The spring concert on campus brought to you by IMPACT is an annual event. There was
a survey conducted from this fall of various artists and genres that the students were able to vote
who they wanted for the spring concert. Hoodie Allen was on this survey and had a large margin
of the votes.
Hoodie Allen’s most recent album, “People Keep Talking,” was released Oct. 14, 2014.
There are collaborations on the album including one with popular singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran
called “All About It.” He has performed in concerts with Macklemore and is touring this summer
with Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa.
He talks about the atmosphere and how he built his signature style and shaped his
albums. His most popular songs such as “No Interruption,” and “No Faith in Brooklyn” portray a
specific atmosphere. People can expect an upbeat, dynamic and lively experience.
“I wanted to build a style rooted in hip-hop, pop, and soul that combined everything I
loved,” said Hoodie Allen. “The flow and wordplay are as important as the hooks are. I aimed
for the album to be cohesive in terms of the sound and story. The songs contribute to the
narrative, but they can stand on their own as well.”
There will be no outside food or beverage, no backpacks allowed or flash photography.
Cell phones will not be confiscated. Minnesota State Mankato is an alcohol, other drugs and
tobacco free campus. Use of these substances will result in removal from the concert.
Hoodie Allen graduated from University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League college. He also
has past job experience working at Google. Moving to the music industry, he got his big break
without a label or management with his “All American” album. In addition, he sold out tours
worldwide on his own.
