Childexploitationisoneofthemajorproblem inBangladesh.Forvarious
reasons,childreninBangladesharevictimsofexploitation.Amongthese,
themaincausesarepoverty,lackofeducation,demographic,andchild
marriage.
Becauseofpoverty,parentssendtheirchildrentowork,whichleadsto
childlabor.Itislargelyacknowledgedasthemostcommoncauseofchild
labor.InternationalorganizationssuchastheILOandtheUnitedNations
areworkingtominimizechildlaborthroughpovertyreductionmeasures,
whichsupportsthelinkbetweenpovertyandchildlabor.
Childlabourworkatseveralfieldssuchasagriculture,fishprocessing,
shoeproduction,poultrybreeding,leatherindustries,smallfactories,shop,
garmentsaswellashome.Childrenalsoinvolvedatbrickfield,jute
processing,soap production,candles production,ship breaking,salt
processing,etc.
InBangladesh,morethan4.7millionchildrenareworkingaschildlaborsin
variousfields.Manyfeelcompelledtowork.Theyarecompelledtolaborin
ordertosupporttheirfamilies.Insomecircumstances,childrenareforced
toworkforalivingbecausetheirrelativeshaveabandonedthem orare
unabletoprovideforthem.
Accordingtoseveralresearch,childrenfromimpoverishedhomesaremore
inclinedtoworkbecausetheycontributetothefamily'soverallrevenue.
Thisisduetothefactthatmorethan30%ofBangladesh'spopulationis
currentlylivingbelowtheinternationalpovertylevel.Childrenwhoworkas
childlaborersmakeup83percentofthoseemployedinruralareasand17
percentinurbanareas.
Becauseoftheirpoverty,thesechildrendonotreceiveafairwagefortheir
labor.Becausetheyareunabletoexpressthemselvesemphatically,the
bossthreatenstodismissthem iftheydiscusslaborworth.Asaresult,
theyaresubjectedtotheowner'sexploitation.
