obtain a knowledge of Him? It is this
knowledge that Christ came into the world to reveal unto us.
2 Peter 1:3
According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that
pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that
hath called us to glory and virtue:

Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of wisdom: and the
knowledge of the holy is understanding
Ministry of Healing 409.3
Transformation of character, purity of life, efficiency in service,
adherence to correct principles, all depend upon a right knowledge
of God. This knowledge is the essential preparation both for this life
and for the life to come.
11. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
We receive this knowledge through the
word of God
Psalms 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth
understanding unto the simple.
Christ object Lesson 111.2
It is essential for old and young, not only to read God's word, but to
study it with wholehearted earnestness, praying and searching for
truth as for hidden treasure. Those who do this will be rewarded, for
Christ will quicken the understanding. Our salvation depends on a
knowledge of the truth contained in the Scriptures.

Ministry of Healing 458.1
The whole Bible is a revelation of the glory
of God in Christ. Received, believed,
obeyed, it is the great instrumentality in the
transformation of character. It is the grand
stimulus, the constraining force, that quickens
the physical, mental, and spiritual powers, and directs the life into
right channels.
John 5:39-40
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and
they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that
ye might have life.
13. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
Words are thoughts expressed
Desire of Ages 390
The life of Christ that gives life to the world is in His word...As our
physical life is sustained by food, so our spiritual life is sustained by
the word of God. And every soul is to receive life from God's word for
himself. As we must eat for ourselves in order to receive nourishment,
so we must receive the word for ourselves. We are not to obtain it
merely through the medium of another's mind. We should carefully
study the Bible, asking God for the aid of the Holy Spirit, that we may
understand His word. We should take one verse, and concentrate the
mind on the task of ascertaining the thought which God has put in
that verse for us. We should dwell upon the thought until it becomes
our own, and we know "what saith the Lord."
14. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
Words are thoughts expressed
Counsels to Parents, Teachers
and Students 461.3
As the miner digs for the golden treasure in the earth, so earnestly,
persistently, must we seek for the treasure of God's word. In daily
study the verse-by-verse method is often most helpful. Let the
student take one verse and concentrate his mind on ascertaining the
thought that God has put into that verse for him, and then dwell
upon the thought until it becomes his own. One passage thus
studied until its significance becomes clear is of more value than the
perusal of many chapters with no definite purpose in view and no
positive instruction gained.
15. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
Words are thoughts expressed (...continuation)
Desire of Ages 19.2
By coming to dwell with us, Jesus was to reveal God both
to men and to angels. He was the Word of God,--God's
thought made audible.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
16. PLAN OF REDEMPTION
The word of God contains His Spirit
John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Christ Object Lessons 408.3
Without the Spirit of God a knowledge of His word is of no avail.
The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot
quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the
commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God
sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without
the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to distinguish
truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful temptations of
Satan.

1 Corinthians 2:10-11
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit
searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God..For what man
knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?
even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Luke 11:13
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your
children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy
Spirit to them that ask him?
John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into
all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall
hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
18. CONCLUSION
We should;
Hunger and thirst after Righteousness
Hunger and thirst after the Knowledge of
God as revealed though Christ
Hunger and thirst after the Character of
God
Hunger and thirst after the Word of God
Hunger and thirst after the Thought of
God
19. CONCLUSION
Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and
thirst after righteousness: for they
shall be filled.
This is a promise
Proverbs 2:1-5
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments
with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply
thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and
liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the
knowledge of God.
20. CONCLUSION
Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger
and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.

Thoughts from Mount of
Blessings 18.2
Not by painful struggles or
wearisome toil, not by gift or sacrifice, is righteousness obtained; but
it is freely given to every soul who hungers and thirsts to receive it.
John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to
me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
21. CONCLUSION
The more we know Him, the
more we receive the latter rain
Hosea 6:3
Then shall we know, if we follow
on to know the LORD: His
going forth is prepared as the
morning; and He shall come unto
us as the rain, as the latter and
former rain unto the earth.
Christ Object Lessons 66.1
If we keep our minds stayed upon
Christ, He will come unto us "as
the rain, as the latter and former
rain unto the earth."
