2. Reading is unique for many reasons. People will use this
unique medium for pleasure or for education, but most
people reading the same words will have completely
different experiences that impact the process.
3. Past Experiences
● When reading, I tend to imagine the setting of a book around what is
familiar to me. For example, if there is a library in the story I would
probably picture the Upper Arlington Public Library on Tremont Road. I
will usually visualize actors or people I know as the characters. This is
why past experiences can impact a story and makes one person's
reading experience different from others.
4. Setting and Time
● This was something that I was very interested in throughout this
semester. It is a topic that I had never really thought about, but what is
going on around you can have an impact. When our groups would share
when and where they did their readings, I noticed that people tended to
have a pattern. Personally, I constantly noted that I was in my quiet
room with a cup of coffee, or in a cafe somewhere with plenty of white
noise in the background. This was because it helped me get into the
readings and enjoy it more. Everyone has different places and times and
I realized that they most likely had completely different experiences than
me.
